such patience!
Yes you are both very patient. It is an amazing structure and great walking around that area. To think all those years ago they were able to devise a plan to bring water down the valley to the towns below. Must have been patient work for those people too! Phil took lots of great images there but we didn't persist with various lighting options as you have done. I am not so patient so the iphone is fine for my lesser efforts at photography! I do get some great images at times and the photoediting on the iphone6 plus is pretty good, but nothing to rival your efforts. A joy to the eye! Only a month before Jill and I head off to UK for a 6 week stay. I am mostly organised now apart from a final hotel booking at the end of our hol. We have 2 wks in Greenwich, a few days in Bristol, a short stay around the Cotswolds, Stratford Upon Avon weekend staying with our cousin (does PR for Royal Shakespeare Co), 3 weeks in our Haworth apartment (not Fern House) and a road trip around Yorkshire with our niece and aunties visiting cousins along with a short stay at Bowness on Windermere. I have been wanting to visit Hilltop Farm for years to check out Beatrix Potter's farm and finally am making it happen. So lots of plans for the itinerary and much anticipation of great times with our very special UK family.

Really loved your panorama of Le Théâtre antique - great shot. Very sadly tonight I heard on the news that IS are closing in around the historic Roman city of Palmyra [Eastern Syrian desert]. There is enormous fear in the antiquities world that IS will destroy the ancient ruins [where I enjoyed a sunrise camel tour on my own in 2009]. What can be done to stop this death league? It is so sad that these radicals are robbing the moderate Muslims and the rest of the world of some truly amazing treasures. nostalgic journey
I am enjoying catching up with your blog and drooling over the lovely images too. Some of my favourite parts of the world. Phil and I loved our one week stay in Aix back in 2012 and also a week in Arles so we had plenty of time to explore those superb areas. In fact I could swear some of the photos displayed were ours! I was walking along with you through those streets and past those fountains and structures, imagining it all over again. We stayed in an apartment very close to the city centre with a supermarket one minute away. I loved walking through the narrow old city streets, but also enjoyed the modern aspects of the city too, especially the stunning street sculptures displayed at that time. Sadly travel does have its stressful moments but the enjoyment of new experiences outweighs the frustrations. Unfortunately there are times when it can colour our view of places we have visited over the years! I feel for non english speaking visitors trying to work out how to pay tolls or travel on our public transport system, such a minefield! Keep enjoying the good times! love Janet x

are you all prepared for your own trip with Jill? We are about half way through our eight week holiday so that must mean that you and Jill are due to start your own adventure in a little over four weeks time. I bet you are getting excited. I can't remember how long you are going to be away, but guess that you will be o/s until about the end of July?? Great route!
Lovely photos of the Grand Canyon du Verdon, and I give you two credit for driving on the "wrong" side of the road on those narrow streets. I tried driving in Ireland and quickly gave up, letting my brave friend do it. Great you had that until-now, unused insurance. Pretty scary! Enjoy Aix!

Your camera too??
Hi Tracey and Bernie, you really do experience some very interesting places - love all your daily 'blogs'. Sorry about your camera Tracey. I had similar problems with both my last 2 cameras; the Nikon was returned because of a battery problem [within warranty thank god], and it's replacement [only 15 months ago] - Olympus OMD - has just been sent for repairs because the touch-screen stopped working and the battery connection was also playing up [meaning I had to eject and then insert the battery before I could take any photos!!]. Sooooo annoying. I'm expecting to have to investigate another new camera as I've been told that it's easier to replace [even expensive cameras] than to repair! What a shocking indictment on modern consumer society?! You still have a long time to go before you come home so I hope you can get it fixed. Ciao for now. Caroline

Hi Bob, You may have seen our Cannes post now? It suited us to be Europe in May and it is just coincidence that we were on the Côte d'Azur at the same time as the lead up to the Monaco Grand Prix and just a couple of days before the Cannes Film Festival. Not being star watchers we would have preferred to see both places in their natural state rather than all pimped up for these events! But that's travel for you - you just have to go with the flow. Trophy decided
Well, we left the trophy behind this year after winning two years running. Good to share it around. They are so hospitable in Toc and we all had a great week. The weather was colder than usual however the rain held off until today so that was a blessing. I can imagine you will welcome having a car to go further afield without the usual bother of train timetables. I quite like using public transport when we travel because you see places and a side of their life that you may miss driving around. However sometimes it is too hard to get to certain places without your own wheels. Good to see you both enjoying your adventures to the max! xx

Bravo for braving a World's Fair!
I've always been afraid they'd be too crowded, so I admire you for going and reporting. Too bad most exhibits were into self-promotion and didn't showcase efforts to feed the world, but good for those that did. In 2004, in Barcelona, I attended a Universal Forum for Cultures, partly sponsored by UNESCO and learned so much. Well, thanks for saving me from having to go to the next Expo!

Hi Tara, I think it is probably unwise to attend a World's Fair during Week 1 as it was obvious that some sections of the site were still a bit underdone. I think we would consider going again if the theme interested us BUT I think we would also wait until other people had posted their thoughts on social media so that we could attend with a much better idea of which pavilions would be the best ones to visit.
