Monday, 12th January, 2009. We went to the reception area at eight thirty and ordered some drinks and coffee. We connected to the internet and updated the blog. After this we went for a short stroll in the vicinity. We bought some pastries and went back the hotel. The town was quiet. We ate the pastries when we got back and then retired for the evening. Tuesday, 13th January, 2009. A bright start to the day, a little cloudy and windy. Pat went down for breakfast and for a change I joined her after a little while, I had bacon and eggs, Pat just had some rolls. We decided to walk along the front and walked up to the Marina, which is about tqo kilometers to make a guess. We went into the Marina and had ... read more

Sunday, 11th January, 2009, continued. Spoke to our families this morning. All is well at home, apparently pretty cold and a heavy frost last night. We settled in one of the bars and the ship left at three o'clock. As we left Piraeus and went out to sea, we could see a large number of various types of vessels, that were just anchored. I had seen something recently about the global economy having an effect on Greek Shipping and that ships were currently laid up, so I assume these were they. The ship's wireless internet service time was purchased through the tills and it didn't seem to be working. I noticed when I had a look at wireless network, that the provider was the same as on Anek Lines and I had a little time left, ... read more

Saturday, 10th January, 2009, continued. We left the cabin just before nine and wandered down to the Restaurant, the ship sailed at about this time. We had the following, a four colour salad as a starter, which was carrot, white and red cabbage, and lettuce. Then a special of the day, swordfish steak, and a pork fillet. Pat's meal arrived with brussel sprouts, much to her displeasure, she dislikes them with a passion. I ate them and they were lovely. The plates were cleared and we were given a complimentary dessert, which was made from honey, and the waiter said it was called something like klevida (?). Also some Raki, which I declined. Then we decided to share a dessert and had like a tort on a sponge base, sprinkled with nuts . This was also ... read more

Friday, 9th January, 2009, continued We relaxed for a while, and changed to go out for a walk and some dinner. There was a Chinese restaurant just round the corner, so this was our choice for tonight. We had meal for two, changed a couple of items, and had the following, a chicken noodle and chicken sweetcorn soup, spring rolls, sweet and sour pork balls, chicken in mushroom sauce, szeuchan beef and fried rice. With drinks €41.40. Pat likes the coffee place, Livingroom, so we had a coffee, and did some people watching for a while, then popped to the supermarket and back to the hotel. I forgot to mention a couple of the places we visited in Chania earlier today, one was a Greek Orthodox church in the town centre. We had a quick look ... read more

Thursday, 8th January, 2009. A bright sunny morning. I took some pictures from the balcony as it looked so nice. Need to think about what we are doing today. On another subject, the travelblog holds various information about how often it is viewed and all that sort of stuff. As at this morning, our travelblog has now been viewed on 1919 occasions. We decided to spend some time looking around Rethymno. So we left the hotel about ten and went for a coffee first at the Livingroom. We then wandered the town looking in the shops, we bought some pastries at a shop for our breakfast. There are some differing architectural styles, the Venetians were here, as well as the Turks, who left their mark and a few minnaretts. We went up to the Fortezza Fortress ... read more

Wednesday continued We went out about seven thirty, the intention being to wander round the town and have something to eat. I had thought that a lot of the shops would still be open, but there was less than I expected. We ended up in a bar on the seafront called La Bamba. We had a couple of Gin & Tonic's and Coke lights. While there we had a long discussion about our possible travel plans and our short and long term future. We have both come to the conclusion and agreement that we don't have any problems not living in the UK any longer. This raised a lot of questions about our house and so on. We have to do further research with some of the thoughts we had and when we have done that, ... read more

Sunday, 4th January, 2009. A cloudy, but bright start to the day. We managed to sit out for a while enjoying the weather. Pat cooked the chicken sausages, with some baked beans for our lunch. We left the villa about one o'clock and took a walk along the beach, watching the sea. We stopped at Gecko, and whilst there updated the blog and caught up with our emails. We checked the premium bonds website, and we have won another £50,00, hooray. Following this we popped into Status and played pool. When we left we walked back along the beach, and returned to the villa at five thirty. We snacked on various things in te fridge, conscious of finishing things, as time runs out on our time in this location. Monday, 5th January, 2009. Some clouds, but ... read more

Sunday, 28th December, 2008. We drove down to the town just after twelve and popped into Gecko Bar to say hello. Whilst there we updated the blog. We had arranged that we would watch the Liverpool versus Newcastle football match at Status. Jonnie supports Liverpool and Steve supports Newcastle. Liverpool sadly won 5 - 1. It rained again during the afternoon, and we left the bar shortly after the game finished. We popped into the supermarket on the way back, for a few bits and pieces. Pat then cooked the Bolognaise, made the other day, with some pasta and a Greek Salad. Monday, 29th December, 2008. Very windy overnight. We took a walk into town just before twelve. Pat wanted to see if we could get some of her Asthma medicine. It is available only on ... read more

Thursday, 18th December, 2008 We had another very slow start to the day and both read for most of the morning. The weather was very grey and overcast and rained much later in the day. It is still confusing, because it is still so warm though. We made a move to the town at two forty five. Our plan was to visit The Gecko Bar and update the blog. The bar was very welcoming and we chatted about our travels and so on. A group a people came in celebrating a 40th birthday, and we left about five o'clock. Pat heated up the bolognaise and cooked some pasta, followed by some fruit. Friday, 19th December, 2008. The weather was again really nice and we both read and sunbathed in the earlier part of the day. Pat ... read more

Sunday, 14th December, 2008. Another slow start to the day. We phoned my Mum and Dad and Pat's Mum, the weather at home is gloomy. Nothing else particularly to report. We had our usual snack lunch. We went for a walk at two and headed for the Harbour area we hadn't got to last week. We took a look at the new housing development built just a little way along. A lot of the houses seem finished on the outside, they have individual - small - swimming pools and BBQ's built in. The weather was pleasant and I was wearing T-Shirt and shorts. The harbour area leads round to a headland overlooking the next beach and the remains of a Roman villa on the top of the headland. We walked back through the town and did ... read more
