relieved to hear from you Brian, You're such a vivid writer! Grateful to hear from you. I've been wondering why we had not had a post from you, and now I understand. Sounds like your life is expanding, and you continue to learn. Can't wait to see pix! Brenda
Dancing and music! I think of you when I hear that song too :o) And I am very thankful that you are learning how to dance because then you can teach me and we will not look so much like gringo/obrunis anymore! Hahaha! xoxo
from the home front Sounds like you are covering a lot of ground and seeing some amazing sites. (Hope you brought your money belt along to ward off sticky fingers and charming imps.) We're all enjoying your romps from our armchairs here in Tucson. Can't wait to see your pictures and hear more adventures. Be safe. Have fun. (How's your Spanish fluency coming along?) Love, Mom
following with fascination B, so happy to know you've arrived safely, and to hear the citizens
response to crime and also the incredible, minimal costs. I'll be following your trip and am grateful to hear from you.
Love to you,
Brenda
Beautiful photos Although I was aware that this country exists I would have never guessed its versatile beauties. Excellent photos - loved the ones from Zanzibar and Ngorongoro.
Congrats... ...on your good grades! Thanks for keeping me updated on your travels. I'm glad you've kept yourself safe! Have fun in your last 2 weeks! Love, Mairin
La Cucaracha That cockroach on the wall just may be one of us following you on your adventures! It is mind boggling, no matter where you go, this rise and fall of finance and power, and the ever-present poor who just want to be a little better off. I'm reading "Snow" by Orhan Pamuk, which is doing nothing to assuage my anxiety. Have you heard anything of the MagaMarch in Oaxaca?? Wondering how far this news is traveling. Itching to see your new images. J'espere que tout vas bien.
Hank
Scary Your travels are so very interesting but I can't help but worry. All those checkpoints remind me of the Federalies on the way to El Gulfo. Take care and and keep safe.
My head spins! Hola Brian! Reading your blog is like being in two places at once - I"m feeling slightly dazed! Amazing shots of the fetish market, all the more stunning since here in Oaxaca de Juarez everyone is gearing up for "los dias de Muertos" with lots of altars and skeletons, but all are fabricated, usually from the simplest of materials. And quite colorful. I think that you're right - when wanderlust bites, you have to go! Buena suerte y que le vaya bien. Happy trails. Hank
Good for you... Brian, I applaud you for volunteering at the orphanage. I cried when I read about the child who gave you the book. That is so sweet! I'm not so sure about eating kitties, though. Marlowe and Gandalf might have something to say about that... Did it taste like chicken? :-)
Great pictures of the voodoo market.
Yuk! Cat... Really macabre! Fascinating sights, but I don't think I could've tried the cat...you are brave! What a sweet story about the little boy who wanted to give you his origami book. I'm so proud of you for volunteering to help at the orphanage! Very expansive times and many new sights...I'm amazed! Can't wait to see more pictures, especially of the children--Peace, B--
mud blanket? I'm trying to figure out what a mud blanket is. But otherwise, I love your postings. It's fascinating to hear how people live in other parts of the world. It really puts things here in perspective! Even if you don't have photos, you paint pictures with words!
Wow That sounds amazing Brian. I am jealous. I will have to hear you speak Twi when you get back. I am interested as to how it sounds. Keep exploring and keeping us informed so we can live vicariously through you as you explore a completely different part of the world.
9/12/06 Thanks for the B'day call, B. This is the first time we've been able to get the comments section of your blog to open for us. Looking forward to your field trip pics. I goofed; Mom's work ext. is 218. Enjoy the field trip. Love, Pop.
Sounds amazing This all sounds so amazing. Sorry I haven't left any comments yet, I have been really busy. I hope the rest of the semester is amazing as it has been so far. Miss ya buddy. Have fun and be safe.
what a delight! Dear Brian,
First, thank you for remembering your Dad's birthday. That must have made him feel very special! I was teary-eyed reading your astonishing account of your experiences. You describe everything so vividly--I can just picture it. I'm very happy that you are taking advantage of this opportunity. (And to realize our common humanity and all of the good people in the world!) xoxoxo, Love to you, Brenda
bedbug treatment Went to WebMD and it said that you identify bedbug bites by 3 bites in a row or bites that usually are around the head and neck. It said flea bites are usually on the legs. Treat with camphor, menthol or corticosteroids. Hope you can avoid these bad bugs in the future-- Peace and love, Brenda
What an excursion! Sounds so awesome. Can't wait to see those photos, especially the golden lake. What a wonderful opportunity! Hope the bedbug bites don't bother you too long--
The trials, trails, and short tales of my journeys through Africa, South America, and Europe. Disfruta.
