Afternoon Tea I think I have already sent a message but if I failed in my attempt, I just said that John looks completely at home at the Langham....he adds to the ambience ( I spelled it incorrectly in the previous attempt anyway!!) and they should hire him!
Gorgeous decadence.
Reckon that the veggies in Pic 5 are all Brassicas with the curly leaved ones being green and purple varieties of Kale (B. Oleracea). Nice to see your photos of the Secret Garden - we didn't get there even though it was on the "to do" list. We stayed in Boscastle while in Cornwall.
No pies! Glad you mentioned that! We were so hopeful of finding some Boscastle pies in Boscastle, but no...not a pie in sight (we checked!). In Cornwall, however, it seems like the pasties are "pie replacements"! I've had a chicken pasty and a beef and stilton pastie as well as the usual beef and veg so far. What's more, the beef is in big chunks of real beef - not minced mystery meat as is so often the case in Aussie pasties! Needless to say, we love the Cornish pasties!!!! :)
sausage! Can't believe you are not eating the sausages either! We definitely give them a miss here in the US! They are like something you've probably not seen unless you eat at McDonalds or burger king! All good here in Burlington, Vermont...xxxxxx
Ooops whoops should have typed in this box.......don't know how much you actually received as I typed the whole lot in the title box!
Anyway, we are excited too now.....travel authorisation came through yesterday......one more day of school!

Modigliani's grave I love how the tribute's on Modigliani's grave even look arty - pared down, not too gaudy, etc. Here's a theory on the Metro tickets that I found somewhere that might be a link to the extreme poverty that Modigliani experienced in life:
"..... Satre had, at one time, supported the Maoists movement in Paris when they protested a big hike in the price of Metro tickets. There was a popular protest, acted out by buying metro tickets and giving them to the less fortunate who could not afford to buy them themselves."
Those Metro tickets Thanks heaps Melanie. We haven't seen Jean-Paul Satre's grave yet - it's in Montparnasse Cemetary but we hope to visit it next time! I've now had a bit of a look around too and found a photo of Modigliani's grave (on Wikipedia) that shows plenty of tributes, but none are Metro tickets. Perhaps these things go through phases?
Oxford - Magdalen College Wow! I had no idea about "Addison's Walk" at Magdalen College, but I thought the campus was absolutely beautiful! I think that out of all the places I've visited in Oxford so far this is my favorite! You can't help but feel inspired about what has gone on inside of these walls for centuries AND the story continues to be written each day! Loved it!
finland I liked your blog abouth my country.Somehow it was very funny. For us the snow is so normal element.Abouth 35 years a go we had two australian friens living tree weeks in our home in february. They had never seen snow before. We went to the countryside ,becourse that year we had no snow in Helsinki. They were so happy to walk on the frozen lake ,that bouth send cards home with title: We are like Jesus. We walk on the water.I my self would like more to walk on your beatyful surfs (need a board ofcourse) or in the bushis.
Greetings from Bangkok. After much muckng about I was finally able to reach your blog.
Read the Paris and Berlin entries ..... I really enjoyed Berlin ... shame you had so little time.
PALACES ALL THE WHILE! I can't believe the places you have found to stay in! They sound and look like they are 5 star, to my mind! I think we may need help for our next trip! It's the consistency that is surprising me I think. We've had some amazing places, but then the odd second rate dive as well (despite the 'ratings' and the photos carefully provided on the site).
THE BED!!!! I cannot believe your accommodation! It looks a million dollars! Hope the bed was comfy as well as gorgeous....long legged variety woudl definitely have to sleep in the middle or diagonally.....lucky you two are so compatible!! Please bring back the to-die-for scarlet love seat/chaise/sofa.....any name will do!!
Are you coming to London? Hi John
I loved Bruges and bet you are.
Didn't know you were in Europe. Any plans to visit the UK? It would be fun to catch up!
Regards
Peter
Your trip Hi Good to see and read about your travels. Am struggling with this technology. Marvellous photos. Learning about all the history. Hope it warms up for you. Looking forward to the next edition. Cheers. Kath and Sally
palaces Marvellous thing to be able to knock up an extra palace at the other end of your estate... (let me see, that would be the pool-pump-shed at our place). I am surprised that you are finding time to blog at all with all of the visiting and experiencing and soaking up the atmosphere you are doing ;-) ! Hope you had a marvellous birthday, John - I'm sure it will be one of your most memorable!
