Susan's Bahia (and surrounds) blog Thanks so much for going to the trouble of blogging. One of my best friends needs clean air, beach, and can't afford the US any more. We saw a very discouraging video by a fellow traveling through Bahia, panning it every which way. I'm going to email your offering right now, which I know will lift her spirits again. She was a top selling artist/painter (in Portland Or.) twenty years ago, and is now so chemically sensitive she can't open a jar of paint without reeling or keeling over. She was so hoping Bahia was an answer till we saw the unfortunate video. So thank you again for counteracting it, and for your beautiful attitude and love for the children and their parents. Nancy Simmons (Portland Or. My friend is apt. sharing in Naples, Fla. and has to be out by Nov. 1st, but may make a quick foray to Bahia to figure out ahead of time where she might land..)
Thanks! Hi Nancy,
I'm glad my post did some service to Bahia - it really is a great place, and so many retirees from the states, Canada and Europe are living here. Everybody says there will be many more coming. I hope your friend will give it a try!

What a wonderful experience Beautifully written blog, Susan. Having had the chance to meet some of your colleagues/Sensi, Mom and I can envision the welcoming feeling you must have felt when you first arrived at the temple. You also say yes to these types of invitations, which shows your openness to new experiences. Kudos to you!!

I am so happy you are safe and far away from all the issues in Japan. Keep safe and come home if things get worse. We love you and miss you here in MA.
Love from Chicago! I was waiting for this update! I'm so glad that you and your parents were okay. I can't imagine how difficult this must be, and I hope you can finish your year if it's safe for you to stay. If you end up having to come back I will personally make you okonomiyaki for a month, or something. But I know that probably wouldn't be the same.
Hang in there, Susan!

Keep up the good work -- this is a great blog entry. Your readers are out here. The photos also really help us to get the full flavor of your experiences. I know you'll enjoy seeing your mom and dad VERY SOON. Have a ball.
Hi,
I love to read your blogs. I especially like seeing my coat in Japan! I feel like part of me is there with you. You are really seeing Japanese culture and a bit of culture from the other JETS' countries.

Hi Susan-
I can see SE Asia has worked its magic on you! It just somehow gets under your skin forever and ever...I lOVE your pics and video, especially the elephant picture. It looks like you had an amazing trip. Thanks for sharing. Oh, and Happy (belated) Birthday!

Stoked!! Susan, the Lewis clan all enjoyed your notes on Holloween in Japan. My lasting memory from trips to Japan are of the people and how friendly and hospitable they all are. One day I left some small change in a juice machine. About 10 minutes later a 7 year old girl pulled my shirt, looked up to me and handed me the change I had left. This gal had to walk several large steps over a few blocks to catch up with me but did so without parents urging or complaint and also refused to accept the change as a small tip. Those are the kinds of experiences you'll be having and trust me that you'll never forget them!!

Part of me can’t believe I’m on the road again and back in the travel blogging business, this time in a new hemisphere. I hope you enjoy reading round two of my global ramblings, based from the coastal town of Bahia de Caraquez, Ecuador. Here, my boyfriend, Keiron, and I are living in his grandmother’s house, where generations of his family grew up, and I’m teaching English at a nearby non-profit school. ... full info
