Shona Travels the World

It's 2016 and this blog is so out of date! I've had many amazing trips since I started this blog over 5 years ago, that I need to spend some time updating it.

I live in Sydney Australia, so there will also be some day trip information from home.

Day 7 In Newzealand - Te Anau to Dunedin This morning we travelled from Te Anau to Dunedin. We had the choice of several things to do in the afternoon, and I chose to go on the train ride up the Taieri Gorge. After dinner, a couple of us wandered around the city taking night photos. ... read more

We had several optional tours to do this afternoon, and I decided to go on the train to Pukerangi. It was wall worth it and I'd recommend it to anyone that likes trains, valleys and vistas. Dunedin Station is such an amazing station! There was even a piper on the platform. We went through the following areas: Dunedin Station Mosgiel North Taieri Mt Allan Hindon Arthurs Knob Pukerangi ... read more

Te Anau Leaving Te Anau, it was a crisp clear morning, and unfortunately, I missed the sunrise over the lake - I'll have to remember to get up early next time I'm here! Te Anau to Gore The views were the usual spectacular views I had come to know and love. Gore We stopped off in windy Gore for a morning tea stop, and I went for a quick wander around the town. We then continued along the Clinton Highway to Dunedin... read more

We continued along the foggy highway towards Milford Sound Foreshore Walk Lu, our tour director, gave us the option of walking in the drizzle along the foreshore as we were early for our cruise, and I figured why not, so I joined the group and we enjoyed a nice walk in the rain. Cruising We boarded the Monarch and cruised the sound. It was raining, windy and cold, but I had my rain jacket and spent a lot of time out the back of the boat. At one point I did get rather drowned though! It was great to see the sound in this weather, as it was quite different from my 2013 trip.... read more

Te Anau Milford Rd, and the Milford Sound Hwy Leaving Mirror Lakes, we continued along the Te Anau Milford Road and the Milford Sound Highway. As you can see, the weather was pretty wet, but that just make the waterfalls even better! Monkey Creek We had a stop at Monkey Creek to check out the views. Milford Sound Highway We continued along the highway, and through the Homer Tunnel. This country was avalanche territory, so we didn't stop, but I loved the views! The Chasm And stopped at The Chasm. The water here was running so fast it was so loud! We also saw the endangered and destructive Kea bird. We continued in the direction of Milford Sound ... read more

Queenstown Getting up this morning I went for a quick wander around the hotel to get my last views of the mountains around the city - it really reminds me of Vancouver with the mountain backdrop. Kingston to Te Anau The scenery along the road was pretty spectacular Te Anau We stopped here for lunch, and to drop our bags at the hotel, as we were coming back tonight. It was a cute village. Mirror Lakes We then headed towards Milford Sound, stopping at Mirror Lakes. ... read more

We got picked up from the hotel and got the bus down to the wharf, where we had a group photo taken. We then got on the TSS Earnslaw and headed across Lake Wakatipu to Walter Peak Station. It was a very windy trip, and the mountains looked great! Dinner was a buffet with all sorts of food, and after dinner, we had a cattle dog show.... read more

Queenstown Gondola Last time I was in Queenstown, I went up the gondola, so I decided it was something I would have to do again. Gondola Base Station On the gondola Skyline Top Station Kiwi Park I went to the Kiwi Park when I came down from the Skyline, hoping to take some photos of a kiwi, but unfortunately I didn't realise they are nocturnal and you can't take photos. I did get to see one once my eyes adjusted to the lack of light in the enclosure. Wharf I then found myself at the wharf. Botanical Gardens I headed towards the botanical gardens, and walked around the headland. It was very windy, and it was biting. It was also making whitecaps on the lake.... read more
