Hahndorf to Lyndoch Lach visited Hahndor'f leathersmith this morning to get a tailor made leather pouch for his old bowie knife - many thanks to John and Sam who went out of their way to help, even giving a brief history of the blade. While in the store, lach overheard some tourists talking about the Big Rocking Horse nearby - so we decided to check it out over lunch. We put in just a little more diesel at Hahndorf Mobil (26.3L @151.9c/L). Gumeracha Toy factory was located right next to the 3 storey rocking horse, which had travel direction poles nearby (one national, one international) displaying the distances to other locations. Inside the toy factory was a very cute 4-wheel drive and caravan, as well as the type of truck Sheree thinks Col should look into ... read more

Robe to Hahndorf Woke up early to the normal sound of rain hitting the fibreglass roof (this does not seem an unusual so far in this trip). We packed the camper and explored the town of Robe before hitting the road to Kingston SE - with large side-sweeping winds which we were soon to face head-on dampening our efforts at fuel economy! We fueled up at BP (Kingston) - 53.75L @ 151.9c/L Noticed a large lobster there at Kingston, if it wasn't breakfast time I'm sure Lach would have defoured the seafood there! The boring drive to Meningie was uneventful - with the occasional salt lake and vast acreage of land uninhabitable for most species. Lach asked 'How long till Woods Well?' - I replied 'you blinked & missed it!' We crossed the oldest bridge ... read more

Mount Clay State Forest to Robe Another very dark showery night, so we waited until the rain subsided a little to pack up the camper and head on our way. We set off for Portland, winding through one of many wind farms in the region, and ended up at Cape Nelson Lighthouse -which we could barely see the red roof through the misty rain and sea spray. Petrified Forest at Cape Bridgewater wast vastly different from the green and leafy state forest where we had rested last night. Back in Portland before leaving the SA/VIC border, we dropped in to the fauna park to consume our last pieces of fruit and veg. A couple of cheeky emus devoured our last apple cores and a small bunch of grapes we were unable to fit in! There were ... read more

Princetown to Mount Clay State Forest This morning we awoke to a beautiful sunrise after a very showery night. We headed to Gibson Steps along the scenic Great Ocean Road, where we could admire an apostle or two in a new light (or slightly less overcast anyway!). The sand at the bottom of the steps was surprisingly soft, but still no comparison with whitehaven beach! The Twelve Apostles seemed to reveal such beautiful changes of colour within the rock. On our drive west we could not resist checking out 'Cheese World' just south of Warrnambool - just happened to get there in time for taste testing. We're thinking the vintage cheddar block we bought might not last long. We fuelled up at APCO (Warrnambool) 51.42L @ 146.9c/L. On our visit to Port Fairy Wharf we saw ... read more

Cumberland River to Princetown Camping Reserve Early morning rise for a flyfish before checkout, no such luck - plenty of eels in the creek and a few well fed trout that wouldn't take any fly Lach presented to them! Cumberland River was magnificent - beautiful crystal clear stream, with a huge rock wall backdrop. Check out the pics! We decided to head back to Lorne, where we stopped at Teddy's Lookout which gave great views over Lorne and the Great Ocean Road. Had a quick look around Lorne, then headed to Erskine Falls for a 10 minute bushwalk to an amazing part of Victoria. Headed back west on the Great Ocean Road through Apollo Bay- stopping for lunch, and on to Princetown Camping Reserve where we stopped for the night (only $15 unpowered site 6km from ... read more

Jerilderie to Cumberland River Hi guys, thought we would start a blog since we have a few months of touring around Australia - it's a bit easier for you to follow where we are and what we're up to! We started our trip 0km on Trip A odometer, departing the farm at Jerilderie after filling the Triton with diesel. Had a late start, so made our way through Shepparton and down the highway, bypassing Melbourne towards the Great Ocean Road - and the start of our Australian Adventure! We fueled up at Little River (near Werribee) where price was 147.9c/L, and continued on our way where we stopped at Aireys Inlet for a look at Split Point Lighthouse. With all intentions on staying the night at Lorne, our wallets just weren't fat enough for the $50 ... read more
