So I was driving up the Otago peninsula, just before sunset, with the light slowly dying, having just arrived to Dunedin, the neighboring city (a real city!). Why? To try and see some bird that is not only flightless, which is pretty common around here, but actually prefers to swim. Penguins usually go out of the water at sunset, at least in this time of the year, to feed their chicks, which can't swim yet and stay in the nest on dry land. I knew those birds are common on the Otago peninsula, but I didn't know exactly where, and whether it's late enough for them to come out, but early enough so I could see them.
