I remember reading a story about a man who climbed Everest........he said when he finally got to the top he looked around and because of exhaustion and lack of oxygen he had the mental capacity of a mentally challenged third grader. There was no celebration, or feeling of achievement, he just thought "wow, I'm here". I guess I felt similar when we finally landed after flying all night. I was wanting a 'Walter Mitty' moment, but The reality was greasy hair, an upset stomach from bad airplane food, and a sour disposition (mean as a snake). We made friends with a nice older man who was traveling solo, so we invited him to the Blue Lagoon and offered him a ride to the big city ( don't make me type what I can't pronounce). We picked ... read more

I'm not actually there yet.....just getting the ball rolling. I'm still in Oklahoma City about to take off to the airport. I'm full of nerves, and I'm seeing that this gets harder as I get older. I have reservations, I have money, my dad is going with me, nothing to be afraid of. It's hard to believe I took off 10 years ago to Europe for 4 months with a budget of $20 dollars per day to eat and SLEEP on. I had one reservation for the first night. Just one. My lot in life is much better now. And the reason for Iceland, I have to admit, is because I watched the movie 'Secret Life of Walter Mitty' one really late night.....and the hair trigger that I have for inspiration got pulled, and there's no ... read more

It's gotten stranger out here since I spent the evening as a living pork-chop. I'll sum up the past 48-hours for the folks who are busy at work, and want to know if this post is worth their while: 1. I got felt-up by an old lady. 2. I slept in the same place Leo slept. 3. I punched a rat in the stomach.....I think. 4. I swam at night in the ocean and the plankton glowed. 5. I was held up by a monkey. These are cold, hard facts. 1. I decided that all the wine and grappa therapy was canceled out by the pork-chop incident, so I decided it would be in my best interest to get a $4 dollar massage. There was a spa connected to my hostel, and it looked nice. I ... read more

Get back home little daddy, your will is a little too strong All you wanted was to ride in the saddle, but you did it with the Amazons It's alright, Daddy, oh, you better get back home... Many have tried, and many have died, riding with the Amazons So it was a rough day, and this is how it went..... I took my seat on the plane, and right when I sat down an English man sat down beside me. He was in his 30's and friendly, and we struck up a conversation. Normal travel talk like where have you been....how was that.....where are you going.....are you on holiday.........where are you from......talk about the weather there.......the normal stuff. Against the monk's teaching, somewhere towards the end of the ride my mind started working and I became ... read more

It is my last day in Bangkok for a while, because in a few hours I'm taking the big silver bird to the Southern Islands......oh beach, how I need you! I bought a black 50's vintage bathing suit, and I can't wait to sport it among the bronze-bikini-wearing-Aussies. So, I went to Thai cooking school.....it was probably the best thing I've done thus far. I met a sweet Kiwi named Genevieve, and were able to sight-see together the next day. Nusi, the master, took us to the market and explained every variation of ginger, chili, garlic, and every other spice imaginable. We cooked 6 dishes. When I get home, I'll cook for anyone who will have me! I recorded several of his lectures and will post them when I get home because I can't describe how ... read more

I was in low moral for my first day, it wasn't a bad day, but I was adjusting, so give me grace. To sum it up, it's hot as balls here and with all the open/raw food laying about it's an olfactory nightmare. This is how it was......My bunk-mate, Robin, and I hit the town together. I was SO relieved to have someone to venture out with. After my early morning wake up I walked a block away to the 7-11 and I felt like a little mouse that ventured out of it's nest and ran right back. Praise the Lord for Robin! I couldn't have left my hostel without her, because I didn't know what was 'out there'. We went to some markets and got an awesome Thai massage for $2 dollars......Thai massage is quite ... read more

HOLY SHEET, I thought I would never make it........ But I did. I suppose I will start from the beginning. I sobbed into my in-flight pillow in OKC and cried out to God "I don't want to die". Shameful, yes. However, you can breathe a sigh of relief because that was the worst it got. One must cross the abyss with fear and trembling.....or however the saying goes. Once I was in Korean Air's hands I was doing quite well. The plane was the nicest I had ever been on and the bathroom felt like a mini-spa with lotions and water misters. I hung out there a lot on my first 14-hour flight. I have to give them credit for keeping me fed, but oh, how my stomach hurts from too much Korean airplane beef and ... read more

The Jitters Well, I'm doing my last load of laundry, nervous, anxious, excited. I'm not looking forward to the 24 hour travel time ahead of me. Luckly, a dear friend of mine hooked me up with a few Ambien to easy the pain. My goal is to try to update daily with uncensored, unsugar-coated travel experiences. Comments and encouragements are greatly appreciated. Love to all, Amy... read more
