Last weekend of July I say goodbye to the farm that hosted me for almost a month, for lovely Carles who hosted me and my friends from time to time and start moving from Tromso to Kilpisjarvi and further down to Enontekio (Lapland, Finnland). From here, I hitch-hike and then walk, didn’t know really where, just knew Hetta Husky farm (the one I’m supposed to volunteer at) is somewhere on one of the roads. Mosquitoes and midges were much worse in here than in Norway, so I just kept moving till finally got to the farm. As the previous one, this farm was huge as well the main difference was that it’s based on huskies- 160 of them. Also expected me to be a strong Scottish man, people should definitely read my profile instead of guessing ... read more

Don’t know why, but all the places I volunteered at (see blog entry under “Lapland” also) during July expected strong European (I stress European, as nobody thought I’m Lithuanian) boy to arrive and help them with different tasks. And instead of this they got blond Lithuanian girl. However, I was sure I will prove that most of Lithuanian girls could carry tasks as good as any European man. Anyway, not to make another feministic story, I will just start telling about my experience living and working in Nordre Hestnes Gard (organic farm) in Norvegian Arctic. Firstly it wasn’t arctic at all, as the temperature kept around 25 degree almost every day –perfect for days off to enjoy arctic water, hiking and other activities provided by the farm. However, not so good working outside 7 hours a ... read more

Ahh the biggest town in the North of Norway. Not too much happening, but it has a soul and amazing nature around. Yes, nature probably is what makes this town popular among tourists and attractive place to live in. So luckily I had a really good friend here - Carles who was able to host me for couple of days (with a possibility to stay longer as a housekeeper and dinner maker). And what I believe my job was to come here and prove him, that Tromso is wonderful place to live in (well, so far, for me it is). I think it worked well vice versa. I'm still amazed by the view you get every morning you go out- the island is surrounded by mountains and the ocean. So in couple of days I managed ... read more

Hello, I'm not one of those creative writers and I'm not even the one who would read blogs. Even though I'm the one who can just bulletpoint things out, my friends adviced me to start with this. Thus I created this blog more to keep people who I know updated and not repeat the same story everytime people ask me "So how is your trip going on?" But feel free to check if you find anything interesting. So I started to plan the trip just three weeks ago and till know I just know how to get to the supposed start point - Tromso, the north part of Europe. Everything else will clear up on the way. I hope... First day was spent efficiently: Glasgow -> Edinburgh (flight, and I hate this so much, but promised ... read more
