Yesterday, we almost float away from our campsite, and thereby we missed a change to discover a great area and the last “non-safari” National Park. From today; the national parks will be different: Hello safari! Yes, finally, the safari would started. It defiantly would be the highlights of my trip. This was a child dream; a safari in Africa and it shall be coming true! I could defiantly not wait to see the first animals in the wild, especially the giraffes! I like them, due the fact they have so long necks. Too bad, I had to wait two extra days to see them, but we saw quite a lot other animals, including 4 of the big 5? Which ones? Keep on reading! We left the Amphitheatre Backpacker Lodge, a time later than we planned. The ... read more

Drankensbergen, the place of the rural mountains. That's sounds great; a great place to discover. Too bad we were not able to doing so, thanks to Rain, and Rain and even more Rain. Did I mention we had much Rain? So no, know you know. Actually, this is no joke and it was not even funny. We had to pack our bags and in a hurry we were able to leave our camping space and the rain behind. It started so nice. In the Drakensbergen you still can find the old paintings of the San people, you have very good hiking trails, and the nature is beautiful over there. If you visit South-Africa, the Drakensbergen are a “must” on your list. Also, it was the last park that we would visit without “safari” (except the Panorama ... read more

Africa » Lesotho » Malealea November 9th 2014

Yesterday, our stay in the Wild Coast was quite disappointed me. Today we travel northwards to another region that you should not miss; a small country called Lesotho. There, we will visit a very small town; Malealea. According Manda, this place is very great to hang out; here you can meet some traditional Africa. There is no access to electricity and we should be careful with using water. If you want to know if Malealea was disappointing, continue reading! Of course not! Malealea is not disappointing! Actually, it was also a great highlight of my trip. I wish that every day was so special. At 05:45 we had our breakfast before we went on the road, to the Malealea lodge. For the boarder, we took some lunch. While Lesotho is an own country we had to ... read more

The Wild coast is one of the less developed areas of South Africa. The coast should be wild and it’s a graet area to discover when you are on your trip here. Here, you can still go “off the beaten path”. I really looked forward, to this great place. But it was quite disappointment. Why? At the camping there was not much activities or excursions to do. The cruise that I looked forward to was very disappointing. Going out of yourself was not advised. The camping was not close to other highlights and ordering a taxi was not a good idea as well. So, we were stuck at a very boring place. At least they had a swimming pool to lay around there with a book, but I hate that. I want to do something, not ... read more

Tsitsikamma N.P. is a great place to hang out and it’s definitely a must in the Garden Route. This park has much opportunity’s for hiking, but with a quit sea you can enjoy diving and snorkeling and with luck you spot a whale. Or take a kayak, wild water rafting, a canopy tour but for the real dare devils, try the Bloukrans Bungy Jump. From the Bramon wine tasting, we drove to our next destination, Tsitsikamma N.P. But first, we cross the Bloukrans Bungy Jump. This bungy jump is the highest bungy from the world. We drove on the same bridge as the jump. The bridge is placed at the Bloukrans River valley; with its lowest point around 200 meters down below. So if you jump, you would do around a 160 meters bungy jump. There ... read more

A long ride was scheduled for this day. In the morning, we left Cape Town, to ride to Knysna, a ride of approximately 520 km. The main activities shall be carried tomorrow; a kayaking excursion at Keurbooms River (it actually was scheduled for Plattenberg Bay, but it was changed to Keurbooms River, due the conditions of the wild sea) and a wine tasting at one of the warm farms, before we should move on to the next destination, Tsitsikamma N.P. In this blog post you can read how my first camping night was, if I stayed dry during kayaking and if the South African wine is approved. At 6.45 the Truck was standing before the hotel, where Bheki helped us to put our luggage into it. Before we left, there was some time for breakfast in ... read more

Today, it was our first real day in South Africa. Also the beginning of waking up early and going on time to bed. Today, our breakfast was quite late for the trip: at 7.30 am. At 8.00 am the truck shall leave to bring us to the Cape the Good Hope. Our breakfast in Ashanti Lodge was quite nice. A lot of fruit, two sorts of yogurt, bread, choose out of 4 juices. It was fresh and quite good. At 8.00 am we left for an hour drive to Cape the Good Hope. Of course, we looked first to the Table Mountain, but a lot of mist hung at top of the mountain, leading it was closed. The Cape the Good Hope was discovered by Dias, a Portuguese explorer in 1488. However, some historians believe that ... read more

Today, my child dream will coming true: a visit to (Safari) Africa! But, there was one little problem: before I booked, I really had no idea where to go. South/East Africa is big, and each country has his unique landscape and traditions. I searched a country where I can see a lot of wild animals, beautiful scenery, and culture (traditional African live and history). But, where to start? To get an answer to this question, I visited a travel grant. A lot of travel specialist recombined me South Africa; a living culture, a lot of history, great nature, interesting history and of course the famous park, the Kruger. I found my trip by the Dutch organization Djoser; a 21 camping trip. The local agency was Africa Travel Co, which organized much Africa overland trips. They have ... read more

To every trip, there comes and end, and today it’s the day. Jordan was a great adventure, and I really feel myself privileged to visit this great country with it’s beautiful treasures. My highlights were: Petra, especially the Treasury, is without doubt the most beautiful thing I ever saw in my life. Floating in the Dead Sea, everyone should do that. Wadi Rum, beautiful sights, the climbs and a great camel ride. Wadi Dana, this hike was really adventures and the nature park is so beautiful and Madaba, much art, friendly people and a great atmosphere here. The local people were hospitable, and gave a great sight in their lives. But now, it was time to go home, back to the Netherlands and say farewell to this great country. We had to be early at the ... read more

Middle East » Jordan » North » Amman October 22nd 2013

Today, it was the last day in Jordan, and we had one place of interest left; Amman. Amman is a hectic city, but it’s great to do the Downtown route from the Lonely Planet Guides; this route brings you from the epic city centre, to the gold souks and the (vegetable) market, it leads you to a great place where you can watch over the city (Citadel Hill), and it’s ends at the Roman heart of the city. This route is around 3 hours, and I really should recommend doing this route. But first, we were still in our Aquavista hotel in Aqaba. We had to stand up quite early, because we had to drive to Amman. This ride shall take us over the Desert Highway and least about 4 hours. If we are lucky, we ... read more
