After months of research McKay and I finally decided on the PINTA GOLD cruise for our Halong Bay trip... it is a hard area to research/make a decision on and we decided after one too many horror stories that we would go with a company that had rave reviews on Trip Advisor... only to be disappointed by the whole experience... We woke up bright and early for our trip and as I lay in bed waking up I could hear McKay in the bathroom... (in an American accent which made it even funnier)... Oh my god... OH my god... OH MY GOD! I started to get worried and yelled out "whats going on" ... she says "there is a spiiiiiider in here" ... I picked up the phone and the conversation goes: "Hello" "Ummmm we have ... read more

The beginning of our trip to Vietnam has been an adventure and a half.. we definitely hit the ground running! It started at the airport when I realised that McKay and I didn’t really have a set plan on how to find each other once in Hanoi.. there were some random suggestions to meet at the baggage carousel but after realising that there were two individual areas I had to go to Plan B - nothing but hope!! After thinking about it for awhile I decided to head to Gate B and just take my chances… McKays plane was due in about half an hour after mine… I was starting to get worried but 45 minutes after her plane landed she walked through the exit and I breathed a sigh of relief! We had a driver ... read more

Goodbye Australia Soooo I left Narelle in Brisbane and set off for the Gold Coast to stay with Dan and Shannon before flying out the next morning.. Shannon picked me up from the train station and we just chilled at home until Dan came home and cooked us dinner! Mmmmm thanks Dan!! I tried to make a 5th night drinking but was struggling so let Dan polish off all the wine instead! An early night was had, as I had to be up by 5.30am to get to the airport for my early flight.. I was pretty nervous about flying long haul with Air Asia after my last flight, but was completely impressed by the whole experience... Air Asia Rocks I seriously cannot recommend Air Asia for long haul flights between Australia and South East ... read more

After a hectic couple of weeks leading up to my adventure I said a bit of a teary goodbye to my son at the airport and walked down the ramp of death... everyone knows by now that I have an insane fear of flying and this flight was no different.. reaching the plane I did my flying ritual of kissing my hand, transferring the kiss to the outside of the plane and giving her a bit of a pat! Weird yes but it would look even more stupid if I actually bought lips to plane! As I entered the plane I was pleasantly surprised to see a masculine looking male flight attendant who was HOT... His name was Murray and he provided some eye candy for the flight! Good start... I was seated in Seat E ... read more

“Traveling is a brutality. It forces you to trust strangers and to lose sight of all that familiar comfort of home and friends. You are constantly off balance. Nothing is yours except the essential things - air, sleep, dreams, the sea, the sky - all things tending towards the eternal or what we imagine of it.” - Cesare Pavese Here I go again.... time to set off on another Reety journey... sitting here trying to write the initial itinerary blog finding it hard to decide what to write, I lose myself in thought thinking about why I travel... I travel to learn and grow... to challenge myself... stretch my limits... and simply to foster an appreciation of both the world at large and the home I have waiting back here in Adelaide... I arrived in Surat Thani from Phuket on the bus the day before Nok's wedding. Nok and I met back in 2006 when I used her as a tour guide in Bangkok... we hit it off, became close friends and have stayed in contact ever since... In 2006 I also used another guide, Tong who has featured in several of my blogs.. again we became fast friends and have remained in contact ever since... I introduced Tong and Nok to each other after feeling that they would hit it off... and not only did they become friends.. but Nok is now employed by Tong in her tour company! I was excited to be going to the wedding, not only to help Nok celebrate, but to also spend the weekend with Tong who was traveling down from ... read more

Or is that you turn "LOBSTER" in one hour.... Bahahahahaha! No wonder another lady comes around to the beach chairs selling fresh Aloe Vera.. they must be working together! ;-) ... and so another day dawns in the Land of Smiles... Wednesday morning I had plans to meet up with Shannon for the day and hang out while Dan went and got a tattoo done. He was getting a huge tribal design over his shoulder and was going to be about 4 hours... We met about 10am and decided a day lazing on the beach was in order! In all the time I have been to Phuket/Patong I have never set foot on Patong beach... Monday morning dawned and I was up bright and early ready for a big day out sailing with Capt Mark . Mark is an ex-pat Aussie originally from Western Australia who know lives in Phuket. His tour is much raved about on the travel forums online so it was a must do on my list. I was the last person to be picked up from my hotel and discovered there would be 9 of us on the tour that day. We were driving to Ao Po Pier where we were transported to the sailing yacht via a tiny little dingy. It was hilarious! So small and me trying to get out of it into the boat with my backpack was a sight to be seen! I met the other people that were to be on the ... read more

Hello everyone Sorry its been so long between blogs.. been keeping myself super busy in Phuket and trying to find the time to write! Sooo I last left you arriving in Phuket exhausted and sick! Friday night was a quiet one and I didn't set an alarm Saturday morning. It was time for a sleep-in. Rejuvenate the soul! After rising I headed out to get some breakfast. About a 1 minute walk from the Mercure I discovered a great little cafe called Oasis. They had really really great Fruit shakes and Western Food as well as a Thai menu. I had a yummy Omlette and toast and my favourite shake - Pineapple n Lime. Afterwards I went for a wander around the OTop Markets. I called in and saw my favourite DVD man Johnny as well ... read more

The last blog left off with us walking the 4 kms to Arts River View Lodge. Once we arrived we went straight to the restaurant for breakfast.. we were both so hungry after our journey. Sitting in the open air restaurant I thought I was going to pass out.. I was so hot and looked like I had just stepped out of a shower! Damn walk!! LOL Paradise is still where I left it... After breakfast we were shown to our treehouse. Fantastic. Since I was last here in Dec 2006 they have built a few new treehouses and they are so great. We had an open aired bathroom that had a waterfall for the shower. It was cold water only so I didnt truly get to enjoy it as much as I could have but ... read more
