The next morning, having finished our trek and sufficiently recovered from the exertion (& hangovers,) we boarded a bus to a place called Chang Kong in northern Thailand on the Mekong River. The Mekong acts as the border between Thailand and Huay Xai in Laos, so after going through border formalities on the Thai side, we jumped aboard a very dilapidated boat, worried slightly about sinking into the very murky Mekong and crossed into Laos. From here on in, any sort of organisation and understanding disappeared, we had been moaning about the lack of organisation on the Thai side to Andy and Katie (our trekking buddies) who were accompanying us, but it turns out that that the grass most certainly wasn’t greener.
