Oh wow! I do admire your trip across Brazil! I had the same plan, ending with the sand but it has yet to come to fruition. Sounds tolerable. And you'll have to let me know why I need a plastic colander. Intriguing!
Brazil Hi Ake, Yes it was a photogenic few days. We still have so much of Brazil to see. Our last visit back in 2006 took us to Rio, Iguazu and Ilha Grande - all amazing. Looking forward to some of the centre, but, currently, Asia calls once again. Have a great trip. A&A.
People are strange, we certainly are! Loved your blogs all the way through Guatemala to Panama. Thanks so much for taking us along with you. Felt like I was just there. I enjoyed some of your commentary including the quip "I think you're confusing angels and ninja turtles". So who is the amazing photographer?! Those pictures are something else. You two definitely do travel right.
Colombia Another brilliant collage full of aromas and visual exhalation. I have posted some of your pics in TB's "Streetscapes", "Strange Geology", Faces in Places", "Wall Art or Graffiti" and "Cathedrals, grand churches, mosques & places of worship" threads in the Photography Forum...but what about the Birds you say!
Colombia Have to admit that every time there was a close-up opportunity (particularly the insects) we thought of you. Our cheapo camera (that struggles so much in diminished light and with moving images) seems to be trying its damndest to make up for its failings if you flick it onto macro...
My God is greater than yours When I was travelling Peru, Bolivia & Nthn Chile that led to my blog "The Cult of Pachamama...Catholicism Unplugged" I was blown away by the Catholic Church displaying its power & wealth to seek observance & adoration of the indigenous/local peoples. This image of yours conveys it perfectly...the magnificent Medellin Cathedral with a background of the simple crammed dwellings of the populous. Brilliant.
Yeah.... we spotted the church on our way out of town and deliberately got off the train in an attempt to nab it on our way back... It does exude a strange luminosity.
Blogs as long as your arm.... Hi Bob, Yes, I remember you mentioning (a number of months ago) your paused labouring through my Japanese ramble. Bless you for finishing it - you must be one of the few. We've really enjoyed our latin American months but I cannot lie: we're itching to get back to Asia - particularly China and the 'Stans, but first..... yet more India. Happy travels, A&A.
What a beauty. Sometimes one has to click on enlarge...and then say WOW. Sensational pic looking in and looking out. This is the sort of pic that wins photo comps...hang onto this one!!!
The one that got away We sadly missed out on Misol-Ha and Agua Azul waterfalls due to dicey sounding Zapatista activity in the surrounding area at the time :( Been loving your Mexican adventures, and travelling vicariously to the parts we haven't been to (yet). Safe onward travels :)
Amazing street art!! Your blog content made my laugh out loud. I swear sometimes I’d rather do this than drovel on about my travels. It’s like a gallery. You’ve captured each town, bravo! Enjoy Guatemala can’t wait to hear the A&A take on it.
My eyes, my eyes! You seem relatively calm about the stolen shoes! Or has the sting reduced with time? We leave our walking shoes outside all the time... but I'm sure your story will run through my mind whenever we do it from now on. So Zipolite lived up to it's reputation then? I'm certainly not a prude, but jeez, copping an eyeful of dangly bits every time we step outside isn't my idea of a relaxing beach escape :)
Hmmmmm. Yeah, the boots...... no use crying over..... replacement (Mexican) boots cost $45 (two pairs) - my bunion is going to suffer.... Re the dangly bits: fortunately we're both medically trained... and short-sighted... Just back from La Paz and a swim with some whale sharks. Onwards tomorrow to San Christobal. Still loving Mexico! A&A.
