We are home at last. And at peace. I hope you have enjoyed our trip. We did. Now it is 35 years later and Patty and Dianne will summarize for you what they remember so well about this trip. That's it for Nell and Yours Truly. Love you all, Lamar. Patty's comments: First, I want to thank our brother, Tommy, for assisting us on this project. It was a labor of love. It has been fun looking back at this wonderful trip we made with Mother and Daddy 35 years ago . . It was one of the most enjoyable things I've ever done. Day 22 Friday Patricia Dorsey Murphy 4 Oct 74 Paris Leaving early for airport and home!!! New York at 1:00 good flight..good to be home Dianne Dorsey Parker Gilbreath Place: Paris & New York Weather: cool & clear Left the hotel early for the airport. Still a little cold. Said goodbye to Paris. Finally got cleared through Airport with passport, etc. and boarded another 747. Wasn’t crowded this time. Took off about 10 AM Paris time. Was a very good flight and meals were good. Arrived in New York about 1:00 pm (our time). Got through customs, etc., and then had to wait until 4:30 PM for flight home. We waited in Kennedy A/P with Karen & Pat from Florida. (Very nice nurses). The plane home seemed slow, but finally made it and was so happy ... read more

Day 21 Thursday Patricia Dorsey Murphy Paris Rainy cold Took a tour all around city. In the afternoon Di and I went to the Louvre. Saw the Mona Lisa, Venus Di Milo, Winged Victory..many great paintings. Went to a place called the New Eve for a show and Eve for another show. .got back about 12. Dianne Dorsey Parker Gilbreath Place: Paris, France Weather: cold Went on a tour this morning and saw Napoleon’s Tomb, Arc of Triumph and Eiffel Tower. Also saw Notre Dame and the Louvre. Saw the Mona Lisa and Venus de Milo. The Louvre was fabulous!! Got on the subway to the hotel and got a little lost but with help, finally made it. Day 20 Wednesday Patricia Dorsey Murphy Paris Overcast I got sick today and went to bed early. We went on a night tour but it was too rainy and cold to see anything. Dianne Dorsey Parker Gilbreath Place: Paris, France Weather: cold & rainy Headed for Paris this AM. It rained and was cold when we arrived there. Day 19 Tuesday Patricia Dorsey Murphy Lyon Cold Left Nice early. Ate lunch in a Fed Bldg in Avignon. Froze to death. Arrived in Lyon about 6 and ate at 7:30. First of our lodgings like a motel . Stayed in our room and talked. Lyon industrial center Dianne Dorsey Parker Gilbreath Place: Lyon, France Weather: cold Left Nice early and had a long ride to Lyon. We stopped for lunch in Avignon and almost froze to death. Patty and I found a government bldg. to keep warm and eat. It was crazy & we drank another bottle of vino. Day 18 Monday Patricia Dorsey Murphy Nice Cool nice Leisurely day. Ate a decent breakfast for the first time on the tour. Went to the beach and talked to a bum from England. Bought a loaf of French bread, some very good cheese and some Heineken beer for lunch tomorrow. Dianne Dorsey Parker Gilbreath Place: Nice, France Weather: clear - warm (breezy) Nice hotel and on the first floor. (Hooray) Woke late and had an omelet for breakfast. After breakfast, went shopping. Went to eighth floor of the hotel to the pool and laid out. It was great. I love it here! After lunch, walked to ocean and waded in the Mediterranean Sea. Sat on pebbles on beach and talked with a bum. He wanted us to give him a cigarette and money. He was awful. ... read more

Day 17 Sunday Patricia Dorsey Murphy Nice Left Pisa and went to the Leaning Tower, etc. Stopped in Genoa for lunch. Saw Christopher Columbus birthplace. Drove on a very scenic drive to Nice. Arr. about 6 had dinner and walked to beach. Watched TV awhile. Dianne stayed up. 126 tunnels between Pisa and Nice. Dianne Dorsey Parker Gilbreath Place: Nice, France Weather: clear - warm Left Pisa and went to Leaning Tower & Baptistery. Patty and I climbed to the top. It was very narrow and slanted but well worth it. Left Pisa and drove to France. Changed money right before coming into France. Went to Morocco and visited the Place where Grace Kelly lives. Saw Tony Curtis standing on corner. WOW! The French Rivera is fantastic!! Weather is so nice and palm trees everywhere. ... read more

Day 16 Saturday Patricia Dorsey Murphy Pisa Italy & Nice, France Went to Pompeii first thing in the morning and walked with the Italian guide. Went to a cameo factory and headed off. Stayed in a crummy hotel …Shared bath with Mother and Daddy Dianne Dorsey Parker Gilbreath Place: Pisa, Italy Weather: good - clear Left Sorrento early in AM and headed to Pompeii. This was unbelievable - Beautiful city that was completely covered by eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D. Went to Cameo Factory at foot of mountain where cameos are made. Then had a very long drive on to Pisa. The country was beautiful. The Appies Mountains were beautiful with Mediterranean Sea on other side and mountains on other. When we arrived in Pisa, we had the loudest hotel so far. Boy! Shared ... read more

Day 15 Friday Patricia Dorsey Murphy 27 Sept 74 Sorrento, Italy Nice Drove from Rome to Naples. Traffic rotten. Got on a hydrofoil to Capri. Rode on a wild bus up to Annacapri and looked at the beautiful sight. Quite a place. Made one shot of the sea. Took a steamer back to Sorrento and staying in the Grand Rivera. Nice hotel. Ate dinner and went to town for a couple of hours..bought an inlaid box and ring. Leave for Pompeii and Pisa tomorrow. Dianne Dorsey Parker Gilbreath Place: Naples & Sorrento, Italy Weather: good - warm & clear Left Rome early and arrived in Naples about noon. Traffic is crazy here and always backed up. Day 14 Thursday Patricia Dorsey Murphy Rome Nice cool We went to a "hot springs" restaurant to have dinner, Very nice. Baths of Caracals. Then after we went to the Roman Forum and the Pantheon and other ruins. Had my hair done...nice Dianne Dorsey Parker Gilbreath Place: Rome, Italy Weather: good - clear This was free day. It started with Patty & Mother going to a beauty parlor & Daddy and I headed downtown on the bus. Got down there fine. Went to Obelisk (oldest statue in Rome from Egypt 1st century). Met Mother & Patty & went to ruins and walked all over town. It was nice. Our last night in Roma was spent at a famous Opera House. Ate and drank a lot of wine while singers sang.
