We are Sue & John Barker and just starting our travels around Australia - starting from Gidgegannup (which we have sold) and will return to the property we bought in Mahogany Creek.
When we left we headed north to see our son and his family in Geraldton then headed to Exmouth where we spent a wonderful couple of months with our grandchildren, their parents and some of the most beautiful scenery we have ever seen, the most pristine, the most beautiful beaches and the spectalular Humpback Whales frollicking with their young around the Exmouth Gulf.
When the weather started getting too hot and windy for us we headed down to Geraldton to spend Xmas with Brett and his family, we finished up staying there for about 12 months after purchasing a house, we have now rented out this house and have started our travels to the eastern states.

Oceania » Australia » Western Australia » Nullarbor Plain March 28th 2012

Wed 28th Mar - up early for our long drive today - estimated about 614klms - not looking forward to this drive but there is nothing much to see along this stretch of the Nullarbor so just headed off. Went through the Quarantine Checkpoint at the Border Village and then we were in WA, nearly home!!!!!Checked out some of the Golf links at some of the petrol stops. Booked a night at the Fraser Range Station CP ($30pn). Very nice little park - used to be a working sheep station but now just seems to be a caravan park and 1 hole on the Nullarbor Links Golf Course (the World's Longest Golf Course). Tom and Rosemary were up early as they were heading to Esperance for lunch but we took our time and decided to check ... read more

Oceania » Australia » South Australia » Ceduna March 26th 2012

Mon 26th Mar - stayed for one night at Ceduna to do some shopping and get ready for our trip across the Nullarbor. Tom (with Rosemary) the chap who was traveling with us heading back to WA was very keen to travel long distances and we had to slow him down as we did not look forward to the long days driving. He still managed to get us to drive two long days after we left Ceduna. Our first day was 440klms which for us is quite a long day driving. We called into all the lookouts where we took photos of the cliffs of the Great Australian Bight, even though we have seen these before they are still amazing scenery. Where we stayed that night more than made up for the long drive. We were ... read more

Oceania » Australia » South Australia » Eyre Peninsula » Elliston March 24th 2012

Elliston Sat 24 Mar - just a short drive today - 101klms - The Elliston caravan park is a lovely little caravan park (owner manager - when ever the owner is the manager we have found the park is run very well and this was no exception). We had planned to only stay over night but it was so nice we stayed an extra day. Did the Little Bay Cliff Top Drive and saw some amazing scenery over the cliff's and ocean. The next day we went for the Anxious Bay Clifftop drive and again saw some more amazing scenery. Again it was hard to just add a few photos of these drives (sorry there is so many but it was all just so beautiful). We were watching some surfers out in the ocean and then ... read more

Oceania » Australia » South Australia » Coffin Bay March 23rd 2012

Fri 23 Mar - Coffin Bay - Booked into Coffin Bay CP ($28pn) for a night as the weather was still not that flash and again Barry and Paulette booked a site for us near them - it was great to catch up with them again. The couple we had met at Dundedoo - Tom and Rosemary - also booked into the same park and just happened to be on the site in between us both. Barry & Paulette were our tour guides and took us for a lovely drive into Coffin Bay National Park. The views over the ocean were just amazing - I had trouble choosing just a few to add to the blog. (well maybe more than a few).... read more

Oceania » Australia » South Australia » Port Lincoln March 20th 2012

Tue 20 Mar - Port Lincoln - Headed to North Shields Caravan Park - (booked in for 3 nights $28 pn) about 7 klms north of Port Lincoln. Met up with our friends Barry and Paulette, they saved a site right next to them. A great spot backing onto the ocean - just a shame the weather was a little windy and cold as you can see by the black clouds . They took us for a tour around Port Lincoln to see the sights. Quite a nice place just not as spectacular as we thought it would be.... read more

Oceania » Australia » South Australia » Peterborough March 17th 2012

Peterborough - Saturday 17 Mar - After safetly leaving Broken Hill and crossing the border into SA and passing through Cockburn (just on the SA side of the border) where the bridge was damaged during the last flood - the temporary road was in good order, we headed to Peterborough ($25pn) to stay for a couple of days to get some washing and cleaning done after all the mud from Broken Hill. We did a tour around town and checked out the Miniture Museum which we thought might be a little boring but what an amazing display of miniture vehicles of all sorts but mainly stage coaches, wagons etc. The couple who made the models and did the tour were just amazing. We checked out the display first, which was amazing, then we went into the ... read more

Oceania » Australia » New South Wales » Cobar March 13th 2012

During our time at Allworth we thought about our plans and decided it was time to start heading home. Most of the state of NSW was flooded so we did not have many options as to which way we would travel and the only main roads which were, at this stage, flood free was going through Broken Hill though we were a little worried about some of the roads around Broken Hill. Tues 13 Mar - Our first night stop was Dunedoo, a lovely little town and a cheap Caravan Park ($20n). Checked out the pub with no beer but great food (so they said on the sign outside) and the other choice of toilet at the caravan park with the sign saying 'will this dunny doo'. At the caravan park met Tom and Rosemary and ... read more

Oceania » Australia » New South Wales » Newcastle March 7th 2012

I have had problems with the travel blog page but all now seems to be fixed and we have already arrived home in WA but will carry on with the blog so everyone can catch up with where we have been on our travels home. Taree - we left Coffs Harbour and stayed the first night at a lovely little caravan park in Taree which was right on the Dawson River - it was very high with flood water - then onto Allworth (1 hour north of Newcastle) to stay with John's niece and her family for a while - the day we arrived it had been raining for quite a few days and was still raining when we arrived. They had a spot set up for us on the block just outside the back of ... read more

Oceania » Australia » New South Wales » Coffs Harbour March 2nd 2012

Had some repairs carried out on the car in Ballina and the replacement part was making a rattling noise so had to take the car into a gas repairer here in Coffs - first he put a new part in then realised it was the wrong one so had to wait for another replacement finished up staying for 2 weeks while waiting for the second replacement. Did the Mutton Bird Island walk with the amazing views over Coffs (very windy though). Checked out the Forest Sky Pier up at Bruxner Park in the hills backing onto Coffs Harbour - a very winding road which went up a hill for about 6klms and there were many banana farms all the way up this winding hill. The views from the Pier were amazing as was the Pier itself. ... read more

Oceania » Australia » New South Wales » Dorrigo February 26th 2012

Sunday 26th Feb - Headed inland to visit Dorrigo - went through Bellingen which had a great main street with a lot of very old interesting buildings. The drive through this mountain range was just beautiful with rolling hills and lovely healthy looking cows grazing and then a beautiful rain forest. On the drive up we stopped and looked at the Newell falls which went under the road. Checked out the Dangar Falls then onto the Dorrigo National Park. Did the 5.8 klm walk through the beautiful rain forest and visited the Tristian Falls then the beautiful Crystal Shower Falls which was amazing - we are very lucky at the moment because of all the rain NSW has had over the summer which means all the falls are flowing very well. All the east coast has ... read more
