Bartering I think they mostly want goods of value or use. Not sure what fake polo shirts would fetch...You never know I have seen some people in Mozambique wearing some interesting shirts. One kid had a shirt that said "Smile if you're Greek" and another kid had a shirt from the Australian store "Target" that said "Australia's largest toy sale." That Columbian shirt should probably go. Actually I probably could of got a cow horn bottle opener for the 22nd(?) platoon shirt?
How are you still alive? Living on the edge hey Tash. What did you mum say when she read this? There maybe still time to do some shark diving before you get back... you should check it out.
Love it! Hi Tash! Awesome pics Tash!!!! I bet you will never look at a Pringle the same again!.....or a snake for that matter!!!! Very brave of you sleeping in a snake park! Massai's with a mobile?! Now that would have been a bizarre, quirky sight! Stay safe, and lovin' it Babe. See when you get home!!! Miss you!!! xxxxxxxxxxxxx
Thanks! Thanks cuz. It's a bit hard to stay on top of it because I don't see internet that often and sometimes when you do see it, it's impossibly slow or like $10 an hour.
Hope you're well, Tash x
Are you making fun of me? Are you making fun of me David Beaton? We both know you have enough drunken nights for the both of us! I spend most of my time with three other girls and we have had some very interesting discussions with local men. We have been invited to bang some drums on the beach after dark with the local boys in Malawi and one Masai Warrior on the beach in Zanzibar was telling us how he eats lots of pineapple...I'll save the rest for when I come home. Hope you are well. Tash x
Tash, loving the blog. Very detailed. No need for me to ever go to Africa now!
Drunken stories.... Now there hasn't been enough of them yet!!! Don't hold back now, I know there would be a few. Perhaps you've fallen in love with a local tribesman?
From Penn Dave and Kids Hi Darl, Had to write just to say how proud we are of you! It sounds like you have encounted a number of challenges, but you have dealt with them with much insight, maturity, and understanding. Well done!!! Keep enjoying the amazing experience you are a part of! Love you Lots!!! Penn, Dave, Ben, Char and Binky xxxxxxxxx P.S. Love the pics!
Hey Tash!!
What - they lost your bag?? I think you outstripped Kathmandu of all their stock and they wanted it back...Don't worry, it's part and parcel of going on holiday, it happens. Just look on the bright side, you're in an amazing place and will see some amaznig things. Enjoy yourself!! :)
South Africa Adapter I leave South Africa tomorrow so I traded your adapter with a man standing in the middle of the N1 (the main highway) for a blow up spiderman doll. I sleep on it, it's arms and legs cradle my head nicely.
Go Parra!
Hey Glad to see your doing well, but more importantly how is my travel adapter? you havn't lost it yet? I want a proof of life in your next blog!!!
Did alright for you in the tipping maybe you got 2 wrong. Parra won against raiders 30 - 12 :)
Matt
Well Nandos originated in South Africa so it stands to reason that you would recognise it. I would also think that considering your "horror" at the situation here, you would be only too happy to have the World Cup take place in South Africa - to provide monetary spin-offs for the poor; provide a sense of optimism; improve the infrastructure etc.
Despite what your guide told you, there are also an equal number of people (black and white) who are more than confident that everything will be finished come 2010. Living here you have to make a decision: either you succumb to a numb defeatist perception of the country, or you look for the positives (not the same as blind optimism) and appraoch things in this way. I prefer the latter. It's tough living here (and I live in the the dreaded Jhb - which, incidentally, I love) but making a positive contribution is so much more rewarding than bitching about everything and planning one's imminent escape to Perth.
Enjoy your stay and thanks for allowing me my little blurt!
Bye

Shark diving
Tried to do shark diving in Capetown but the water was too rough. Went chasing humpback whales in a speedboat yesterday though!
