hi Robs and John, had another look at your blog. Such great pictures (loved your trick photos of bashing minutes of each other). I guess you\'re now in Peru? I suppose you\'ve heard the news of Mandela\'s death. We all knew would happen soon, but its still quite a shock - I feel quite bereft. Imagine his -- in Qunu near Umtata. Imagine all those world leaders - the Obamas, Clintons, Dalai Lama, Prince Charles (and their entourages)-- all descending on Umtata! Where the hell are they going to stay? I wonder if the electricity/toilets will hold up?
Hope you enjoy Peru/ Macchu Piccu. Margaret asked if you were going to visit Christo and Cata. They\'re in Colombia at the moment. Love Mom
Hello Mom Thanks for the comment. Robyn and I laughed when you said how difficult it will be for the royals to find suitable accommodation in Umtata. They might have to settle for coffee bay's backpackers in hammocks for the night along with our infamous long drop :) We are in Cusco, Peru now. We are booking a tour today to do the jungle trek up to Machu Picchu.
Miss and love you lots.
South America Just wanted to say we're enjoying reading your blog! In the middle of a similar trip and blogging about it too! Weharttravelling.wordpress.co.uk
unbelievable We thought the Fish River Canyon last day 25 k hike was tough.
Well done. You carried the Grahamstown Schools flag high. We breed them tough in SA.
lOVE YOU AND MISS YOU
WOW While you were in the snow etc we were boiling in Pilanesberg. Gav and Shan joined us for two days and it was great will tell yo about it when you get back, but Gav said you saw 100 birds so Jeanie was determined to "break your record" so she saw 110. Love you and looking forward to more news from you and to seeing you at Kenton. Pops and Jeanie
Brilliant pops tell Jeanie well done and that we actually only saw 88 birds so she kicked our asses :) Skyped Gav and he said you guys had an amazing time. Lioness hunting and raptor catching a fish. Africa is amazing!
So things have gotten a bit warmer? Hi Robyn and John,
So things are heating up a bit - over theeeere in Argentina. Quite a contrast to icy mountains and glaciers of Patagonia and ?? Calafata. The desert looks wonderful but those photos of you in the canyons made me think ... perhaps you've wandered into a sort-of desert-time-machine? because you look like a pair of hippies from the sixties: John's shaggy hair and beard and Robyn's hippie head-scarf. You're obviously having a great time and look really relaxed. I can't believe that they manage to grow grapes in that desert environment. Must produce some very sweet wine. Anyway, keep the photos and news rolling. Great to read about the weird and wonderful places that you're visting. Love you lots, Mom
Wow you guys what a super travelogue. The amazing adventures you are having in this incredibly beautiful landscape. The glacier blew my mind, there I would have gone bananas taking all variations of pics, the colors and ragged front were unbelievable. The inclement weather could of course only be fully confronted and enjoyed with the high spirits of true Scotsmen. Keep up the travelogue and show us a pic of one of those amazing steaks you rave about. If I can\'t taste or smell one I at least would like to see one.
Love dad/ferdy
Hey all (dad mom and Sylvia) thanks for all your comments. Went to an amazing vineyard today and wanted to ship home some wine to you all but export taxes are so high :( will have to bring some back when we get home. Missing u all. Lots of love
BBrrrrr I had forgotten how cold and windy it gets, luckily you remember all the good things afterwards, and you never forget the spectacular scenery. WOW you saw a condor on a nest 50 m away...........fantastic! I absolutely loved watching them hang around in the sky oblivious of the weather. It's a pity that you can't hang around and only hike on the days that the weather is nice and sunny (perfect world). Waiting in anticipation for the next episode..............
Wow! Hi Robs and John, What an amazing time you are having! Your letter is great -- beautifullly writing and manages to conjure up images even without us having to look at the photos (great to get it on e-mail as well as the blog). Your photos are also wonderful, but they make me shiver. Gee you guys are tough! Even when I was your age I would NEVER have managed what you did. Well done! Sad that you had to say goodbye to Gillian and Fraser, who -- by the end of the trip -- had become soulmates.
Hope the rest of your trip is as wonderful as the first week has been.
Love you lots, from Mom/Kippy
