Thanks for the information. Cambodia and Vietnam are on my list of places I want to go, so this is a good preview of what I can expect of the border crossing. :)

Glad you enjoyed it;-)
your blog just proves how differently we view places.... we hated this 'supposed to be' farm-stay....must be the only place I still complain about when I speak to other travelers;-) Just people put us off to be precise but the Park itself was stunning;-) hope you find more of these places on your way!!! happy travels, Beata

We're all different ;-)
And every place is experienced different from person to person and changes with time. To us it was a great place to be with great friendly and helpful staff, we enjoyed every bit of it. We never thought it would be an actual farm we would stay at so the name never confused us in any way. To us the place gave us exactly what we expected, maybe a bit more. We are only saying how we feel about places, every one must make up their own minds

I feel your pain!!!
Went there a few weeks ago! What a horrible place, never again! If you haven't already left that neck of the woods, take a trek down to Ke Ga and La Gi. There are very few tourists to contend with down that way :)

Thanks!
Well, we left as soon as we had enough energy, and even though we got your comment a bit late, driving around the Mekong Delta has more than made up for Mui Ne. :)

Languages
This is great and I wish you well. What advice would you give me and my wife regarding learning a new language? What is the best approach given our background below. As part of the ex British Empire, there was never an emphasis on learing a foreign language although I did take French in school. My wife and I travel extensively and would love to speak French and Spanish, at least, fluently. there are so many advertised programs for learning but I am interested in what your advice for us would be.

Language experts?
Boy, have we become experts? We are mostly just lucky and have grown up polylingual. Although Sadie has learned all the Scandinavian languages recently. But to be honest, there is no easy recipe. Hard work, constant headaches, and forcing yourself to try and speak, think, read and listen to as much of the language as you can. Being in a country where people only speak that language (like in South America, or even Spain, or, let's admit it, France), helps a lot. It's painful and frustrating in the beginning, and then the fun begins :) I would say you can get a pretty good hold of a language in 4-6 months, depending on how much of an ear you have for it and how hard you are willing to push your tired brain ;)

Glad you enjoyed Dalat!
I went to school there from 1956 to 1964. I remember climbing (racing) up the mountain you described which didn't have any road at the time. I returned to Dalat in 2009 with my son and we took the Russian jeep up. As for coffee, we were told that Vietnam is now the second largest exporter of coffee in the world.
