So 2011 has been an amazing year full of travel, new love, working towards goals and planning yet another holiday... The plans have changed several times over but its finally here... I dont have near enough money, but hey, thats part of the adventure.. expect to see some real budget travel along the way! Where to this time you may ask? We fly out (yes thats right WE... as in me and my wonderful gorgeous man Ben) on 9th October heading straight for 5 nights in Phuket, followed by a couple of nights in Bangkok... This is Benny's first trip to Thailand so I have lots of touristy stuff planned (some of which even I havent covered yet!) Unfortunately Benny can only stay a week due to work so he flies home and I have a ... read more

Well here it is .. the final blog from Bali ... a month or so late.. but hey better late than never!! After arriving into Legian, we checked in to our hotel - The Puri Raja. Kylee was off to find a tailor with Nat in tow and Bianca and Helen set off to find an Optometrist. I decided to use this opportunity for a quick swim. We all met up a bit later for dinner and decided to head to Mozzarella's. I had read reviews on Mozzarella's on Trip Advisor so it seemed like an easy option. Dinner was really nice with most of us opting for steaks. I had a Creme Brulee for dessert which was out of this world! The cocktails are also 2 4 1 at all times so we made the ... read more

Same Same But Different Welcome to Bali! Well.... after much inner resistance I finally decided to give in and explore a little of Bali since so many Aussies rave about the place... I have lots of mixed feelings but for now this blog is about a little piece of Heaven in Bali, Ubud, recently made famous by the book and subsequent movie: Eat, Love, Pray... I arrived in Bali just before lunchtime and was surprise to see my driver waiting already.. I had a two hour wait for Kylee to show up so was expecting to wait at the airport and the driver meet us when she turned up.. He was really lovely and explained that he would put my bags in the car and then I could either go grab something to eat or just ... read more

Well its been a few days between blogs but I've finally put some time aside before I forget everything that has happened! In the last blog we were leaving Ko Lanta and heading to Bangkok for a few days.... There were no dramas getting back to the airport (after the 5 hour bus saga getting to Koh Lanta) as Annie our Guesthouse owner arranged a ride for cheap with her driver.. He had to head to the airport for a private transfer so we got a ride.. worked out well and was much less stressful. We were both sad to leave Banana Garden Home Bungalows... they (and Annie) were fantastic.. After the drama surrounding our missed transfer, Annie upgraded us to the bigger bungalow for the original price and it was perfect. I will definitely have ... read more

*said in your best American accent ;-) Well life has been cruising along since the last blog... really there is not alot of drama or excitement to speak about with our time on Koh Lanta apart from being subjected to a large population of Europeans (French, German, Italians, Swiss etc) who are extemely rude towards not only us but to the Thai people in general... and even though they are vacationing on one of the few Thai islands that are predominantly Muslim, they still insist on acting like they are on a European beach by sunbathing (and walking around) topless (the females obviously)... This is something that has continuously annoyed me in my Thailand travels... Generally it is a huge insult and taboo (and actually ILLEGAL) in Thailand to go topless on the beaches, but even ... read more

So I have managed to tear myself away from the sunlounge on my personal slice of paradise long enough to update my little travel adventure.. I apologise in advance for the super dooper long blog... get a coffee! I woke up extra early in Kuala Lumpur so that I was able to squeeze in a breakfast at Yut Lee again (seriously its THAT good) - to get there this involved an hour round trip of walking but so worth it.. I was tired and grumpy after having been woken at 2am by the running water pipes above my head.. another night of that and I probably wouldnt be giving the guesthouse a good review.. but I do have some interesting video footage of me at 2am recording the damn pipes and the god awful running water!!! ... read more

Kuala Lumpur Has Redeemed Itself Day two dawned in Kuala Lumpur with my alarm clock of clunking water pipes above my head at 8am... For the price I am paying here RM98 (Roughly $35AUD) a night, I don't think that the place is bad value at all... there was a little bit of noise late into the night with cars and people going past my bedroom window yelling etc, but I am used to living on a main road so it didnt really bother me.. I can see if you are a light sleeper that this room may do your head in... but for me, its fine.. I was glad that the pipes woke me as I didnt have an alarm set (no electricity converter so phone etc all getting low on battery). I got ... read more

St Kilda Festival & New Travel Buddies Well I have finally landed in Kuala Lumpur after a very long 24 hours... It started at 5.30am Sunday morning, when I was up getting ready for my 7.50am flight with Jetstar.. All was going very smoothly... I got to the airport with plenty of time, grabbed a Chai Latte and was relaxing at Gate 25 waiting for boarding at 7.20am.... At just after 7am I heard them call the flight.. Jetstar to Melbourne now boarding at Gate 25... I was thinking 'wow thats a little early' but threw out the rest of my Chai and got in line... I got to the gate, they scanned my ticket and as I put one foot down the ramp they suddenly went 'ummmm excuse me but you are on the ... read more

"What you've done becomes the judge of what you're going to do - especially in other people's minds... When you're traveling, you are what you are, right there and then... People don't have your past to hold against you... There are no yesterdays on the road.." As the days count down to my next adventure, I find myself singing constantly.. whether it's humming in the car or just sitting at work with the song continuously playing in my head, the same old song loops itself in my brain.... "On the road again Just can't wait to get on the road again. The life I love is making music with my friends And I can't wait to get on the road again. Never Go Against Your Gut Feeling!! Being lazy, we left organising our journey from Koh Samui to Phuket to the last minute.. in the end we decided to do what I hate doing and buy tickets through a travel agent (this always ends in tears for me!). We were due to be picked up around 6.30am the following morning.. and according to my schedule it would go something like this... 8am departure from ferry port... bus straight to middle of Surat Thani and make 11am departure on 1st class government bus from Surat Thani.. arrival in Phuket at about 3pm at the latest... HOWEVER as usual, like any good Thailand tour company it went something like this...7am pickup from hotel.. get to the ferry port and rush to grab some breakfast... Narelle not feeling well ... read more
