I love reading about your adventure Hi Sandra, I have loved reading about your travels. Baby Max is here he was born March 26th 9lbs 221/2 in. He is a god baby and looks like me. Miss you Love, Melissa
Hi Sandra! I'm happy that you are detoxed and are having a good time! I'm glad you are coming home to visit for awhile. My mom and I were talking about you this weekend. We were talking about how adventurous and brave you are, and about the spiritual learnings that you are experiencing over there. :) I miss you and can't wait to see you and hear more about your journey!!! XOXO
whoa sandra, that is disgusting... I hope you're feeling better... sick. Remember the time you ate too many skittles and mom said, "you're gonna get sick"... and sho'nuff you did... gross. what does the doc say about skin and keeping yourself ageless? does he recommend pearl cream? haha... hey if you try to call me... it's turned off... my purse got stolen... i am a victim of identity theft... yes, at my own place of employment. so ghetto. i love you.
diet I'm sure indigenous herbal remedies are valid to a point, but long-term diets may leave your fragile imune system incapable of fighting the bacteria, viruses, and possible parasites you have been exposed to. You were just seriously ill, you may feel well now, but your white blood cells, and other disease fighting agents are likely depleted. What may work for native Indians may not work for foreigners, who don't have the pre-existing anitbodies to cope. Traditional medicine asumes that the treated person is from that region, has been breast-fed by their mother, and thereby has evolutionary advantages that you simply don't have. I have no idea what diet has been suggested, but if it is void of proteins, and fats, or seems unbalanced in any way, please be wary. Sorry to preach western medicine, I'm just concerned. Much love and best wishes. So glad to see you writing again!
P.S. A rasta guy I worked with went on a week long diet of water w/ honey, cayenne, and some herbal ingredients for the purpose of detoxing. He was really hard to deal with over those days... irrationably irritable (i.e. asshole).
self Sandra, I so enjoyed our phone conversation. It was so good to have heard your voice. I wish I had been there to take care of you...you know that nurse thing I do. I have seen people coming back in =to the states who have travelers diarrhea. For years when I traveled to Mexico I took 1 PeptoBismol chewable tablet a day. It really worked.
AS for the herbal's they just make me stop and think huh!!!
My thought ...if it is working and not addictive then kepp it up. Just continue to feel better.
I say Brian, Ellen, Tra, and Ryan Thursday the 29th of March. Yes I drank several pink things. Everyone is good and send their best and thoughts. Love ya I will call thuis Sunday, Mama B
Hey Sandra! I'm glad you are feeling better. How much weight have you lost throughout this disentery bout?
I'm sipping on hot honey water this morning. Ask if I can add a tea bag to my honey water and still lose weight. Does this water replace food in the morning? Also ask what herbs to use as a female aphrodisiac-hehehe. My dad is having a hard time controlling high blood pressure- what does the Dr. suggest he do?
diet explanation Never say die! Oops.
There's a more thorough explanation (or story, depending on your view) of that diet at the link below. I tried it one day with olive oil, and it seemed to work on the hunger aspect. Just remember to take your vitamins and start eating food again if your ribs break the skin--sheesh!

(to avoid the link filter replace x's with t's, duh)
So glad that you're ok. I'm so glad to hear that the situation with getting medical attention when you need it is good. Solie dog says if she was there, she would lay with you and bite that doctor.
You Go Girl Hi Sandra,
This reminds me of Amy's first month in Mumbai. We were absolutely worried sick but she finally made it and now seems to be okay. Of course she has 7 months now and I guess that helps. I think it took her about a month to get over the bad stuff. So hang in there.
Stick it! I, for one, am very proud of you for going through the sickness and telling the "doctor" to stick it. You gotta go with your gut ... which I'm glad is working for you again.
Wow. Thanks, Sandra. I think you should make a movie when you get home about women in India. I'm really glad you got to spend at least a little time with them. I bet you made their year.
To "Anonymous" Just to further explain... the guest house would not allow me to pay the "doctor" either. They'd never seen him or heard of his name or clinic. They didn't believe he was a real doctor either. And every practising physician should be able to show some kind of identification...how about maybe even the letterhead of what he writes his prescription on? It's not like I was asking him to show me his medical degree. Further more in India many men say they are licensed doctors when they are not. Maybe you are just more trusting then I am but hey that's your perogative isn't it? I trust that I did what was neccesary in my situation.
:) I'm beyond happy to suppose that you are ok. Are you? Are you afraid of future bouts? Your illness must have been terrifying, and conjured fearful emotion. Yet you seem cool, calm, and collected. Are you really this tough? Regardless, your bravery continues to astound, and draw appreciation, and love.
First of all you ask a doctor to make a house call, when he comes up u ask for all his certificates as though he is going to carry it around with him/her to please you. Not done lady. Trust me the hotels won't be calling in quacks to treat you, if you are dead it would be a lot of bother for the hotels with the cops and all. And quacks dont come armed with syringes here, they just bring some pills or pastes or powders.
And all this for the pittance you would end up paying them and complaining about it loudly too.
hill stations Heya Sandra,
I always look forward to your adventures and your fantastic descriptive writing on your blog! My mother has always told me that the hill stations are amazing -- Ive seen photographs and films -- but to see it in person and see a solar eclipse as well! Wow! It sounds like the heavens are smiling down upon you. Well wishes and hugs to you across the atlantic!
So glad you're having an amazing time! I bet you'll be a different person when you come home. South by Southwest just finished up here, and I know Ellen and I are beat. Some meditation is just what the doctor ordered. I want to know more about the Indian women. Do they seem happy? Obedient? Strong? I'm so curious! Take care of yourself!
wow... I finally got to read all of your entries. You are such a good writer that I felt like I was right there with you. I wish I was. I miss you and can't wait to hear about more of your adventures. Take a dip in The G for me, k?
Tell more later....for now I'm a girl off to travel the world in January....looking to go to India, Africa, Asia, and New Zealand...basically as far as my money will get me.
In case you were wondering Sevreni means to embrace in Czech...
