Hi Nettie Just sat down after a long day, was looking forward to reading your blog and eeks.....didn't feel right about your caption.
I'm so glad to hear you're alright!!!!! Material things can be replaced. Travel safe and enjoy your experiences. lots of love....xoxo
Hey Brave Netters!
There were 5 jerks in the car (who knows, perhaps they are victims of corrupt politics or moral erosion) but there were also 4 WONDERFUL people watching over you and protecting you...for absolutely no other reason than human kindness. That is the real beauty of travel and the reason you do it.
You can't be saved from all difficulty. During my travels in Brazil, I had money stolen, I was hit by a car and had to ward off slimy men left right and centre...but those are not the memories that stick.
I believe that our angels send the people who help us. And they work overtime when we step out of our "comfort zones."
You keep truckin'! Apart from the jerks, it sounds like you had a lovely time. And you will have many more lovely times (for me to read and dream about at 2:00 am back home! :)
The more I look and your pics and read your stories, the more I feel like I need to leave for a safari this instant! lol. You sure are taking it all in.
Janet! What a scary story, I am so glad that you didn't get hurt, you must still be shaken up. I hope that they catch the buggers!
Sending you hugs and kisses from montreal!
xxoo
The confusion you feel is very normal, I think, and one that everyone who has travelled to S. Africa feels. I will be interested to see if you make peace with that feeling before you come home...That feeling still resonates with me. The frustration you felt in your last post (re: apathetic voters in Canada) is also very true. We are so spoiled, and many of us take it for granted. Lots of hugs! xo
wow jeanette, that IS a gorgeous photo!!! :) happy (and safe)travels. i will be thinking about you. wishing these adventures lead to your heart's passion. the canadians will miss you! :)
Grand Turk - Paradise! Good Morning!
I was lucky enough to live on the Island of Grand Turk for 4 years way back in 1998. It has to be the best time of my life. I could not believe that one could be perfectly happy day in day out on an island 1 mile by 7 miles.
Looking at your photos it seems to have developed quite a lot, is it for the better? I have never managed to go back but would dearly love to one of these days. Happy times were spent in the Salt Raker Inn listening to Mitch and Dave and I loved the afternoons when I would go walking on the desolate beaches. Heaven!
Anyway I have been back in Scotland for a few years now and long to go back!
Best wishes and thanks for the memories in your photos...

hey brave one! i have been thinking about you and how the ships make it through these hurricanes. i am just glad you are safe. the journey sounds really wild and i just want netters back home in one piece so she can meet my little guy! :) enjoy the calm and find balance in the storm, my friend.
My mom's been getting lots of info like this at work too about the cruises being re-routed and some even stuck in some ports, not able to return home. We're thinking this is a big reason for all the delay as of late for me getting on a ship. I suppose patience really is a virtue. Sorry to hear about your crazy rough night!
LOVE the pictures! I'll have to steal them from you at some point. Will you be posting on Facebook? I quite enjoy them. Oh the shark. My Aunt will be so happy that we put it to good use.
Good luck this next month Aunt Nettah! Be sure to send me your work e-mail (yes, I forget it already), as I'm sure I'll have TONS of questions for you in the next week or two!
Happy Sailing!
Living Life by the Moments Sounds like you had yet another wonderful experience. I hope you can find time soon to process it all. Can't wait to hang out with you more in the next few weeks :)
I make and teach art. The rest of the time, I travel. After Spain, England, Uganda, California and years of tour guiding, it was time for the next big adventure. Working for Carnival Cruise Lines. I signed onto my first ship in December 2006. Sevent contracts and twelve ships later and I've been around the Caribbean, Central America, Mexico, Hawaii and Alaska.
What have I put my hard-earned cruise money to? More travel! Oct - Dec 08 I travelled around South Africa. Sept 2010 I went to Fiji which had been at the top of my travel list for years. Making dreams come true!

I Need a Day Like This
I love beaches, but I'm missing greens and... nature. Looks like a lovely day :)
