Sunday 13th Aug Today we decided to go for a drive and find somewhere nice to have a sausage sizzle for lunch. We first headed to Elliott Heads - great swimming beach then drove down to Coral Cove where the town is built around a lovely golf course and found a beach where they go scubba diving just of the beach (I guess that is why the place is called Coral Cove!!!!!). Then drove further on along the beach and spotted a lovely park just out of Coral Cove with BBQ's but they both had big crowds using them so we just took out our portable BBQ and set it up near a table over looking the ocean and had our sausage sizzle. It was a little windy and cool but the sausages were just great. ... read more

Thursday 11th August Today we decided to visit the Botanic Gardens which included the Hinkler Aviation Museum and Fairymead House. The Hinkler Museum was just amazing - Bert Hinkler was born in Bundaberg and was interested in flying from a very early age. He built (in his parents shed) and flew his first glider (on a Bundaberg beach) just a couple of years after the Wright Brothers did their first flight. In 1928 he flew solo from England to Bundaberg, which took 15 days. John is in the photo of a replica of the plane he did this flight in. He was a very clever man inventing many things but unfortunatley he died in a plane crash in 1933 aged 40yrs. I don't think we realise how many very clever pioneers we had in this country. ... read more

Friday 5th August Today we went to the movies to see the movie "Red Dog" - a movie about a red Kelpie who adopted the town of Dampier and it's people and united the town. The movie made us think of Robby Dog (Geoff's dog who now has gone to heaven). It is a good aussie movie with a lot of laugh's and a few tears. We then had lunch at the "Brothers Club" - the meals at these clubs are very good value for money. A main meal for around $10 each, of course they have a huge poker machine room - it looked like a Las Vagas room with all the sparkling lights everywhere and there were quite a few people playing the machines and of course this helps pay for the cheap meals. ... read more

Saturday 30th July Had another great night at the carvan park with a sing a long with the words to songs on a big screen. One of the owners of the park, Brendon, with his daughter and wife helped with some of the singing. It was a little cool again so everyone only stayed until about 7.30 then back to the vans to get warm. Sunday 31st July Headed to Childers to check out the Multicultural festival and to see the pub John's brother Bill used to own. It was the Grand Hotel in the main street of Childers and now it is all trendy with a new front bar and polished floors etc and a trendy beer garden out the back - Bill would be very surprised. We stayed at this pub when we did ... read more

Tuesday 26th July Arrived in Bundaberg booking into the Glenlodge Caravan Park - 1 wk $189 (TT dis 18.90 - $170.10), spent the afternoon settling in. This park is a little out of town but the most friendliest welcome to a caravan park we have received since we started travelling - it is owned and run by a family. We have a site down one end of the park backing onto a fence which means we do not have anyone parked behind us so we have a huge lawned area for our own use. Wednesday - checked out the layout of Bundaberg - quite a big and busy town - drove out to Bargara which is a beach side town (about 10klms from Bundaberg) - very nice but looks very upmarket. The caravan park in Bargara ... read more

Monday 25th July This morning was very cold and misty (-1), the photos show the mist over the dam. But as the day unfolded it was actually quite warm and just beautiful. We headed into Kingaroy, called into the Information Centre and checked out the interesting museum about the peanut industry in the area. We did not know how peanuts were grown so it was very informative. The peanuts grow very well in the soil from the volcano from the Bunya Ranges (the soil is very red where it has been ploughed). So then we had to visit the Peanut Van and do a taste test which meant we had to buy 3 different bags of peanuts (Yum). We had lunch at the local RSL club which was very nice but not as cheap as we ... read more

Sunday 24th July We have decided that it is too cold in Towoomba to stay and find work so we are heading towards Bundaberg and hope that being closer to the coast and a little further north the weather will be a little warmer. We have found a lovely bush caravan park in Murgon (just out of Kingaroy - Bjelke-Petersen country) Barambah Bush Caravan Park $24pn. This park is set on 60acres of natural bush and is just lovely, with a large dam and lots of walking paths. We visitied Bjelke-Petersen dam, which was very pretty with lots of bird life and fishing is also allowed. We drove over the dam wall to the other side. When we went for a walk at the caravan park I took a great reflection photo over the dam just ... read more

Saturday 24th July Friday was shopping day - checked out the city and found all the major shopping centres including Myer. We booked an extra day so we could check out Rudds Pub in Tooth St, Nobby (yes it is a real street and town!!!!!). About 1/2 an hours drive from Toowoomba - crossed a lot of small creeks where we could see a lot of repair work after the January floods - we could imagine it would not take very much for these small creeks to flood so most of these roads would have been impassable. The township of Nobby was named after a railway worker whose nick name was Nobby, he married and lived in the town in the early days (don't know how Tooth St was named). We had lunch in the room ... read more

Tuesday 19th July Went for a drive around the tourist drive and Toowoomba is a very pretty place, there are a lot of very beautiful old queenslanders in the centre of town, then we came across Queens park and they have just set it all out with flowing plants ready for spring and their flower festival. We could imagine how it would look when it is all in flower. Then we spotted a tree in a cage and throught there had to be something special about this tree and found out it was a Wollemi Pine which is a very ancient and rare pine tree discovered in 1994 in NSW. Wednesday 20th July John's birthday today, he received a lot of phone calls wishing him a happy birthday which he was very gratefull for. We decided ... read more

Saturday 16th July Woke up this morning to rain, it had lightly rained all night and the hard ground around the caravan had turned into a mud patch. Very messy packing up but headed off to Toowoomba. "Ken" our navigator took us right through the middle of a very busy town centre of Toowoomba but we found the Top Tourist Caravan Park and booked in for a week. ($167.40 for a week with TT disc). The park looks very nice and neat and right on a main road into town. Sunday 17th July Went for a walk up the road and found nearly any food outlets you could wish for with in walking distance as well as a large shopping centre (K Mart) and even an Aldi store. There is a lovey creek and park at ... read more
