Day 22- Drove from Chico, CA to Eureka to see my sister Jessica, boyfriend Jared, and niece Galena. My mom, who only moved up to that area at the beginning of the month, joined us for dinner. Jessica and Jared prepared a glorious BBQ of fresh local Salmon and veggies. We never go to bed hungry when eating with these guys! The weather on the coast was 60 degrees, foggy and cold. Please keep in mind we had previously left the Sacramento of 110 degrees (for the Mower wedding) and Chico of 100 degrees, so coming to the coast was a bit of a shock. As Sven and I dug out our sweatshirts my sister grabbed her sunglasses to go on a walk. Acclimation at its finest. Sven and I convinced my sister's family to join ... read more

Day 21- Preparation for part 2 of our all time awesome summer road trip adventure! Ran more errands, got packed up all over again. Loaded up the car and we due to head north to Eureka, CA to visit more fam. I can't wait to see my niece, Galena!... read more

Day 19- Drove south to Fair Oaks, Ca (Sacramento area) to celebrate our wonderful friends, Dave and Lizzy, getting hitched! It was a hot one, got to be around 110 degrees. Yikes! But it was beautiful and fun to be there with other college friends to share the day with the happy couple. Sven caught the garter and I caught the bouquet. Don't worry, we are not going to run off and get hitched ourselves... At least not anytime soon (be patient). We love you, Dave and Lizzy! Congrats on your happily ever after! Day 20- Checked out of the hotel and found comfort in the heavily air conditioned Roseville Galleria with Irish and Merrit. Had some lunch and took our time to get back to Chico. Spent the evening watching a movie ... read more

Old Faithful!!

Day 14 UPDATE: We tried Rocky Mountain oysters at the bar. (Aka deep fried bull testicles). Can cross that off the random foods list! Also, it just so happens that 80% of people in the state of Wyoming, whether living or visiting, drive a Subaru. Just an observation. Also, while we are recapping, that loud POP on day 1 of our trip turned out to be a beer in the cooler. The cooler was mostly empty except for a few warm beers so it rolled around a tad too much. Day 15- Woke up early again to get an early start on Yellowstone. We quickly packed up our site in the slight rain that had been on and off all night. We watch Old Faithful go off around 9am and spent the ... read more

Day 14- Left our Jenny Lake sanctuary to explore more of the park. We got a campsite on Jackson Lake in Colter Bay for one night before heading into Yellowstone tomorrow. Spent the afternoon kayaking. Found wifi at the resort bar to update the blog :). Word is that there is no cell service/wifi in Yellowstone, so stay tuned!... read more

Day 11- Woke up early to snag a campsite at Jenny Lake in Teton National Park. This campsite is small (~45 sites), tents only, right at the base of the mountains on the lake, BUT it is first-come-first-serve. People get up at 4am to circle around to try to find someone leaving so that they can swoop in on the spot. We slept through our 6:30AM alarm, had to swing past the grocery store, and drive 30minutes and managed to pull into the park about 9AM. Somehow, we nailed a great spot!! One of three available at the time I think. The family before us was still packing up as we claimed it ours and the ranger was really helpful in making sure that no one tried to swoop up our spot. We got settled, set ... read more

Day 10- woke up and headed to the Snake River to go white water rafting! It was absolutely gorgeous and so much fun! After, we decided to go check out Jackson Hole ski resort in Teton Village. We had an early dinner and road the tram up to the top. The view of the Teton mountains from the tram and at the top was amazing. Next, we headed to the Wyoming Rodeo and watched the locals ride bucking broncos, rope the bulls, and barrel races. Later on, we met up with Jeffrey and some of his friends, who play in a jazz band, and watched part of their set at a small club. Where else can you do all of those things in one day!? Definitely a day to remember.... read more

Day 8/Day 9 Day 8- We decided to sleep in today. Ended up going to the Pineview Reservoir near by. The water was a perfect temp for the hot weather (in the 90's). We brought snacks and sandwiches. Nice beach-like type of day. On our way home we took a detour to check out Powder mountain ski resort, another winter family favorite. Heading to Jackson, WY tomorrow. Day 9- Arrived in Jackson to my dad's friend, Jeffrey's, house this afternoon. He is kind enough to put up with us for a few days. Spent the afternoon exploring the town square. My dad insisted that we go for a drink at the famous Cowboy Bar, so we did. A little background, my Dad spent a few years in Jackson in his twenties (with Jeffrey) and has been ... read more

Day 6/Day 7 Day 6- Drove to Eden, got settled in Eden at Aunt Becky and Uncle Chris's Utah house. I iced and elevated my foot and Sven went to get his bike tuned up and was invited to join the bike shop owners for a ride the following day. The weather is warm and the sites are beautiful. Day 7- Sven rode 17.5 miles with 3500 ft of climbing from the house in Eden to the middle peak of Snowbasin... and stumbled across a moose! I drove up to meet him when he was done and we enjoyed the Blues, Brews, and BBQ concert that the resort puts on during summer weekends. For the 2002 Olympic Winter Games, Snowbasin was chosen as the venue for the men's and women's downhill. In the winter, We frequently ... read more
