Stampede day had arrived and we had woken nice and early to get a head start but before we go to stampede we went to the farmers market just east of the stampede grounds. There were lots of fruits, veges and some food stalls too. We bought an éclair and browsed the stalls. Looks like a good place to come to when we get our own kitchen. We headed to the stampede and found we had arrived at the Stampede early (10am) so we had a wander around while some of the stalls were setting up and got to see some of the behind the scenes action as they washed and dried some of the animals to be displayed. At 11am the grounds were all up and running. The first stop for us was the BMO ... read more

Today is the day the Stampede starts, 10 days of horses, cowboy hats and YEE HA-ing!! We were told if you want good seats for the parade you need to get down there early. So we woke early and walked to the C-Train, the trains were packed, we had to wait for the second train because we couldn't fit in the first. We made it onto the train with squished standing room only and arrived downtown. Downtown was also very busy and it was hard to find good seats as some people had been waiting nearly all night to keep their seats. We found an area where most people were sitting down and there was a step to stand on so we could get a good view. We got down to the parade at 7.45 but ... read more

After our first night in Calgary the next day we went exploring the city, we caught the C-Train to town, checked out some malls and basically got ourselves familiar with the area around where we were staying. One of the malls we visited had a movie theatre in it so we went to see Snow White and the Huntsman, it was a great movie, the movie screen was huge and so was the popcorn and drink, Amanda had to use two hands to have a drink, it was so big. It was relaxing to chill out and watch the movie. The next day Amanda went to where she is going to work and met some of the people she will be working with. The transport system in Calgary is great, you can catch the C-Train to, ... read more

We survived a 17hr ride on the Greyhound Bus from Vancouver to Calgary. On the bus trip we got to see the spectacular Rocky Mountains even though we missed a lot of sights on the way because we kept falling asleep (Jet lag?). We did manage to be awake when we passed a Mountain Goat hanging out in the middle of the road, a Wolf gazing across the river and some Grizzly Bears having a feed on the side of the road. We didn’t see much of the bears as we flew past everyone scream Grizzly Bears and jumped out of their seats. No matter how fast we got the camera ready it was always to slow to get snaps of all the animals. When we stopped in Banff we also saw an Elk grazing on ... read more

17th June 2012 - Getting ready to go to Canada. Today is the day we leave New Zealand for Canada. After a big rush the night before we are glad just to make it to the airport, it was good having lots of friends and family around to see us off. The plane trip to Auckland was fun and a lot quicker with Rosie there. We arrived in Auckland and waited for check in for our international flight. After 6 ½ hours, KFC twice, arcade games, a hundred laps of the airport and the worlds craziest massage chairs that poked you in places you don’t want to be poked, we said goodbye to Rosie and were off through to international departures. We checked in and boarded the aeroplane to begin our flight. The flight was good ... read more

The next day we woke, checked out of our hotel and we wandering (with our bags), we walked over the Harbour Bridge, had breakfast at a cafe on the other side, Had a look at Lunar Park from the outside, didn't have time to go in and then caught the train to the airport. Once at the airport excitement kicked in again.. first time in a plane! We got another stamp in our passports (EXCITING). We spent a lot of time at the airport, Amanda likes to be early. We got on the plane, Amanda was a little nervous but very excited, the plane started to move, that was a new feeling then all of a sudden there was this really loud motor noise and we were off it was so exhilarating Amanda loved it the ... read more

The next day we went and explored around Darling Harbour, we went to the Maritime Museum and walked through a ship, a submarine and an old wooden ship. We also went to the Powerhouse Museum which was interesting, Amanda tried to ride a penny-farthing which was impossible with her short legs, and there was a clock that was amazing so we waited and watched the demonstration and hearing all about it. We found the Chinese Gardens which we looked through and had some Chinese Tea and Sweets. We went to the Wildlife Park and saw a Koala, Kangaroo, Snakes and heaps more. WE TOUCHED A SNAKE!!... read more

Woke up early to watch the ship arrive in Sydney Was awesome watching all the lights appear we had another ship coming in behind us to. When we went under the Sydney Harbour Bridge, it looked like we were going to hit it. We watched all the bags getting loaded off the ship while we waited for our turn to disembark. And then we were in Australia! We got to do the exciting stuff again, go through customs, get our first stamp in our passports (EXCITING) collect our bags and we were off, we walked to our hotel which wasn't too far away but somehow we walked in a circle right around it and it wasn't until someone stopped to ask what we were looking for that we found it. We had a lot planned for ... read more

Oceans and Seas February 15th 2012

Set a wakeup call last night to wake us up at 6am to go out and watch the sunrise. It was beautiful. Had some breakfast in the buffet and went back to our room. We were pretty knackered so had a nap. After a quick snooze I went down to Connections Bar to the dingbat puzzle and left Shane to nap some more. I then went for a look around the shops and found some scrapbooking pages and stickers and some more souvenirs. At noon I went back to the Connections Bar for a detox and health seminar which was really good. We had hoped to go to a salsa lesson but Shane was still sleeping and the health and detox seminar went longer than expected. We then got some lunch and went relaxing on Deck ... read more

Oceans and Seas February 14th 2012

Woke up this morning and it was a beautiful day went to the buffet for breakfast and for an early morning swim in the pool - freezing cold but went for it and enjoyed it. Then off to bingo where we played our ghetto ticket together (haha) No luck there though. One lady yelled bingo when she didn't have it and had to do the birdie dance in front of everyone. Went to lunch in the buffet watched the marriage match game show in the Marquee it was really entertaining and funny, had a relax on Deck 9 out the back really enjoy relaxing out there its peaceful. Watched the end of the paper plane competition (got there too late to enter) then off to the live comedy debate. Went back to our cabin and got ... read more
