Hippo alert!
Must have been awesome to see such ferocious animals up close. The escort to and from dinner sounded a bit scary... reminded me of when we stayed in a lodge in India and had to call a guard to escort us from our rooms to the main building because of wild elephants and leopards coming to drink from their pool at night! The guard was unarmed and as old as the hills, so apart from spotting an animal and waring us, not sure he would have been much more help when we ran for our lives! :)

Hippo alert!
It sure was amazing seeing them! Your comment about the guard made me laugh - it was the same in Kenya!

Secretary Bird

This one made me smile
I find them so comical, like a cross between a hawk, domestic chicken and an ostrich :) I remember watching a documentary on them and I think they are only marginally shorter than me! :D

Reticulated giraffe

Wow!
Just stunning! How lovely to sit and watch such majestic creatures :)

Yes, it really was so incredible. It was such a joy to see such animals. I'll never forget it.

What a gorgeous photos. And an antidote to the anger that rises up in me when I hear or read of human cruelty to animals. What blows my mind is that it's not even for food or survival reasons - it's for such a laughably stupid reason :( On a happier note, I'm seriously enjoying re-reading your Kenyan blogs :)

Thanks Ren! I always try to remember all the incredible people working so hard to protect animals, when I hear about such idiocy and cruelty.

Cuteness overload
Those lions are so super cute! Your happy faces say it all really. The black faced vervet monkeys are so similar to the black faced langur monkeys native to Asia, also old world monkeys I suppose. And very very cute :)

Wow!
Reading your safari experiences for the second time is even more thrilling! I can absolutely imagine the excitement of that “there’s an elephant!” call :)

Wow!
Oh, it was so amazing to see our first elephant in the wild! I loved all the animals, but the giraffe ended up being my favourite animal (so much so that I recently got a giraffe tattoo) :)

Me in a shoe

Hilarious!
Have you even been to Amsterdam is you don't stand or sit in oversized clogs??? :D I'm now googling Vessis... they look like great travelling shoes.

Hilarious!
Vessis are great travelling shoes Ren, very lightweight and breathable, but waterproof!

“I still believe, in spite of everything, that people are truly good at heart.”
What a beautiful sentiment; although debatable when we look around the world at the moment :( I'm back in TB land and decided to re-read your Kenya blogs on here, even though I read them whenever I saw them posted on FB at the time :)

Thank you!
Yay! Thank you so much for taking me on your amazing journey through Amsterdam and Kenya! It seems like you had an incredible time, and I can see this from your words and photos. I love your quotes too, particularly travelling at this time - sailing away from the safe harbour. I can certainly understand the test worry, but also lovely to read that the pros very much outweighed the cons. I know it's a bit late now, but welcome back! ? And I look forward to reading about your upcoming adventure in Croatia ?

Thank you!
Thank you so much for following and commenting on my blog Alex! We really did have an incredible trip, and I am so glad we were able to travel last fall, especially with the emergence of the latest variant. The timing worked out so well. I am really looking forward to our Croatia trip!

Final Days
Gosh, it seems quite sad that your trip is coming to an end, I've very much enjoyed reading about it! It's been so varied - Holland, then Safari, then Tropical Beach - amazing! I understand why the deep sea fishing trip wasn't that much fun for you, I imagine it was one of those learning experiences though. The 6000/12000 Kenyan shilling story was funny to read about - I imagine the lovely lazy beach days were having an impact here, lol! Gosh, that is a long journey back for you - I imagine these relaxing beach days helped prepare you for this.

Final Days
Thanks Alex! It was such a varied trip, it seemed longer than it actually was. Yes, the hotel in Mombasa was a disappointment at first, but we had a much improved viewpoint the next day, and ended up very much enjoying our time there. It was a lovely relaxing way to end the trip, and made the long return trip home much less arduous!

Mombasa
Wow, quite a change of scenery! I imagine the new hotel room was a bit of a disappointment after such amazing camps. Well done on being able to get what sounds like a better room, it sounds like the manager wasn't too helpful. Glad to hear it all seemed better the next day - it's amazing what a good night's sleep can do sometimes! ? I like the idea of an adult pool, particularly in large resorts such as these. The boat excursion sounds fun. I'm really sorry to hear about your friend, that's very sad news ?
