We wanted to get out of town and organized a last minute get away to one of my favorite spots in the planet. The Fresh Water Florida Springs. I announced a post on FB that we were going to be shooting in different locations if anyone wanted to show up to come an join us. It was hard for most people to pull it together last minute but I wanted to give my models the opportunity to at least try to make it. The post is below. Like any other last minute get-aways we didn't really check on weather and we only did when we were already on the road. Ha. rain was coming for saturday. Oh well lets get there...as long as there wasn't any lighting we could still shoot. We loaded the truck on ... read more

Steve left yesterday to Bonaire for a last minute diving trip. My dad was in town and we had a late night. I forced myself to wake up and go diving. I had trouble getting out of bed and getting out of the house on time. Luckily I found parking space just in front of the playground. I went in the water with no plan just to relax and to tke a photo of whatever…. I run into Judy and Diane and since they knew Steve was out of town and I was alone they invited my to join them. I’m glad they did because they showed me my favorite subject of today’s dive! Thanx girlz!!. On my own, I found a very uncooperative black sponge bob and showed it to Judy. But I think they ... read more

I disconnected my strobes and replaced them by sola lights. I put a plug on my housing and connected a tripod. The day was beautiful. I headed in and the viz was pretty good and it didn’t feel as cold as the day before. I looked for the subjects that we have been finding lately but I saw none of them. After a while I located a white spotted octo but very skittish and it would take a long time to get out of its home and it would go back in if I got close. I gave up on him beca... read more

Click below to watch the video: http://youtu.be/exxVjz5Ssds All week I had been thinking about super macro video. I practiced dslr video settings shooting birds during the week I thought I was pretty mush ready to take the camera underwater. All I needed was to remember the tripod and an extra sola light. But ooops I got distracted in other proyects and I didn’t load my truck and forgot half of my gear. Once again my scuba shop hooked me up and saved my dive. My plan was to find any subject and get it sharp and with good lighting on video. So I split from the group and started in the algie area in front of the playground. Nothing there but when I was moving on I found a very curious Orange Pipefish hiding in the ... read more

Today was a holiday Monday. Once again the visibility was amazing and since it has been a while that I don’t dive under the bridge I decided to go check out some of my old spots. The visibility was so good that we could see from one sector of pilings to the other one. We don't get those conditions very often. As soon as we went around the pilings Steve gave me the “mating” signals so I stopped and dropped but I couldn’t see anything. I asked him to show me because I couldn’t see whatever he was looking at. He showed me a couple of blennies inside the pilings. One of the blennies turns real orange and colorful while the other one turns darker and spotty. It seems to me that he bites her (him) ... read more

I didn’t really looked at the tide tables and I got to the bridge pretty late. Even thought the ambient temperature was cold, the water looked pretty clear and since good conditions have been rare at the bridge lately I decided to brave the cold and go for a dive. I am still in a Costasiellas mode but someone that I didn’t know with a video camera was searching the spot so I decided to go elsewhere. I immediately saw a green touzema shrimp and I market with my stick but I took my eyes off it to change the f-stop and BAM! I never found it again. That would have been the find of the day : (. Then, I ended up in the pipes area and checked out on my neon green mantis shrimp ... read more

Since the viz was so good the day before I encouraged Steve to dive on a cold day. We prepared the jugs of hot water and off we went. Our plan was to look for Costasiellas but they are in a pretty busy area where the sand gets stired out a lot. I saw Deb’s flag as I was getting in and as she saw me she jumped out of the water super exited. She showed me a very pregnant pipefish. The eggs are inside a pouch on the belly and far from the face and very difficult to make it look artistic so I just snaped a proof of life shot. We saw it starting contractions and curling and twisting to the side. I don’t know why but I didn’t think about filming it. I ... read more

I had to go get the material to start my Divemaster training and I decided to get all my gear ready and check out the conditions at the bridge. If it was fine I was going in. I run into Sandra when I got there and we walked over the bridge to look at the water from there. It actually looked ok. We decided to join forces and go in together to look for the pipe horses since they are actually really hard to find. I swam on the surface to the spot and dropped from there. Sandra followed. I landed right on the spot next to the male pipehorse. I was so exited. I signaled Sandra to shoot it while I look for the female so each of us could have one. Instead I found ... read more

Last night had been announced to be the coldest night of the year: 50 degrees. Maximum temperature during the day: 62 degrees. How cold could the water be? I went outside and it was not windy. I set up my camera but I had some trouble with the primary strobe. It would fire but the image would come out dark even opening the aperture. I changed cords, 3 batteries and the strobe. Finally I noticed that it was position between full and ttl. Changed it and bam it worked. I looked at the watch and I could still be on time. I loaded my truck up and decided to go and get a feel for it and decide to dive or not at the location. I figure I wont do a long dive just like an ... read more
