Cape York (Lucy) Hi Lucy
We are sure you would be fine - we were pretty novice at this before we did it! We thought it wasn't as rough as the Oodnadatta, maybe depends whether the graders have gone through recently on the bypass road, the OTL itself is narrow but fine in a high clearance 4WD, and the river crossings that we did were not too difficult or deep - always walk the crossings first, map out your route eg shallowest and avoiding dips and holes and watch others go through if you can. You can skip the deepest one (Nolans) by taking the bypass road a couple of crossings after Elliot Falls. It's fun to do the crossings but you can drive all the way on the Development road in a soft roader if you want to! Around that time of year it will be quite busy too and always someone coming through so you won't really be alone! You tend to meet up with the same people along the way anyway. Good luck and if you need any more info just ask!
cape york Love your blog. Myself and a friend - both very mature females are heading up to cape in end july/august 09. We have travelled alone through Tanami, bungle bungle, gibb river road etc but somehow people think we shold not be doing this trip alone. We are very sensible and resourseful pair and believe we wold be fine. Your thoughts would be appreciated as you also seemed to travel alone (by alone I mean not in convoy!).

Hi Guys- News! Hi Guys - loving the updates! Guess what - we are moving to the Sunshine Coast! We will put our house on the market in the next few weeks and hopefully be there around Christmas. Mum is also selling up and coming with us. Will let you know our progress. We are looking at maybe Caloundra/ Maroochydore, unlikely we will go as far north as Noosa. Enjoy your travels! Ginny xxxx
Hi Kath and Blue Hi guys! Finally got to writing a few lines. You sound like you are having a great time. I am a bit worried about you going into the outback with very little contact with the outside world..take care and keep safe!! We are all well. Paul is in the USA playing soccer for 2 weeks with an invitation team , lucky devil. Only left on Sat 23.8.08 but have played 2 games and won 2 games so far. Off to look at USA colleges tomorrow and they have a Under 19's tournament all weekend this week in Orange County. One of their games is against the Under 18's Galaxy team - yes you are right David Beckhams club! Lucky devils..hoepfully the man himself might come along to watch, wouldn't that be a bonus. We are off on the 14th Sept on our OE to London, Spain and Portugal. Having a 3 days stop in Dubai on our way up and a 2 day in Brunei on our way back. Hope it wil all go well. Healthwise still a little dodgy just with pain etc from arthritis but will take plenty of medication with me to combat that hopefully. Have had a bone scan done 2 weeks ago and they have found I have a suspected fracture in my lower back (from my fall in April) so am waiting to see what the back specialist is going to do with that, possibly a back brace or something. I guess it was nice to catch up with some visitors from home. Hope your kids are both keeping well. Keep travelling safe and well. Hope to hear from you again soon..
Love Alison and Andy xx
Great photos Hi Brian and Kate,
We are enjoying reading all about your adventures and love the great photos. You sure are going to some beautiful places. You are proving that Aussie is more than dry sand and straight roads. The Sunshine coast is very beautiful. Continue to enjoy the warm weather. It is bloody cold here. We have had our share of rain for the winter. Looking forward to the next episode. Cheers Helen and Chris
Fantastic Reading Dear Kath and Blu,

Re: Tasmania Part 1 Thanks Alison and Andy - good to hear from you as always! Enjoy the dinner! I fear you are right about the time - the first 3 months on the road has gone very quickly and now we are heading into winter - hopefully we will be heading Northwards before it gets too much colder. We are in Adelaide until Wednesday then off to explore more of South Australia.
Love K and B
Sounds like you had a fantastic trip in Tasmania. Sorry I have only just got around to reading it. We are doing boring things like decorating the wash-house and main bathroom. We are almost finished thank goodness. Sue and Pete are on their big trip down the bottom of the south island and having a ball although they have had snow and sleet to deal with. They will be home the end of next week. We are catching up with Cheryl and Tom for dinner on the 10th May will have a drink for you both.
Keep well and happy. Enjoy your trip it will be over before you know it. Love to you both Alison and Andy

We travelled around Australia in 2008 in a 4WD and caravan, a wonderful trip over 11 months and 50,000 km! ( still some chapters to write up 2 years on). Not sure what is next.....
2015. What came next was a 3 month trip to the UK, with the main goal being to walk 300 km across England on Wainwrights Coast to Coast route! Highlights were the walk, a visit to Jersey and a week in Russia. Am working on co... full info
