coooooool Yay for almost seeing a cat :) Have you ridden a horse? Or been wrestling in a funny hat?
If you have time at the end of our trip you should fly from Tokyo to Hawaii. there's heaps of birds, at the national parks they even give you bird spotting guides....sadly I spilt juice on mine within about 30 seconds so I can only say I saw a red one and a yellow one. And a Nene, they're an endangered goose. As an added bonus, the birds are so used to loud Americans they didn't even care that I'm noisey.
are horses for riding? I thought they were for eating? When you say you saw a red bird and a yellow bird, was that because the juice you spilt was tomato and orange juice? How big was the yellow one because Big Bird is yellow.
boat prices At luangbajo a week ago they wanted 800 US for a speed boat to Komodo Island.........has the world gone totally mad?
We ended up paying 550 between the 4 of us.....felt a bit useless to someone that is used to seeing huge monitor lizzards anyhow.......if it wasn't for the yellow-crested cockatoos I'd give it a miss......
Yep, you do look like a serial killer. Actually it's because you're tall. I had some clients in who had been there and said the same thing about being stared at.
You should have done Gangam style dancing on public transport. That would have made the locals love you...like when Americans do the haka.
women I once traveled around the world on a cruise ship (working in the kitchen)......I easily concluded that South Korea was the least likable place I visited where I couldn't find a single good looking female......hope it was better for you?
temperate region Hi there,,,
Nice to see you are traveling again.
This time of year is not good for temperate regions unless you are in a migratory wader fly way.
Best time is May/June when birds breed. Still, if you are happy with resident birds and treasure each one for its uniqueness you can have plenty of fun!
Good look with Stellar's Eagles!
Thank you! Doing research on native fauna of New Caledonia for an Illustration project and this photo is absolutely invaluable to me. Thank you so much for sharing!
You are a bit behind the times This has been and gone and gosh you didn't get to see inside you really missed the point altogether it isn't always about money. Love and light and humour.
the NZ dotterel has two really disjunct populations, which are possibly actually two separate species: one breeds on beaches in the North Island and one breeds on mountain tops on Stewart Island. The southern one is much much rarer than the North Island one (which is rare too, just not as much!)
numbat I was fortunate to see the Numbat on my last visit there a few years ago. Actually, even my wife and two kids saw it from the car. I didn't even know of this animal but its nicely colored fur stood out.
memories Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful story. Great moments of joy for you.
I really liked that area and remember sitting in my jacuzzi sipping wine while watching my cold breath under the starry night........
I live in New Zealand. I started this blog when going on a 2006 trip through southeast Asia for three months to see the wildlife. Since then I've been on more trips through NZ, Fiji, New Caledonia, Australia and back to Asia a few times looking for animals. Anyone who is not interested in animals and who thinks nature is a waste of space shouldn't be reading this blog. Go back to your bars and your temples and your massage parlours; the kind of birds I'm contemplating would not excite you. ... full info
