On the road again
Good to see that you are out exploring again. Looking forward to your next blog.

We are jealous
We'd love to be retired and exploring as you do. We live vicariously through you. The atlas does sound like a great investment. Please at the Reno balloon race to your list some day.

retired
Thanks. I'm so glad that I didn't wait to retire but did so the first moment I could. I've never regretted that decision ! : )

What's the current mileage on your truck? Have you had your engine rebuilt? What about your transmission? I am amazed at the durability of your truck! My Nissan truck has only 98,000 miles but I feel more comfortable renting when I do long drives, probably because I worry too much about road breakdowns as I am not mechanically inclined.

truck
If your truck only has 98,000 miles it's just getting broken in. A truck that is taken care of with regular oil changes and lube's etc. should last over 200,000 miles. There is a lot of fear mongering out there aimed at persuading people to trade in and get another vehicle. I do have problems from time to time but the cost of repairs after seeking out a good mechanic using reviews is much less than the cost of a truck payment , full coverage insurance, interest on a loan etc. My GMC truck currently has 340,000 miles on it and I am leaving tomorrow on another trip into the mountains of New Mexico and Colorado and will probably add a few thousand more to that.

Colorado Balloon Festival
I didn't know about that and will make plans to get there! Thanks for clueing me in.
17th September 2013

balloon fest
There is the biggest balloon fest of all going on in Albuquerque the first week of October. The Sandia Resorts casino which is across the Interstate from the balloon fiesta allows Self Contained RV's to use a section of their parking lot. I will be using their parking lot to overnight park while I attend the balloon fest.

Getting Back Home
Glad you made it home ok--no heat stroke or other problems. I will think of you while I am still in "cool" Colorado. It's only supposed to be 101 on Tues!

Colorado Balloon Classic
Since you are still in Colorado you may find the Colorado Balloon Classics in Colorado Springs next weekend to be interesting. http://www.balloonclassic.com/#sthash.Tu00dxlK.dpb

Texas in the distance

On and on !
Great. William , now I have seen Texas ...do I really need to go for real?

Texas in the distance

Just don't go in August
Absolutely...Texas is like a whole other country as they say, just be sure to go in December or January when the weather is cool and comfortable....and go to San Antonio. West Texas is desert like but once you get to San Antonio and eastward it is beautiful... just too hot in summer. December and January have beautiful weather except for an occasional cool front coming in for a day or two, then it warms up again. Generally I spend my summers in Europe or the mountain states or some where else cool. Hopefully I haven't painted too negative a picture of Texas. It is really a great place most of the year, but the summers are brutally hot and humid.

And the road goes on forever
I always like those photos

You certainly covered the state...
but I thought you were going to head north to Wyoming and Montana at some point. You returned home too soon if the temperature is 108 in the shade. Anyway, it was great to meet you...and I could understand your Texas accent.

Going back
That was the original plan which was after exploring Colorado I would head north up through Wyoming and Montana and into Canada. However Colorado had so much to see and do that it took me 2 1/2 months to just briefly see things. I will be going back to western central Colorado probably mid September maybe using Montrose or Ridgeway as a home base, at least that's the plan. I want to explore the area at leisure this time. At this stage in my life I make my plans in pencil, leaving room for opportunities I come along on the way. After 2 1/2 months away I just wanted to go home for a bit even if it was the worst month of the year to be in Texas.

Never been to Telluride
I've heard it is beautiful, but didn't hear it was expensive. I still want to go there one of these days, so am happy to hear there are some forest campgrounds nearby. I have been to Ouray and it is one of my favorite spots in Colorado. The drive from Ouray to Durango over Red Mountain Pass is one of my favorites for beauty. I have driven through Pagosa Springs and stopped at a bakery there, getting one of the best sandwiches I've ever eaten. I plan to go back there one of these days also. Safe driving!!

West Central Colorado
Yes.....having traveled all over Colorado I have settled on the area within a 50 mile radius of Montrose- Ridgway as my favorite area. I intend to return there again before the snow gets too bad. I read that Ouray can get snowed in in winter.

Did the Glyfada trip
Hi. I Lived and worked in Glyfada around 1985/87 and worked at Bobby's bar.. I revisited in 2004 and was very disappointed with Glyfada in general...

Glyfada
Yes....I was disappointed with how much Glyfada had become developed. I much preferred the slower pace back in 1974.

Ouray
I"ve been through Ouray a few times in the mid 70's (when it was nothing of a town) Even though it has grown up I'd like to go back there a stay for a few days. The burger looked good.

Ouray
Yes Ouray is quite nice as all the surrounding area.

Coloado
The Redstone General Store is cute. Loved the movie True Grit--now those were movies.

Redstone
Yes, I am glad I read about Redstone from a fellow travel blogger's blog. It was well worth visiting.

The Redstone General Store

Been there.
Good to see that you got some good weather after the floods... a pity the hot springs were full of kids!! It is just so beautiful down by the Crystal River. And isn't that General Store so quaint. You are making me wish I was back in the US.

Hot Springs
Yes it was too bad the hot springs were full of kids and families. I will probably go back there again in October when there is snow in the surrounding mountains and family vacations are over. I also intend to revisit Strawberry Hot Springs north of Steamboat Springs which to my mind is one of the nicest hot springs in Colorado.
