EARLY START Got up at 5am, that’s right FIVE, to get ready for our early morning pickup. Drove for 2 hours to Gansbaai for cage diving with Great White Sharks. In our van there was a couple from New York, a girl from Eindhoven and a guy from Croatia. Didn’t find all this out till later when we all woke up a bit! It was freezing cold and road was covered in fog most of the way. It was a really windy road, lots of 'U' bends through all the mountains, any motorbike riders out there would have a ball riding it! But as for us, we were waaay to sleepy to really truly appreciate it… We got to the lodge that the diving company operates from and there was a light but hot breaky waiting ... read more

THE SUN SHINES AGAIN…. Had a much better sleep, ended up getting an extra blanket, so now toasty warm. Still both waking up at 3am, body clock saying it’s 9am still! Got up early to walk to V & A Waterfront to go on the Robben Island tour, but when we got there it was cancelled again because of rough seas (we didn’t care about rough seas. we’d already taken Kwells so we were good to go…), rebooked again for Monday - 3 times lucky hopefully hey! But the day is a great day, sun is shining and it is so much warmer. SIGNAL HILL We caught a taxi to Signal Hill and had lunch up there, there were some Turkey looking birds that were brave enough to take some bread from my hands - I’m ... read more

TIME TO EXPLORE Woke up to winter again but it started to clear up by mid morning, well the rain stopped anyway! Went downstairs to the lounge and cranked the air conditioner up to a respectable 28 degrees, was considering bringing my pillow and luggage down and moving in here until… two staff (presumably management of the hotel) decide to have a meeting with a couple of people in OUR lounge, walked in and turned the heater down to an almost arctic 24 degrees! When we turned the tv up so we could hear it over their talking, they talked louder, so we gave up, let them have their win and went out in search of lunch. Went to a place called Manhattan’s. Good food, a little dearer than the other place we’d been eating but ... read more

WINTER IS HERE Woke up at 2am, FREEZING!!!! Will have to buy some fleecy pyjamas, not traditional honeymoon attire but... Got up at 7:30am to howling winds. Phoned Robben Island as we were meant to go there at 9am and all tours have been cancelled until at least Saturday! We were meant to be going on our shark dive tomorrow so phoned them as well and has been postponed until Sunday. Seems like there is a pattern, Tim proposed on a windy wintery day, we got married on a windy day and the start of our honeymoon is windy and wintery… Let this be a lesson to all you folk thinking about following in our footsteps, propose when it’s sunny!!!! The hotel put on a pretty good spread for breaky, even had porridge! Although our Robben ... read more

MORE PLANES AND AIRPORTS Flight to Johannesburg was long but good. Managed to fall asleep before the end of Shutter Island, Big Bang Theory, Invictus, Top Gear and Two & a Half Men! Had to do a bit of an Amazing race bolt through the airport to get our bags, go through Customs and then check in for our connecting flight to Cape Town, but made it about 10 minutes before boarding. Funniest thing was when we found where to check in there were 2 counters staffed and one of the girls was sound asleep. She woke up long enough to realise she didn’t have to serve us and promptly went back to sleep, haha, I want her job! Cape Town airport was kinda how I expected it. Lots of people offering to carry your bags, ... read more

STARTING OUT Tim's Mum and Trav drove us to the airport where we caught up with Heather and Sharon at the check-in counter. There was a mix up with our ticket numbers, eventually the good people at Cathay Pacific sorted it out so we could at least get as far as Cape Town without any more hassles, fingers crossed it was a one of.... But they sweetened the moment by giving us 4 seats to ourselves :) Got to love Australian Airport security. Took belt off, had to go back through and take bangles off, back through again to take boots off - FINALLY got through, got dressed again and then had to get frisked, only in Australia! Boarded flight, realised I've been on budget airlines too much when my excitement peaked at all the things ... read more
