We have been back from China for two weeks, so I believe it is time to return to our somewhat "normal" lives here in the USA!! So, with that in mind, the 10 year old blog which I have been writing is the place to go to remain in contact with our travels within the states. With that in mind, and with the thoughts that some of you may not have been reading my blog......the website address is listed here: http://use2bbandman.wordpress.com Not certain this will be published as a link......not for certain if TravelBlog does that, but......just copy and paste it into your browser to find me. You can also subscribe on that blog for notifications as to when I write and publish on there. It has been GREAT to have sooooo many of you traveling ... read more

I am a 100% people watching person......yep, I have always, ALWAYS enjoyed watching people....wherever I am. I can sooooo well remember when I was in the USAF, stationed at Offutt AFB at SAC Headquarters......and, trying to not spend any money(not too much to spend in those days), I would find myself oftentimes out at the Omaha, Nebraska, airport.....sitting and watching the people hurry and scurry through the airport!!! Yep....it was free to park there in those long ago days of the late 1960's, and so....what type of entertainment could be cheaper and more informative?? I always was wondering just where they were going.....where were they flying to, or...from??? Jealous I was....as I have always loved, LOVED to travel, in the figments of my imagination which I was a little boy. Having now been to 48 countries ... read more

Since I did such a poor job of writing this China trip blog.......everything being out of sequence.......I plan to continue to write one, perhaps two more posts concerning many thoughts I have now that the jet lag is about finished. However, I must return to my home blog in the next few days so that I can write about TheHowserHouse being filled to the brim with family for the Turkey Day weekend. We are also leaving at the end of next week for our home....winter home....in the McAllen, Texas, area. We will be there about four months this year and there will be, as always, LOTS to write about with the many activities and friends which we enjoy there. Sooooo......if you are new to my blogs, then stay with me...as I will announce on here when ... read more

I just realized that I had not put some really lovely photos on the blog.......at the Dumpling Dinner and Music/Dance Show at the Tang Theater. Please go to the Nov 12 entry and check out the photos at the bottom of that post. It has been a total out of sequence blog on this trip to China.......soooooo sorry about that. The lack of wifi destroyed the sequence and the catch-ups that followed. Now that the jet lag has worn off.....I am realizing just how confusing this must be for many of your. Sooooooo Sorry!!!... read more

BACK TO THE BLOG JOURNAL: On Thursday, Nov 12, as stated in the last part of the blog journal of our China trip......we left the ship in Chongqing and made the flight from there to the Shanghai International Airport.....which by the way has been rated the #1 international airport in the WORLD!!! It took us about 2 hours to make the flight.....great tail winds, I suppose brought about the shorter air travel time over to the east coast and where we landed at the Shanghai International in Pudong, north of the major part of the city. As this is the last city we visited, I might speak again about the immensity of the cities which we visited.....ALL over many millions in population. Chongqing, which we just had left is THEEEEEE largest city in the country of ... read more

With only about three days left in this tour and our China trip, I would like to pause for a bit of the journal and just talk about this country and the major parts of our trip which we liked...and, disliked!! !. FOOD!! Most obviously, I do not know what I expected, but it very quickly came to my mind that we would be getting nothing to eat but......Chinese meals. In the major hotels (Beijing, Xi'an, Suzhou, and Shanghai)......our breakfasts were unbeatable!!!! It was easy to get around to the various types of food bars withing the breakfast room: pastries, rice/noodles, the grills cooking eggs of all types...scrambled, fried, omelets, eggs on veggies, etc., etc. , bacon, ham, salamis of various kinds, cheese, some tortillas, other veggies that were hot or cold, and soooo much more ... read more

OOPS!!!! I noticed just a few minutes ago that in my addled and crazed and hazed state of jet lag, I have left out some photos from our little walking adventure back into a narrow gorge/valley where the Tribe of the Three Gorges used to live. I mentioned this on the first long post which I made while in China, but never posted any photos of it. A long 2 mile walk in and then back to the ship......at the end of the 2 miles, there were some buildings and......a "show"....a marriage ceremony using one of the tour members from another bus as the groom. There were monkeys, a couple of boats with costumed Chinese ladies, a bridge....and, some musicians for the ceremony. Great fun it was, even though the walk was lengthy. Sooooo, here are ... read more

Sooooo sorry about the interruption of this blog, but.....I had no idea that the wifi availability while in China would be so terrible!!! Yes....the huge and very modern hotels we stayed in while in the cities of Beijing, Xi'an, Suzhou, and Shanghai did have wifi, however (another excuse coming.....), by the time we would return to the hotels I was soooo tired and the morning wake-up calls were soooo early that I just did not remain "up" so that I could write. It was a very, very active trip with little to none times for "free time" so that we could return to the hotel or.....go ou and explore. This lack of free time bothered me, Marsha, and many others in our tour bus of 29 participants. We had no idea that things would be scheduled ... read more

After a 10+ hour flight from Shanghai, we arrived here at LAX before we left Shanghai, going backwards in time. A great testimony that our airports are waaaayyyyy behind China.......we could find NO currency exchanges that were open at 4pm, LAX time!!!! Not even in the International Terminal!!!!!! How absolutely ridiculous......insane!!!! At the Travelodge Hotel here at LAX for the night. Leave at 7:20AM in the morning on a on-stop flight to STL. VERY tired!! LIFE IS REALLY, REALLY GREAT!!!!!!.......And, I hope it is for all of you, also!!!! Do not forget: Life is too short to stay in one place!!... read more
