Stuck in Costa Rica I have gotten some feedback from people due to my comments about Costa Rica. I have lived in 3rd world countries and Costa Rica can certainly find a place in that category. If your thinking about buying land, retiement etc. Think about Nicaragua, Venezuela, Paraguay, Colombia or Brazil. You'll get more value for your money! Less likelihood of getting ripped off by your Costa Rican Attorney. I spend five years in the French Foreign Legion, I served in Bosnia-Chad-Ivory Coast. As a US Marine, I served in S. Vietnam-Nicaragua-Egypt; so I've seen some seriously bad places. The trouble with Costa Ricans, they love the americans money, but they don't want the americans. I have lived in favelas in Brazil, and have never had a problem.....nor in anyother country. Here in Costa Rica on three different ocassions, I've had to motivate ¨ticos¨who have tried to attack me. All three times they got the severe short end of the stick....one gentleman ended up prematurely in a cementary. So don't try and convince me that Costa Rica is a five star country, and has nice people.
First of all Costa Rica is not a 3rd world country. Maybe you should head to one of those to see what 3rd world is really like. It is a beautiful country with beautiful people so I am not sure what you are seeing or experiencing. Have you ever traveled internationaly before this? Yes, there is corruption but that is pretty common in other countries particularly latin american countries. We have the same in the US it is just more hidden. Sorry that you can't get a good job but it is for good reason. The country protects their own. Good jobs are going to go to Costa Rican citizens. This is why they make it difficult to work there. It is not different than someone from Mexico trying to get a job in the US. Sounds like you need to live in another location rather than bash this one. I dream of being able to live in Costa Rica but I don't do so because I know I can't make a living there. Maybe when I reach retirement.
I've always been adventurous person: spent some time in the US Marines/70-78. Some training work in Nicaragua w/ Sandanistas, some time in Le Legion Etrangere/French Foreign Legion/81-86 & Executive Security in Venezuela & Colombia. Just traveling the world to see where it leads me(Allah Akbar) will continue thru South America & hoping to get back to Rabat, Morrocco. Currently(22Apr07) in Medellin, Colombia. Though I've lived in Costa Rica for the last two years with my wife Yuni, who's from Valledupar, Colombia. I don't really like Costa Rica(think it's a 3rd world country) but I'm there(for ... full info
