Breakfast was a classic B & B feast. No idea what we had. It was explained but too hard to remember sorry ! We had breakfast at 8.30am sharp with a couple from Conway, Arkansas and chatted with them for a while. They were staying in the adjoining carriage house so we actually had the whole B & B building to ourselves. The owners of this place have had it since 1993 and their granddaughter was serving us today. She said the place has been on the market for US $1.2M for 5 years which I reckon is a bargain for something that has such historical value and is ranked in USA top 10 B & B by some magazines. They bought the place for $150,000- and it needed a massive restoration to be done. I ... read more

Had Special K fruit edition for breakfast and managed to get away at 8.30am today. One thing Kerry noticed this morning was that another guest was wearing a t-shirt that we thought would be a good idea for Luke to have. It had a slogan on the back saying “What’s for dinner ?” and that is exactly his first three words every day when he gets home from work ! A quick refill at the gas station and we were back on I30 heading East. One thing about this area is the size of the overpass system. The interchanges are just massive and enable traffic to flow effectively across the city as long as you remember to take the right exit of course ! Our first stop was unplanned. It was a small town called Hope. ... read more

Small breakfast and headed off around 9am. Decided to use Google Maps today instead of Mr. Tom Tom as I have been having trouble seeing screen in bright sunshine which was how our day started. However there would be two problems in the first 15 minutes. Firstly I took the wrong exit on the freeway as the instructions were different to read than what I was used to using Mr. Tom Tom and secondly the vent bracket we bought on the cheap at Walmart fell off ono the centre console whilst I was driving which did not help. We battled on regardless as the good thing about all these devices is the ability to re-route and get back on track. We went through Arlington which is where the Dallas Cowboys Stadium is located about half way ... read more

The day started quite late for me. Kerry went down for breakfast but I was quite tired so had an extra 30 minutes lay in. I let Kerry choose todays agenda and she suggested we go to the Amon Carter Arts Museum which was about 10 minute drive away in the Arts precinct and then go to the Cowgirl Museum not far away, then grab some lunch and head over to the Stockyard’s District in the afternoon and spend the evening over there. It was quite cool as predicted when we left and the wind was chilly but not as bad as we expected it might be. Quite cloudy with possible rain in the air. We went to the Art Museum first and they had a lot of the area dedicate to two artists who focused ... read more

A late night as I tried to remove some of the bird poop from the Camry. Lesson learned as follows : “Do not park overnight under trees again !” The shortest route to Fort Worth is via I35 North about 4.5 hours but I googled last night to see if there was a scenic route and straight away I read about an alternative route that added maybe 30 extra minutes mostly driving on Highway 281 via the Hill Country regions. We went passed Johnson City which has a population of only 1656 but famous as the home town of President Lyndon B Johnson (LBJ). First stop was Blue Bonnet café in Marble Falls which was about 90 minutes from San Antonio. We stopped here and we both had a malt milkshake which was more like a ... read more

Up around 8am and had a light breakfast downstairs today as we ate so much yesterday we have committed to doing things differently today (we’ll see !). When we opened the curtains it looked pretty dreary outside with grey skies and misty rain showers. We decided to plan on being inside a bit today in case it rains. First stop was Rivercentre Mall as we wanted to see the documentary about the Alamo at the IMAX Theatre, and then after that go to The Alamo site once we knew the full story. Decided to get the E-Bus trolley which is free. We walked down to Market Street to the bus stop and waited for about 10 minutes, nothing coming so asked a bus driver who was going on a different route and he said, “look its ... read more

Today we leave Houston and head due West to San Antonio. Google Maps wanted to head right into downtown Houston before heading west and that made no sense in peak hour so we skirted around the city trying to avoid freeways and tolls and the traffic. Achieved this well although we still drove on major roads, eventually got to I10 West and headed toward San Antonio about a 4 hour trip. We decided to take a break after a few hours so pulled off the Interstate into a sleepy old town called Flatonia. What a weird place. It was so sleepy nothing was even open so we got back on the main road. We saw lot of signs for a place called Buc-ees which had a sign with a beaver. This roadhouse was massive ! It ... read more

Breakfast was jam on toast, yoghurt and muffin with orange juice. Well today is why we came to Houston. We are off to visit NASA headquarters. We had booked the NASA Level 9 VIP Tour which was hosted by David Cisco who was an excellent story teller. We booked this months ago and it is pretty hard to get in. We had 12 people in our group (they only run about 7 tours per week all with a maximum of 12), a family of 5 from Belgium, a family of 4 from Canada, us and a sole American from Florida. Tour started at 10.45am and the first stop on the 12 seater minivan was the Neutral Buoyancy Lab (where they have a 6.5 million gallons pool tank if my memory serves me right !). This is ... read more

Up at 8.30am and finally a day where we can take things a little slower as we are staying here for 3 nights. Breakfast was pretty crowded and we had simple things like jam on toast, muffins, OJ. Kerry tried the Hot Chocolate but it was not hot enough for her liking ! We were thinking of going to the adjoining Baybrook Mall Shopping Centre as Kerry was keen to go to Macy’s but it’s Easter Sunday and closed. Hence plan B was enacted and we will go instead to Houston Zoo which is about 30 minutes away in Downtown Houston. Parking was fun ! We drove around the block a few times and as there was lots of picnic gardens nearby where everyone was having an Easter Sunday cookout there was no parking anywhere. We ... read more

I thought the 4 poster bed we had in Savannah was high but last night we outdid that. In fact on Kerry’s side of the bed there was a two step ladder specifically placed to climb up into bed. Two other interesting facts. Firstly there was no ladder on my side and secondly the ladder on Kerry’s side was on the way to the bathroom so I had to remember that I case I need to go to the bathroom. At around 2am I was in a daze as I stubbed my big toe walking into it ! You know that feeling where the pain is excruciating and you now the only thing that helps I screaming out loud looking for attention. Well at 2am I had to hold that all inside and hat was pretty ... read more
