Nov 8. Baltimore, MD to Salomon I, MD We left Henderson Warf Municipal marina in Baltimore, MD at 0700 right after sunrise. We wanted to get to Norfolk, VA before the next low pressure system gets to the area next Saturday. Once in Norfolk, VA we can continue our journey protected from the weather by the ICW. At 0725 we were going under “Francis Scott Key Bridge” heading 151˚. An hour later we passed by the actual “Seven Foot Knoll” that replaced the original that was moved to Baltimore’s Waterfront. At 0859 we went by “Baltimore”. And at 0922 by “Sandy Pt” right before getting to “William P Lane Jr. Memorial Bridge”. At 1010 we went by “Thomas Pt Shoal”. Nothing interesting really happened besides the fact that a tug pushing a barge of dirt run ... read more

Nov 7. Baltimore,MD Vitto had a busy day addressing all the damages caused to the boat by running it under the conditions that we did yesterday. The entire city of Baltimore is a Maritime Museum. It used to be a main ship maker in the past. The visitors can feel the history in the air. It is not a touristy port like Annapolis and that makes it much more interesting. It is historic and interesting. The maritime museum city has many faces. There are regular museums in every block of the waterfront but also there is a fleet of different types of ships that have been donated to the city by different entities to be converted into maritime self learning schools and interactive museums. All ships of the fleet are in pristine condition and open to ... read more

Nov 6. Chesapeake City, MD to Baltimore,MDNov 6. Chesapeake City, MD to Baltimore,MD 0633. Overcast this morning. Grey skies and light rain. At 0830 we hauled anchor and left Chesapeake City, MD. We continue on the last miles of the 23 nm long C&D canal. The generator was overheating so at 1030 we anchored on the side of the canal at 39 27.26N 75 58.51 to check it. Once anchored it ran with no problem. Vitto made his usual nice breakfast eggs, bacon, toasts with jelly and a hot cup of tea. It was great to have power again. This breakfast gave us the energy to get through the rest of the day that was about to come. At 1104 we were going around Turkey LT and at 1122 we were out of the C&D canal ... read more

Nov 5. Cape May, NJ to Chesapeake City, MD We hauled up the anchor at 0830. At 1012 we were leaving the fuel dock. We put 189.2 gallons of diesel at 2.99 a gallon. We burned about 20 gallons per hour yesterday. At 1017 we entered Cape May Canal which is about 8nm long. At 1107 we entered Delaware Bay which is one of Ximena’s favorites sites of the journey. The horns located in place of the red markers are pieces of maritime art. We were running at 7.5 knots average so she got time to take incredible pictures of five of them: At 1212 Fourteen FT Bank. At 1236 Miah Maull Shoal. At 1304 Abandon LH (Ruins) At 1321 Elbow of Cross Ledge At 1335 Ship John Shoal. We saw a couple of big cargo ... read more

Nov 4. Atlantic Highlands Municipal Harbor, NJ to Cape May, NJ Weather forecast announced 10 to 15 kts winds from the NW. And Seas 3 to 5 ft. This last information worried us a little bit so we got up at sunrise and took a ride to the beach to look at the surf. It looked pretty flat so we decided to take the opportunity and leave to Cape May. There is a low pressure system moving north and today was our only window to make to Cape May, NJ. We left Atlantic Highlands Harbor at 0745 cruised south around Sandy Hook along the New Jersey coast. At 0850 we spotted a beautiful sailing schooner. About 1351 we were going by Atlantic City, NJ and the swells started getting bigger and bigger. At 1525 when ... read more

Nov 3. Atlantic Highlands Municipal Harbor, NJ We are still in NJ protected by the Sandy Hook and watching Noel. Vitto doubled up on the lines. He adjusted the fenders as the winds were getting stronger. We felt Noel’s outer edge stronger winds in the afternoon, the waves were going over the breaker that protects the marina. The sailboats moored outside the marina were swinging back and forward. We thought one of them was going to break loose. Fortunately the hurricane gusts weren’t accompanied by any rain. So it didn’t feel so bad. Ximena got out of the boat for a photo walk and did laundry. After supper she ran to the movies to watch “into the wild”. Vitto did more maintenance on the boat. more pics ... read more

Nov 2. Atlantic Highlands Municipal Harbor, NJ We continued monitoring marine weather forecasts. The winds were getting stronger and we had little information about the type of mooring we were made up on. We decided to move. At 1030 we dropped the mooring lines and maneuvered through the mooring field towards Atlantic Municipal Harbor, NJ. We had 20 kts gusts winds pushing us on our starboard side. We pulled up at the fuel dock and put in 209 gal to fill up the tank. Diesel is at 2.99 a gallon up here. Shortly after that we moved to a finger slip. For tonight after midnight, the marine forecast announces winds 20 to 25 kts from the NW with gusts up to 40 kts and waves from to 2 to 4 ft. For tomorrow Saturday, the marine ... read more

Oct 31. Oyster Bay, NY to Atlantic Highlands, NJ East River Leg. At 1341 we got underway again and went under Throngs Neck Bridge which marks the entrance to the East River. At 1350 we went under Bronx Whitestone Bridge and got closer to NYC skyline. At 1403 we were at the anchorage channel which was pretty slow and just a few boats this time of the year and shortly after we were going under two world famous magnificent bridges: Manhattan Bridge. And Brooklyn Bridge. At 1421 we were going under a third magnificent bridge: The Verrazano. At 1706 we picked up speen because we didn’t want to run out of day light, turned to 274º cut from West Bank to Old Orchard Shoal.
