What a wonderful story!
I am always amazed at the women I meet around the world - even those countries I think are male dominated - who are quite happily unmarried.

Great market!
These stepped tiers do look like a ziggurat, Lovely market there, seeming both modern and ancient. Your pants look like ones from Ecuador, but sold in Bolivia and here in Peru to tourists. I used to wear them, many years and pounds ago, and loved their airy feeling--you can move any which way.

Pants
I enjoy being inside that space..it is so comfortable. And my pants are, too! Everyone knows I'm a tourist when I wear them.

Show us the pantaloons!
Ok, you can't get away with posting this without showing us a picture of the pantaloons, preferably being modeled. I may have to have you get a pair for me!

So wise!
Really, it's so wise of you to trust the bus/moto/whatever drivers. I think there's nothing we can do anyway, and they probably don't want to die, so best to just relax and trust that all will work out. I love your collection of lines from the film, "Life is just like eating sweet potatoes. You never know when you fart." Isn't that just the truth. And regarding the sweet lady that lowers the floor of your room, it's so interesting that speaking the truth about we who are--perhaps a little old or a little fat (me, not you) is something that other cultures see as simple truths, rather than our silly western ways of thinking these offensive. So much to learn from others. I love your easy-going way of doing so.

Life is like sweet potatoes
Those drivers sure don't want to hurt their source of income, and they know that if you know they ripped you off, you will not want to use them again. I know all that, I really do, but for some reason I get into a bad habit of assuming I'm going to have to really haggle with them. I've found that Cambodia is the least stressful of all places to negotiate rides and to buy merchandise. I really do enjoy the people here, for their kindness and helpfulness. As for switching rooms, I'm so glad now, because I managed to screw up my knee so the sweet woman who says I'm a little old fixed me up with a huge bag of ice. Thanks for reading and commenting on my blog!

I only worry about...
the situation where an incumbent who loses then trains the successor, but deliberately does a poor job of training so the successor isn't qualified to fill the position, letting the incumbent stay in the position. I hope it works out! At least the outcome of elections at the local level elections is not predetermined!

Winners and losers
Hi, thanks for your comment. My sense is that there is such dedication and concern shared by the old and new workers for the success of the project in the community. I really don't see intentional undermining by an outgoing person. As it turned out, the director was reelected, and one of the receptionists as well, so there is some continuity. And there is some close supervision as well to improve chances of success. Terry

Inspiring...
Hi Terry, I am inspired by the eager turn out and concern for the environment. I wish that was happening in my neighborhood. The hunting continues just farther out from my place. I am going to contact the Nature Conservancy to see if they will purchase the secondary forest next to my property...it is an island of nature, the rest cattle lands. :( You look happy in Cambodia! Blogger of the Week
Hello Theresa, I just wanted to let you know that I think that your writing is beautiful; I nominated you for blogger of the week. This is what I said when I nominated you: "I would like to nominate Theresa Nichols for her beautiful prose, sophisticated vocabulary, and general lovely approach to writing. Her 11/23/2014 entry about a funeral for a 12-year-old girl is not to be missed." Keep up the sensitive approach to travel, photography and writing! Best, Monique

Your sequined dress...
is definitely missing. I have one in my closet that would have been perfect for this event...I will fit you perfectly! I will try to get it to you one day for future travels! Bobbing and snaking sound fun.

Missing wedding costume
Yep, sure needed something sparkly. I was way out of place. Really hard to keep from breaking into a "full bob" with hips moving and hands in the air.

I can smell the spices!
Hi Terry, Yes, cooking from scratch takes time...I love fresh coconut milk, so delicious. I would like to have a mat like the one you are kneeling on with the young girl only in blue and green! It looks like the ones made in India from recycled plastic. Always fun to connect with the locals.

Great Pictures & Story to go with them
Very nice images but if I may, you need to include objects and/or people to give some idea or reference for the size of the center of interest. It is something I tell my students to do with their photos.

great suggestion

Quite a ride!
Hi Terry, It sounds like you had quite a ride! I never heard of a motorcycle taxi. Knowing how adventurous you are, I am surprised you didn't go down the water slide.

four legs
Reminds me of an old Chinese say that goes something like this -- If it has four legs and it's not a table, we eat it!
