This morning's weather was a pleasant surprise. Although it rained most of the night, we woke to a brisk, clear day, with some clouds obscuring the mountains. We've been very fortunate on this trip. Although we've had our share of weather, for the most part it hasn't adversely affected our plans. We departed our site at 8 am. The Bayside RV park was one of the prettiest parks we've stayed at. It certainly was the best run and the cleanest we've ever seen. The place was immaculate. We began by backtracking up the Richardson Highway, making our first stop just outside of town at the base of the Valdez Glacier. The scenery there was pretty impressive, and the visual of all the gold seekers hauling 1000 lbs of equipment and supplies up this glacier was mind ... read more

Oh baby, did it feel good to get up this morning and not have to drive for the rest of the day. We were lulled off to sleep last night to the sound of a steady rain beating on the roof of the RV, and awoke to a gloomy looking morning, with low clouds hanging on the surrounding Chugach Mountains. After a leisurely breakfast however, the clouds began to break and the sun shone through. It was quite a sight to finally see all of the mountains that are around us. We ventured off with John and Diane to view the town of Valdez. It's a modest size town of 3,976 people. It's economy depends on the oil industry, the Prince William Sound fishery and tourism. The history of Valdez is interesting, with it's early inhabitants ... read more

Ready and on the road by 7:50 this morning. Beaver Creek was a great stop, especially with "Buckshot Betty's" two driveways down. Will miss Canada as our dollar is so strong there. We had pretty much a 25% discount on everything we purchased. In addition to that it is a beautiful country, and we really enjoyed traveling through it. After passing through the Canadian border there were bunnies everywhere! Not sure why, but I guess the wolves haven't discovered that they're there. The road between the Canadian and US Border crossing continues with the washboard conditions...fun. I am beginning to feel like I am in a covered wagon on the first crossing. Certainly not an area where you want to be putting on your make-up! The "Minnie Winnie" seems to be holding up well. No issues ... read more

Awoke to a rather chilly morning in Teslin, Yukon. Skies are clear, however, and no rain is in the forcast, so that's all good. There was only a wifi hotspot on the porch of the general store, so I went up this morning with my coffee, and published yesterday's blog. Sometimes it's a real hassle getting these things out, especially if it's been a long day and internet is not available at the site. Leaving Teslin, we motored up the east side of Teslin Lake, which is quite the sight. It straddles the BC-YT border, and is 86 miles long, over 2 miles across and averages 194 ft deep. Heading north and west, we passed through Johnson's Crossing and Jake's corner on the way to Whitehorse. Jake's corner is the turnoff we took two years ago ... read more

After a superb dinner at the Lodge’s restaurant, and a very restful sleep, we woke up to a monsoon going on outside our RV. To say we were disappointed is an understatement, as this next stretch of the Cassier Highway is known as the most scenic. We were hopeful that the weather would clear as we headed north. Ray and John unfortunately had the outside jobs of disconnecting everything and trudging off to get rid of the garbage. The plus side was they didn’t need to clean the windshield of bugs this morning. We decided to see how far up towards the Al-Can (Alaska-Canadian Highway) we could get today, and hopefully find an RV park that had internet. As we drove along, we had glimpses of what was hiding behind the clouds and rain, but did ... read more

What a beautiful morning we woke up to today. Sky is clear and the temperature is mild. We finished up our blog from the day before, had a nice breakfast prepared by the Cat Herder’s wife, and began the process of getting the RV ready to go. Water filled, electric disconnected, poop dumped, trash disposed of, bugs cleaned off the windshield, bump out pulled in, etc. Frontier life is grueling. This was a great RV park to stay in, quiet, not crowded, great wifi, and immaculate. Leaving Houston, we stopped at the Visitor center to get a picture of the world’s largest flyrod. It is 60 feet long and was designed by a local avid fly fisherman and built by local volunteers. As we headed up the Yellowhead Highway, the sky began to become overcast, but ... read more

Well it was quite a long day. Started from Wildwood Campsite, filled the gas tanks, and were on the road by 8:30. Had a minor mishap leaving the park when Ray did not take a corner wide enough and two dishes went flying out of the cabinet and crashed into a million pieces all over the floor. Luckily it was only two dishes or I would have been sweeping for most of the day! From Wildwood the terrain became very wooded and followed the Fraser River Valley. We soon passed by Mc Leese Lake and a sign that advertised RV sites with boat rentals, and I thought wow we could have had a booze cruise had we stayed there! This highway that we are traveling is the Cariboo highway, although not one caribou was to be ... read more

Woke up really early today to a glorious morning. Sky is clear and the weather is warm. Put on a pot of coffee and got on the computer to put in yesterday's blog, only to find the computer was totally screwed up. I think we picked up a virus of some sort. After spending over an hour on the thing, Ray got it to run normal again. Don't know how and don't care. We departed Kaleden at 8:00 sharp and headed north on Rt 97 toward Peachland (guess what they grow there?) This section of highway winds it's way along the west shoreline of Lake Okanagan. I was very hilly with breathtaking views of the lake at every turn. At Peachland, we headed west on Rte 97C, the Coquihalla Connector. This road climbed thousands of feet ... read more

Let me start off today with something that was brought to my attention. One of our readers indicated that they were only seeing a couple of pictures with each blog. There are usually at least 10 pictures published each day. What you need to do is continue scrolling down after reading the day's blog, and you will see a box labeled "additional pictures". Click on this, and you will get the entire day's entries. Also, if you continue scrolling down, you will see where you can input comments. They are always welcomed. Now, on to today's blog. This turned out to be a much longer day than we anticipated. We awoke in Osburn, ID to a gorgeous morning. Clear skies and warm temperatures were very welcomed. After a quick breakfast we departed at 8:00am and started ... read more

We woke up this morning with more snow on the ground than last night. It was quite pretty, but we were all wondering what our drive out of West Yellowstone, Mt. was going to be like. At around 8:00 the five RV's were all lined up and ready to go. Dorrie and Quentin, Sue and Allan, and Tom and Peggy were heading to Great Falls, Mt., and Ray and I along with John and Diane heading towards Missoula, Mt.. Although the roads were snow covered, they were already melting when we left at 8:00 AM. We took Rt. 287 and I must say the scenery along the way was quite beautiful. There were majestic snow covered mountains surrounding many lakes. We drove around Lake Hebgen, about 40 miles north of Yellowstone, and Ray would have like ... read more
