We had an early start to Battambang as we were doing a day trip down there... Armed with 25kg of kids clothes for Cambodian Children's Trust, I was excited to be able to see Kai (the boy I sponsor) even if it was just for a couple of hours! The trip from Siem Reap to Battambang was a leisurely 2-3 hour taxi ride (and it was anything but leisurely!). You are literally taking your life into your own hands on Cambodian roads. We had a driver that had come from Battambang to take us down for the day and it was a hair-raising trip. There is no concept of road rules that exist in Asia! Always makes for a fun time! The airconditioner was cranking and we were freezing, so tried to get the driver to ... read more

We arrived in Siem Reap and our transfer was waiting for us... Arriving at our hotel we were gobsmacked... the hotel was BEAUTIFUL and such a bargain at $55 a night! We had booked last minute at the Tara Angkor Hotel and were so glad to have found the hotel. Our stay there was just amazing.... Even though it was early morning, they had our room ready within 10 minutes of arriving and once we had settled in the hotel room, we had a look around the hotel, before deciding to head into town for some food... We jumped in a tuk tuk and headed towards Pub Street... When we were almost there, I saw a funky little cafe on the side of the road overlooking the river so we stopped and headed back to check ... read more

My journey started leaving Mount Gambier on Friday. After advertising for someone to transport 26kg of kids clothing to Melbourne for me, I was lucky to snag a lift as well with my friend Kira and her partner Tommy. Halfway there, we pulled into a bottle shop and got some 'roadies' to pass the time. Lynn met me in Melbourne and after a mad dash for some last minute shopping, we arrived at Lynns close to 10pm. On the Saturday morning, I was due to meet with a new trainer to do a session and see if we were 'compatible'. My plan to maybe hit the figure competitor stage next year has hit a snag lately with my weight gain and inability to shift the fat. Lynn's daughter Kylee and her man were kind enough to ... read more

Up bright and early we set off on the Simba Sea Tour Sunrise Tour of Phi Phi... With rave reviews on Tripadvisor and the promise of being one step ahead of the crowds, we booked Simba for our last day in Thailand. My friend Rob and his family were also booked on the same tour so I was excited to spend some time with Rob sober and see Phi Phi Island. Having been to Thailand many times, I have always avoided the cliche "Phi Phi Island" day tour with a stop at the famous Maya Bay, made famous by Leonardo DiCaprio in the Movie "The Beach". I have heard many stories of it being overcrowded with speedboats and tourists and the chances of a photo not filled with either of them rare.. and it never really ... read more

After a good nights sleep, we had a lazy breakfast and then headed off to find another gym. We loved Maximum Fitness the day before but knowing there was a few gyms around town, we thought it would be fun to check the others out.. We ended up at Patong Gym... Wow... really old school with soooo many weights/machines packed into the room. It had airconditioning and there were lots of people working out in there.. we enjoyed it although it felt a little squashy as all the machines were really close together! After we finished we had some lunch at one of my favourite little restaurants San Sabai then made our way back to the hotel in time for a quick shower before an afternoon/night tour with Phuket Heritage Tours. I can't recommend them highly ... read more

We left Khao Sok nice and early as we had plans to get to Phuket by lunch time and head down Bangla Road for the Australian AFL Grand Final Celebrations that take place in Phuket. We were meeting my friend Rob from Melbourne and his family. Rob and I met on Trip Advisor a few years back and have stayed 'facebook' friends since, and shared a beer in Melbourne last year.... We had a private transfer to our hotel, Blue Ocean Resort in Patong and upon arrival were informed that our room wasn't ready. We had a quick deodorant under the arms/change of clothes in the lobby toilet before racing out to get to Bangla Road... Rob had messaged me to say they couldn't get in to the Aussie Bar which was full and said they ... read more

An early morning flight got us into Surat Thani where we had arranged a private transfer to Khao Sok National Park. Because we had a week in Thailand only I didn't want to waste precious time on the local buses, knowing from experience how long those journey's can take... I had arranged a 3 day tour of Khao Sok National Park with Kris at Limestone Lake Tours - my 3rd trip with her. Like I said in the previous blog, this is the one place that I had dreamt of taking the love of my life... and so it was bittersweet to be going with Ben considering that we were no longer together.... It was kind of fitting then to walk out of the airport and see the ominous black clouds.. A sign of things to ... read more

So this blog has been a long time coming... I lost the passion of writing and travel for a while, but finally feel ready to get back into the blogs.. I have another exciting trip coming up in September which I definitely want to blog about and it doesnt feel right not documenting the last trip... I missed the last entry of my epic Cambodia / Thailand trip from October 2011 but after reviewing it, decided to skip finishing it off as it was only a couple of days at the end in Phuket (which I have raved about in various blog entries!). This blog will cover the first part of my trip that started back on September 24th 2012... It was a trip that I had planned with the then 'love of my life' .. ... read more

Day Cut Short Our day started early as we caught a taxi to Angkor Wat to meet up with Cambodian Childrens Trust. I was excited as I was going to get to spend the day with Kai touring Angkor Wat followed by horseriding in the afternoon. When I woke however, my tummy was rumbling and cramping and I was feeling generally under the weather! We got out to Angkor Wat and after a few phone calls with Erin from CCT we eventually found the group. I couldnt believe when I saw Kai how grown up he had become in a year and how great he looked! As soon as I turned up he left his group of friends to hang with me. I told him he was okay to head off with the other boys ... read more

A Humbling Day in Cambodia I was up bright and early ready to head off to visit Tekea and his family for lunch when Danni phoned me to say she wouldnt be joining me as she wanted to spend the day with her new friend. Somewhat disappointed, I quickly got over it excited at the day ahead! Tekea turned up at the hotel with a spare helmet for his bike. I jumped on and off we went. It's funny how you don't even think of the danger of jumping on the back of a virtual strangers bike in a foreign country... something you would never do back at home.. but off I went without a care in the world! After about 5 minutes on the back of the bike, we hit a dirt road.. well you ... read more
