Hello All We spent last night in a campground in Las Cruces, New Mexico. The sunset and sunrise photos are from our location atop a hill overlooking the city. As you might expect, it is hotter than hot here and expected to get even hotter over the next few days. Still, it is better than the snow we experience back home. The majority of the photos were shot (thank you Eileen) from the window of the RV. I think they are wonderful as they capture the essence of the landscape. Speaking of which, the ride from SanAntonio to ElPaso was desolate enough, but from Las Cruces to Tuscon, the landscape, though possessing its own unique qualities, is at best barren and desolate. And, driving through it for several hours, only serves to make it increasingly so. ... read more

Good Evening We rolled in to the campground about 2 hours ago after a day-long trek from San Antonio. The current photos were taken from the RV rolling down the highway at the speed limit of 80. Admittedly, it has taken a little getting accustomed to moving that fast. How will I ever be happy with 128? We hopped back onto the bus yesterday midmorning to walk around SanAntonio, have lunch, take the "River" ride and to buy a Stetson for Eileen. It is the one thing she has been talking about owning right from the start of the planning for this trip. Our ride out from SanAntonio (I 10) was uneventful except for the almost constant search for gas. This road takes one through some very beautiful but desolate landscape. There was no apparent habitation ... read more

Hello all Eileen was interested in seeing downtown Nashville and Ryman Auditorium where the Grand Ole Oprey was held for the longest time. It was a bit difficult to get to as many of the streets were blocked for construction. After some jockeying, we finally pulled up in front. Unfortunately, the photos did not come out, but she is happy just to say she was there. I'm including photos from the last couple of days. We did go to Dallas to see where IT happened. After all these years this location remains a quiet spot of reverence, especially for the individuals who were alive then and old enough to understand. We count ourselves fortunate to go and stand in front of the spot, marked by an X in the middle of the road, and to be ... read more

With this entry I want to say a special hello to Charlie and his family. I hope you enjoy all of the pictures. We got up early so we could get in to see downtown Charlottsville and then get on the road out to Tennessee, which, by the way, is a much larger state than we realized. It took us seemingly forever to get to the campsite. As it turns out it is located just 6 miles down the road from Loretta Lynn's Hurricane Mills Dude Ranch, so naturally, we went to see what it was all about. She certainly is a very enterprising woman. I took a few photos which I will include in a bit. We've been driving through Tennessee, Arkansas and are now outside of Dallas. We will go into town tomorrow for ... read more

We are excited to be here. We began our day with a walk in the woods with the dogs, returning for eggs and english cooked on an incredibly compact propane stove. The campground was typical and for those familiar with a certain environmental camp in New Hampshire: that can not compare for the number of flying "things" willing to relieve you of a bite or two of skin. But, all is well. We took off a bit later than we expected which caused concern about seeing Monticello. We drove to a town called Front Royal wherein is located one of the four entrances to Skyline Drive. As most of today's photos attest, the weather was mostly cloudy and humid, thus causing a deep mist to form over the valley, thereby blurring our view. Still, I shot, ... read more

We picked up the Rv at the Rental agency, brought it home and almost immediately began to load it with essentials in anticipation of our "take off". As it turns out we decided not to take a nap but rather, to push forward and ultimately left all "known" society and took to the open road. We were not too far down 128 when the rain came down in torrents, hindering visibility and, yes increased the potential for accidents, which, surprise! happened. As if it were not enough a strange yellow wrench icon suddenly appeared on the dashboard of this brand new unit. As luck would have it, when we tried calling the number we were advised to contact in case of trouble, both of our cell phones stopped working. We pulled into a gas station closeby ... read more
