Hi everyone, I wasnt sure how to email all on my subscriber list so figured a small blog that I could later delete might be the best option! I have entered a competition with Gap Adventures to create an itinerary to your favourite destination that they will use in their 2011 catalogue. You also win the trip as a prize, taking along friends! Everyone that votes and lets me know will go into a hat and if I win you will be randomly drawn to come along! My entry is here: Reet's Itinerary Please please help me out! Voting ends in the next 24 hours I think.. then the top 20 will get to be voted on again! I need all my dedicated fans help right now and if you can pass on the word to ... read more

The last blog for our trip is finally here.. a month later! But I figured if I didnt do it now it would never get done, and the trip was really not complete without a final blog! Now where were we... thats right.. arriving back in Saigon from Paradise aka Phu Quoc. Arriving back in Saigon we suddenly realised how close to the end we were, and considering that the following day was a full day tour we realised that we only had the afternoon to finish up any shopping we wanted to do.. with that in mind we quickly dumped our bags at the hotel and went across the road for one last feast at our favourite Saigon pork restaurant... after we scoffed our food we headed off to the Ben Thanh Markets. While they ... read more

I am back... sorry for the delay in blogs but as you all know I am now home... the last week was just so crazy (and relaxing) that my blogs got forgotten for awhile! After settling in, getting back to work and have unpacked (well half of my stuff) I am ready to sit down with a cup of tea and try remember everything we did! Crazy times! So we left our little hotel Bich Duyen and got a taxi to the airport... for some reason it was only $8 on the way back out (even though they had charged us $13 for the trip in) .. thought that was a little strange but the convenience factor weighs in I guess! We got to the airport, checked in and went to wait in the lounge area... ... read more

So our last blog left us packing our bags and leaving for Saigon... I was really stressing as the typhoon has passed over but had left strong winds... I kept looking out at the trees blowing around and wondering how the hell a plane was going to cope! McKay must have repeated the "they want to crash LESS than you want to crash.. think of the bad publicity" speech to me at least 20 times!! Nail-biting flight We'd arranged private transport to the airport in Danang through Mark at Hoi An Motorbike adventures. At the scheduled time, up pulled our car (most of the cheap transport has been via privately owned cars) with a driver and a man in the passenger seat...with a baby on his lap! We thought, well this is special, but loaded up ... read more

Our third day in Hoi An started with a much deserved sleep in and lazy breakfast at our new hotel... we then walked into town to do a pre-booked cooking class with Red Bridge Cooking School. The course started at Hai Cafe where we were given a free drink and were able to buy some sweet little bracelets off one of the many street vendors... from there we walked to the local market to look at the local produce, while our guide purchased some token items for our cooking class... Having done a million markets this part really wasnt that interesting until halfway through the tour I turned to realise that McKay had done a disappearing act... I didnt worry too much for about 5 minutes thinking she would catch up but as we twisted and ... read more

Its been a few days since my last blog and I have been struggling to get some downtime where I am not completely exhausted to write the blog... In Hoi An despite my best intentions I think we spent more time IN tailor shops than out of them and definitely had our shares of hits and misses.... Before leaving the train in Danang we had met a couple from Melbourne, Rose and Kurt who were on their honeymoon... as we left the train we ran into them and decided to split the costs of a taxi to Hoi An.. being the expert I am at bartering, I managed to get everyone to stick to their guns and our $18USD taxi ended up at $12USD... Once in Hoi An we checked in to Cua Dai Hotel and ... read more

At 5.30am on our 2nd last day in Hanoi, the alarm went off and we both groaned... Not the smartest idea we have had to stay out until 1am then do a sunrise tour! We stumbled downstairs grumpy as at 6am to meet our tour guide... and off we set on a walking tour... we headed to the lake where all Hanoians go in the morning to exercise.. it was a strange sight... on one side of the lake you had all these old people doing tai chi... or what were attempts at tai chi.. some were in groups but others were just standing by themselves doing really weird moves that looked more like an epileptic fit rather than tai chi! Others were walking/jogging around the lake and there was one section were all gym weights ... read more

My last blog was getting a little long so I decided to cut it into a couple of blogs. don't want to give you information overload! Romantic Spa For Two ;-) After a good shower and breakfast we caught a taxi to a day spa which the hotel had already booked for us. The day spa paid for our taxi and we were shown to a romantic massage room for two... we walked in and cracked up laughing.. the room consisted of two massage tables and a lovely combined shower/spa/steam room in the corner... we had booked a 5 hour package consisting of body salt scrub, mud wrap, aromatherapy massage, facials and foot treatment (which consisted of getting rid of dead skin, exfoliation, massage and parrafin wax).. Our massage therapists then told us BOTH to strip ... read more

Sitting on a rocking train on a 16 hour train ride to Hoi An, I thought it would be a good time to catch up to catch up on the blogging... We have left Hanoi sadly and are heading towards a typhoon in Hoi An... we were told today that it has been downgraded to a tropical storm and due to hit on the 1st Nov.. fingers crossed it stays small!! Soooo I left the last blog where we were having a rest before heading out again with our new found friends: Ria, Josh and Matt... they were due at our hotel at around 8pm and at 830pm we went downstairs to wait unsure if they would still be coming as we were all so wiped by the end of our tour earlier.. about 2 minutes ... read more

Soooo I left the last blog with us in our taxi on the way to the train station to catch the overnight train... when we arrived we were ushered through the main gates and given no real direction as to where to go.. it looked like a scene out of some scary movie.. it was like a deserted railyard with a few old trains in it and you had to walk across all the tracks to get to the train... weird.. Yet Another Overnight Train Ride We found our train and were shown to our cabin. We had booked 2 beds in a 4 berth cabin on Livitrans, and from what we could see it wasnt as luxurious as they advertise but it was clean.. we sat down on our bed, anxiously waiting to see who ... read more
