Well after my wonderful bus trip, i decided to spend two days in Chiang Mai before getting on a mini van to Pai. I spent the couple of days just hanging around visiting places that I had been too on my last trip out here. Followed by watching both the Poland match and the Dutch match in John's place. Which I am sure both Gordon and SJ will remember well. The roof terrace is still as lovely as ever, and I introduced the place to a couple of people that I met on the bus up. Both have been to Chiang Mai on several occasions and hadn't yet found this lovely retreat. Unfortunately he closes as soon as the first game of the night is over, so rather than trawl the streets for another bar I ... read more

I booked an overnight bus to Chiang Mai. Leaving at six o'clock. So at 7.20pm the bus turns up, we duely board and get ready for a long, mainly sleepless journey up north. We spent thirty minutes getting a few hundred yards through the nightmare that is Bangkok's traffic, only for the driver to inexplicably pull over on the side of one of the flyovers and disappear for the next thirty minutes. Leaving us to sit on the bus with no option of getting out of the bus. Unless of course you wanted to play human frogger. The driver finally gets back in and off we go. The first three hours going well, and we pull over around 11.30 for what I thought would be the first of a couple of stops, especially as the driver ... read more

We had a couple of days of lovely sunshine, so I spent the first on the beach, and then on the second I visited nearby Bang Bo and afterwards went back to the beach. The beach in itself was relatively quiet, spent time just laying on the beach watching the waves, and jumping in for a dip when it got too hot. The tide comes in quite quickly, and there were two girls playing around in the surf. Unfortunately for them, before they noticed the sea had snuck up on their belongings, and there was five minutes of them frantically trying to save all of their stuff from being swept into the sea. Being the gentleman I am, I watched for a moment with a smile on my face. I got up to go and offer ... read more

To get to Koh Chang in itself was fun. It all started at 07.30 in the morning with an unexpected trip on the back of a scooter with my backpack behind me. I am not a huge fan of scooters at the best of time, and the thought of heading through Bangkok in the early morning traffic didn't fill me with confidence. Luckily the trip by scooter wasn't too far, and I just stuck a stupid grin on my face and held on, rather than my other option of closing my eyes and hoping for the best. The bus was half full, and as the first on, I managed to get the best seats with noone in front of me. The trip in tiself was mainly uneventful, 3 dead dogs were the only real thing of ... read more

I decided that I need to go to the beach, so with that in mind, and to make sure I didn't miss it, I decided on a day trip to Ayutthaya. Unfortunately the night before, I had met an ex-pat, owner of the Oh my cod restaurants which are in both Bangkok and Pattaya. So we sat and drank and talked. One beer too many left me feeling wonderful at 6 o'clock when I needed to get up for my trip. Luckily the breakfast supplied at the restaurant of my new found friend, was as english as I have ever found out here and lovely. It certainly went a long way to help with the way that I was feeling. To anyone that comes to Bangkok and is looking for a good english breakfast, I truly ... read more

The last few days have been a whole load of laziness. I have managed to give myself a personal red t-shirt, as I stayed by the pool a bit too long yesterday, and all the white bits that aren't used to the sun have turned a nice shade of red, all except for the bit of my back where my ponytail was. My neck and face and arms are all the same as they were, so looking in the mirror is making me laugh at the moment. I have decided to give the pool a miss today, giving my body a chance to recover. The days have all been very similar. I get up, I eat and read. Sit in the pool for a while, getting out to laze around reading some more. Heading back down ... read more

Hello all Well I am here, relaxing doing little. I started well, I told my friend who was dropping me off at the airport the wrong terminal. So instead of a nice easy drop off at T4, we had a tour of T1 and T2 before dropping me off at T3. It wasn't until I checked the departure board to find my flight wasn't on there that I re-checked my ticket to find that I had been wrong all along. After a quick train shuttle to the correct terminal, I then proceeded to get through security no problems and onto the plane. We then missed our allocated space to leave Heathrow as several people decided that shopping was far more important than actually catching the plane. This led to us all sitting on the tarmac for ... read more
