Kat, Amy, Mario and myself spent a lovely day at Mochimune beach. Mochimune is about 20 minutes from the city centre. The beach itself looks like a typical Japanese beach, black sand and ugly cement pylons, however the water was fine the sun was out so I was happy! After our swim, we found a cool little backpackers place and spent the rest of the afternoon there, having lunch with some beers, and relaxing! ... read more

Katie in Shizuoka & Amy back in Japanland I was excited for Kate to see where I live in Japan and party with us! We had many great nights out. One night after great burgers at Sitting Bull, We went up to a lookout at Nihondaira hill. It overlooks Shizuoka city but is a bit of hike in total darkness (ok maybe only about a 5 minute walk, but it feels like forever - I'm lucky to have a boyfriend who will piggy back me!) We had ice creams and lay on the warm ground for about an hour just watching the sky and waiting for shooting stars. We saw so many, some real big ones too! Once we made sure we had all seen the same one, we began our trek back through the ... read more

While Katie was in Japan, I wanted to show her one of my obsessions about this country. I think now she understands! We took a small road trip in our hire car around the base of Mt Fuji and the five lakes. We were VERY lucky for such nice weather as we were able to see the great mountain which is very rare in summer. First we went to Fuji Safari Park. It was so cool, we got to drive our own car around the park while the uncaged animals casually walked past us on the road or gazed at us from only a few metres away, with only our car separating us from them!!! Take a look at the pics! After our drive through the park, we then walked around another part of the park ... read more

Asia » Japan » Tokyo August 10th 2007

Kate was excited about coming to Japan for just 2 reasons, one was to see me (of course)...and the other was to go to Disneyland!!! Rebekah met us in Tokyo and came to Disneyland too! It was my second time visiting the magical place where dreams come true, and it was just as exciting as the first!!!! I love Disneyland! Apart from the rides, my favourite thing this time was the Jack Sparrow fire and water night show! One minute, everyone is being sprayed with water, and the next, there are huge balls of fire flaming above the crowd! By the end of the day we were all completely exhausted, hot and probably smelly, but we had a fantastic day!!!... read more

I met Katie in Tokyo and we spent 5 crazy, very busy, fun days in Tokyo. We went to Shibuya, Shinjuku, Roppongi Hills, Asakusa, Ginza, Harajuku, Disneyland , and briefly visited Yokohama one evening!!! So we pretty much saw everything, and twice went to lookout towers for day and night views - amazing! It was absolutely stinking hot, but loved it! What is summer without the sun? On Sunday, Kate and I left Tokyo and took the shinkansen to my city, Shizuoka. More blogs coming soon.... ... read more

Who said Japan was a safe country? In one week Japan was hit by a typhoon and major earthquake!!! Well apart from natural disasters, which aren't too uncommon, I feel very safe living here. Eye of the Typhoon Apparently the first part of the typhoon hit overnight, and the next day we saw the effects of it, the beach was all churned up and the Abe River was the fullest I have ever seen it, usually only but a small stream is flowing! The weather began to clear a little and Mario remembered a place with a ship on the other side of the river. He then forgot where it was exactly, so after a few times going back and forth over the bridge, we finally found it - a very random, but cool park with ... read more

My brother, Peter, came to visit Shizuoka for a week. Although he is in his favourite place in Japan now, Tokyo, I hope we showed him a good time in our city! He ate the best Gyoza in Japan, saw beautiful sunsets, went to a festival, ate traditional food, met all my kindy kids, went to the best rollercoaster park ever (Fuji-Q Highland), had a barbecue amongst bonsai then rode a bicycle into the city and drank till he...was a bit sick (Bonsai Barbecue), and found his wife! Ok everything but the last part is true, despite what Tomoko thinks! ... read more

On Sunday at 7am, seven of us piled into Mario's work van and headed to one of my favourite places in Japan...Fuji Q Highland Roller Coaster Park!!! After briefly spotting Mt Fuji through the clouds, our attention turned to the great big hunks of metal that put together, create the masterpieces of Fuji Q - the coasters! Hurrying through the photo booths that print your face on your day pass, we nervously rushed toward the newest and biggest attraction - eejanaika! One of only two of its type in the world, it holds the world record for most inversions - it goes upside down 14 times!!! Mario and I had been on it before but were still scared and shaking (well, Mario was anyway - he let a coin flip decide if he would go on ... read more
