They picked us up at Heathrow and drove us through some beautiful English countryside, past the homes of many famous folks (Beatles' George Harrison, Wham's George Michael, and Spice Girls' Geri Halliwell). They all obviously made themselves a nice living. But then so did our friends. They took us to the new home they are building on 2.5 acres on the Thames River. It's in a little town called Streatley, about 12 miles from Reading and not far from Oxford. The town, the home and the setting ... read more

Because we redeemed AA frequent flier miles for business class tickets, our schedule was a bit convoluted and our travels were long and arduous. We departed Friday afternoon and arrived at Arusha, Tanzania mid-Sunday. 43 hours of travel. Yikes. There we met up with a college friend and bridesmaid (Anne Leverone, St. Paul, MN) and a colleague from Maryville and Maritz (Barcy Fox of Lexington, MA) and jo... read more

Geo: 38.5578, -90.6457September 10-23, 2007 DAY ONE (9/10)-KENTUCKY LAKEWe loaded our new SUV to the gills and headed out about 7:30 am.  We drove east on I-64, south on I-57, south again on I-24 through Illinois to the Kentucky Visitors Center (Whitehead) in Paducah. We continued south to exit #31, one of four exits for Kentucky Lake, a large TVA dam that regulates the flow of water from the Tennessee River into the Ohio. We drove a section of the Trail Road that heads south in the Land between the Lakes (i.e., Kentucky and Barclay). We took something marked "scenic drive" in the Kentucky Lake National Forest.  Nothing was boring; but nothing was exceptionally scenic. We met Bonita Bay friends Linda and Max McDade, of Fulton, TN, at Kentucky Dam Village Resort Hotel for lunch overlooking the lake. ... read more
