After a epic overnight train journey to the middle of the desert, we arrived in Jaisalmer. When we arrived our driver was no where to be seen. A tuk tuk driver stated he would take us and we made sure he knew we already had a room booked, but the minute we got into his tuk tuk it was the hard sell to just ‘come look at my guesthouse’. No matter how many times we told him we already had booked a room he was insistent we go with him. I phoned our guesthouse from the tuk tuk and when we arrived at the Fort a staff member was waiting for us. He gave the tuk tuk driver a full mouthful and I thought they were going to have a punchup! We arrived in Delhi after a one hour delay ready to get out and explore. We caught a taxi to our hotel and I was dismayed to see dirty sheets and no window. In hindsight, the hotel room was not that bad at all (and Tayla was desperately trying to tell me this) but for some strange reason I had a breakdown and insisted on moving hotels. Looking back, all I can think is that it was a small dose of home sickness! We went for a walk to have some lunch and see what other hotels we could find. As we were walking along the street, I suddenly became soaked with water… Two guys on a motorbike drove past and hurled a large water balloon at me bursting all over my chest! Thankfully I did ... read more

Ok so its been quite some time since I wrote a blog... and I am finally back on track and ready to start writing again.. ALOT has happened since my last blog but I will get to that in good time! We arrived in Agra to a man holding a sign with my name on it... We were staying at Aman Homestay and they had sent a driver for us. When we arrived at Aman, the family were still sleeping, but all got out of bed sleepily to greet us and make us some beautiful Chai. Once we settled into our rooms (which were really lovely) we showered then decided to head out for breakfast. The homestay arranged a tuktuk for us for the day and our driver was waiting for us. His name was Vicky ... read more

We woke up bright and early the day after my birthday and decided it wasn’t worth moving rooms again - we had originally told Shiva we were moving to Jill and Richards when they left as it was slightly nice and had an aircon, but decided we were happy settled where we were… We told Shiva on the way out. By this stage I was back to my usual Reety happy self. and Shiva promptly told me that I was really nice NOW and good looking when I was happy and smiling lol (I really had been a surly bitch). We headed down to Open Hand Cafe for breakfast only to find it was shut on Sundays so decided to find OM Cafe which was close by… we found the sign leading down an alley way ... read more

We made the long windy descent to the airport early in the morning... By the time we hit the bottom my ears were really hurting. I'd had a cold for a few days and my ears were definitively feeling the altitude difference. It got me slightly worried about our flights, especially since we had two flights to do that day to get to Varanasi. We stopped halfway for a toilet break and there was a large evil looking monkey sitting near the car. I decided to hold on until the airport. While taylor was in the toilet I got out to try snap a photo of the monkey but he quickly saw that as an invitation to come closer so I jumped back into the car. He then proceeded to jump onto the car next to ... read more

Molested In A Jeep! We arrived sleepy and clueless in New Jaiglupuri. We hadn't booked a driver to pick us up but we had heard that it was easy to find a share jeep to Darjeeling. Darjeeling is a windy uphill 3.5 hr drive away. The first guy to approach us offered 200rp per person. A complete bargain compared to the 2500rp wanted by the hotel for the same trip with a private driver. We accepted and he led us to the back of the car park to a waiting jeep. We threw our bags on and decided to go to the toilet. The jeep doesn't leave until its full and the guy promised us we would wait only "10 minutes". Taylor was a little nervous about leaving our bags there but I reassured her they'd ... read more

Food Glorious Food Our last day in Kolkata was a full day of sightseeing and eating. I woke at 6.30am and was wide awake. I must still be in Australia time which is about 5 hours ahead. At about 7.20am the man outside our door started playing his music. I heard Taylor stir and started giggling. 5 seconds later, she was awake and not amused, which made me laugh even harder! Lol We decide to try Raj's Spanish cafe for breakfast but on the way there, we got distracted by a small mobile phone shop and decided to try get sim cards for our phones. It took ages to do and he had to photocopy our passports several times as well as us having to provide a passport photo. It cost about 1300rp all up including ... read more

Welcome to the City of Joy I was up bright and early on my first official day in Kolkata.. City of joy.. I went to jump in the shower and was rudely awakened by the face I had no hot water... I almost gave up on hot water until I had a last minute lightbulb moment that it was India and therefore I should expect the unexpected... I turned the hot water tap off and a minute later low and behold, the hot water ran... Of course hot means cold and cold means hot! I then went to find Taylor who was staying in a nearby room. She had shared a room with an extremely interesting character from Israel. A 25yo hippie called Leron. Lovely girl but completely crazy! The three of us headed off to ... read more

Well it's here... My long awaited trip of a lifetime off to the land of the unexpected, the one country said to test even the most experienced traveller... India! It's a country I've wanted to travel to for a long time yet the timing has never been right... I knew to go, I needed more an a fleeting moment there, so 12 months ago I took a pay cut at work to purchase extra leave and booked 7 weeks in India... As most of you know, I'd planned to do it with a friend which fell through so after a brief panic of "I can't do this", I picked myself up and got on with the plans.. I've met some other travellers online and have plans to meet up so I won't be solo too long! ... read more

We were up bright and early to head to Phnom Penh on the local bus. We got picked up by the bus company in a mini bus and then spend then next half hour going around and around in circles as they tried to find another hotel... Eventually they couldnt find it so they took us to the bus station.. it left us wondering about the poor people that had been waiting for the bus to pick them up! lol We jumped on the bus (it was a new service between Siem Reap and Phnom Penh and for $9 you not only got a bus trip, but free wifi on the bus and water and a snack! Bargain). About 10 minutes into the journey the bus broke down on the side of the road and we ... read more
