Thunder Bay I am new to reading blogs and just happenend across your post...yes that is what NW Ontario is all about unpredictable weather and if you aren't use to the bush/wilderness it certainly can play headgames with you. I wished I would have seen this when you were here, at least I could have offerred you some suggesitons, taken you to the local coffee shop and then set you on the right course for the West. I hope the rest of your journey is great...and just to let you know yours will be the 1st blog I have EVER subscribed to. All the best and safe travels
The Bison I'm glad you won that showdown with the bison. The alternative would have been nasty, especially for the bicycle. I couldn't view some of your photos for some reason.
Arm Chair Travelling Hey Arie,
I am glad that your trip is working out so well and that you are still in one piece. The pictures look great and I can't help but feel a little envious of the freedom and sense of peace such a solitary journey must provide.
Be careful out there and keep up the blogging.
Nicky
I was waiting for that. The problem was i was on the road for 8:30, chances are service was at 10:30. And i felt so grimmy it would have been uncomfortable. It was a brand new building so there was no sign for a service start. Under different circumstances i would have stayed.
rock on awesome pics, arie. looks/sounds like a great trip. not to mention a good workout.
don't get any skinnier, dude. there won't be anything left.
you're in my prayers,
thomas
Should have gone to church If you had stuck around for church that morning I bet somebody would had you over for lunch. And then after you told them what you were doing over lunch they would offered a shower and maybe even a bed for the night and they wouldn't have even asked for 15 bucks.
01 july 2011 happy Canada day, arie! [and anyone else reading this].
hope you had a great day of [ha ha]. enjoy the journey, dude.
ours is a wonderful country.
thank you Am so enjoying your blog, Arie! Sorry hitchhiking isn't working out the way you had hoped. Saw your map -- holy, how many miles long is this journey!? take good care.
the "here i am" tent hi arie. glad to see your adventure is [safely] under way. but for a guy who's trying to keep a low profile could you have picked a louder tent? bright yellow and orange kinda screams "here i am".
anyway, thanks for keeping us up to date on the journey, and sorry you bottomed out on the hitch hiking. ironically, the friendliest people on your trip seem to have been the first nations folk. though historically [and sometimes presently] treated poorly by the white man. sadly, our supposed "own kind" don't seem too willing to extend the hand of friendship and hospitality. speaks volumes of the Native spirit.
anyway, soldier on, brutha. you're in our prayers.
I hate biographies. This blog is meant to keep in touch with immediate family (so my mom can sleep at night knowing where I am). And the very very small hand full of people that would be considered friends. Either you know me or you don't. So I don't feel any reason to say anything about myself. That being said if there is something you want to know, ask and maybe I will tell.
