So glad you made it safely and great to see all the lovely pictures of Joy's family and the beautiful scenery. Enjoy the rest of your time in Malaysia and we really look forward to seeing you when you get back. Big hugs and kisses from us two xxxx
Well done both of you Hi Joy and Steve , We knew that you would do it . Exmouth to K.L. sounded impossible when you were talking about it and if I may say so , slightly mad . But we have loved following your adventures and look forward to seeing you on your return . Good luck with your Mount Kinabalu climb. Will send a personal e-mail soon . Enjoy the rest of your trip and above all take care . Love Phill and Pat . x x
Congratulations Hi Steve - Hi Joy
MANY CONGRATULATIONS on reaching the chequered flag!! It's been quite a journey eh, both in terms of actual distance/mileage but also emotionally. I have always been jealous of your freedom and your ability and desire to adventure and to feel the joy through your blog now you've achieved your aim doubles those feelings. I love the fact that you're already looking forward and planning your next project - and find it very funny that an engine will be going with you next time!!!! Pushbikes are good but the combustion engine is a marvellous thing eh????
I recognise and love the "life is not a rehearsal" line you mentioned and you've certainly both taken that on board and given all of your blog readers proof of that saying if proof were ever needed. Glad to hear about the wedding you've been invited to - a reason for you to get shaved and have a haircut must be embraced and welcomed!!!!
We're now looking forward to your return to the UK and hope to catch up with you once you've settled back in.
Have a great time between now and then - it'll be lovely not having a saddle stuck to your rear end for the next 2 months I'm sure - and get back safely.
Regards and much respect to you both.
Pete, Rach and Mosella x x x

Hi you two - thanks for the email Joy - have just caught up with the blog - such interesting reading and brill pictures. Hope troubles settle and you can carry on as planned. Take care Lots of love xxxxx
Glad You're There Safe Hi Steve - Hi Joy - so glad you're there safe and finally starting your last part of the journey. The trip to Heathrow sounds like a good dit for another day, perhaps over a nice cold drink when you get back in the summer. Given the horrendous time you've had over the past few months, I hope the next 4+ months are enjoyable and very special for you. Keep safe, keep well and keep in touch. Regards Pete, Rach and Mosella
Awe and Admiration Dear Steve and Joy, This is the first time that I have opened your blog since Eric Conway pointed me at it and I wanted first to say how sad I was to read of the death of Steve's father - Sarah and I send our deepest condolences and hope that things are returning to a more even keel. Congratulations on your fantastic travel success, and even more so on having the focus and the resolution literally to get back in the saddle and finish the dream. Good luck as you prepare to prepare to depart once more and we shall be following you closely. Best wishes, Jerry and Sarah Heal
Sympathy, Support and Singapoe Slings Steve and Joy,
Firstly, my deepest symapthy for your loss and although I didn't know your dad I do know that as a Scott he must have been a hell of a bloke!
Secondly, I have only glanced at your trip now and then as you have filled me with complete envy - I know it has been tough, but I know a shit day in the saddle is ten times better than a good day in the office. You are living your dreams and not dreaming about living and in doing so it makes you exceptional - keep it up and live every day experiencing the wonders of the Far East....the people, food, history, beer, sun, beer, beaches, beer etc without the daily grind in slow time and not at a sprint...I so miss the smells and sounds of my time there and I look forward to hearing about your adventures when you eventually get back.
Thirdly, make sure you have a few beers or singapore slings in Singapore for me.....as Raffles is still a great place to sit and chew the fat, eat peanuts and get slowly scuppered!
Finally, stay safe and be assured that the old fella will be having a few large ones upstairs and remarking what an adventure you are on and will contiune to have as after all this is only the start as you can never really turn back! You both have real commando spirit and I will catch up with you to hear all and sip a few cold ones in August!
All the very best
Jon, Becs and boys xx
Congratulations Dear Joy and Steve, I have just caught up with your web-site and am very sorry to hear about your Dad's illness. I remember meeting him at your leaving bash at NMC and we had a good chat. Congratulations on your achievements - reaching India in the time you did was amazing. The web-site is a work of art too! It's a very inspirational read and I really hope that sometime in the future you manage to carry on where you left off. As I've been away for the last few months I'm a bit out of touch with how things are at present so I'll try and get in touch with Roy to find out. All the best mate and love to Joy. Regards, Eric (Afghanistan) Grete (Gastonbury).
Christmas Hi Joy! Just reading your latest blog and we were wondering when you were coming back for christmas? Will you be here long enough to catch up with any of us?
Love the pics

Oih Lofty!! As the highlight of my working week is reading your dits, I believe your loafing on producing articles. Could this be due to the beer being slightly cheaper than the Arms? I feel I know Cochin inside out now, so hurry up with the next one!!
hi Hi gorgeous Joy - you look great - and fab Steve - you look great too!! Gosh sounds as if you are having an amazing time - hope vertigo better Steve. Take care Lots of love xxxx
Happy Birthday Joy! First time I've dropped in on you, you both look great! And it looks fantastic where you are. So glad your journey is going well. Very wet and soggy here so you aint missin anything! Shaun liked Goa though his bike had an engine on it! Keep well, keep cool, keep pedalling! x
Belated birthday greetings Hi Steve and Joy, hope you had a good birthday Joy, and sorry we've not been in touch lately. Just caught up with all your news since arriving in India, sounds great. Happy birthday Joy. Whether it's a slight touch of vertigo or rusting bikes or lack of hot water its got to be better than debating whether Jonathan Ross and Russel Brand are worth what the BBC is paying them. Happy pedalling.
Hi Joy and Steve. Have just returned from Cyprus, great time had. But yours sounds better . We are so envious of you being in India , everytime we see or hear anything on India , we just want to go back . I'm sure you will love the place, it's a real experience . Well done to both of you on a fantastic acheivement . Keep the blogs coming , because we have to keep our family and friends here in Starcross , informed too !!We will send a personal e-mail soon. Take care . Love and best wishes Phill and Pat .
Hi Hello Steve - Hello Joy
Great reading your blog - what an adventure it is eh? As I've said in texts, I'm so jealous of your freedom etc. I liked the bit about being sad going on bike day trips - too true! I think after that long sat on it (2500 miles) it'd be the last place I'd want to put my ass on "days off"!! I had my leaving lunch back at NMC the other day - we couldn't do it prior to leaving. It was great to go back and see everyone but it's still weird without you being round. The biggest topic of conversation throughout the afternoon was your shedding of your outer layers!!! At that point, I'd not seen the photos like I have now - I must say you're looking fantastic mate - meant in a very NON-homosexual way of course!! I've started riding my bike nearly every day now - hopoefully I'll shed a few pounds too! I'm not sure about the facial hair though - looks like you're trying to swallow a large fox in a one-er!!!
Shame about the toliets - Rach would have a nightmare cos she finds the need to squat over here if we ever need to go whilst away from the house so she'd hate it!!! If that's all you've got for the next 6 months, GOOD LUCK JOY!!!!!
Keep enjoying yourselves - yet again there are seemingly constant reminders back here that life is NOT a rehearsal and that you only get one chance etc, but it's one that you are both taking really well and certainly making the most of. Enjoy it but do take care and keep well. Looking forward to next update. Regards. Pete C x
We are Steve and Joy Scott a 'young at heart' couple who have decided to put our careers on hold and spend the next 12 months travelling round the world.
We are currently living in Exmouth, Devon, UK, but in June 2008 will set off from Wrexham, N Wales (Steve's birthplace) to cycle to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (Joy's birthplace).
Our plan at the moment is fairly flexible - not wanting to be tied to tight schedules or allow future conflicts to detract us from achieving our goal. In outline, we will cycle across Europe to Turkey, stopping at places that we find interesting. Around October/N... full info
