Under the Cairo Sun I think this is my favorite blog - mainly because of the the pictures - sooo fun to see you and your friends and the views of the city from the park are really wonderful - a completely different and beautiful perspective of the city.
Hey Kim, thanks! Mom told me about that- she said that she had a really nice time with you guys. I hope you got the blueberry muffin recipe in time :) Take care!
Wow! Hi Lauren,
This is amazing! I am sure enjoying hearing about your adventures from your Mom. She fixed a lovely birthday dinner for Beth and I last night and we had a great time together. Enjoy each minute of your time abroad....it will go quickly. Take care and keep safe.
Camels You enjoyed riding the camel? I rode one when I went to Africa last month and it wasn't to comfty. I wouldn't ride it across the desert-but then again-you bike. I can't wait for you to come home. Enjoy it...it sounds like you are!
Hey Jason! So there's this guy on campus that looks SO MUCH LIKE YOU, except he's littler, and nervous-looking. Every time I see him I'm like, "Ah! WTF is Jason doing in Egypt?!? Oh...it's Little Nervous Jason."
Fantastic Blog Hey Lauren,
Great blog, regarding the "creaps", think of them as a pine plank and give them one of your Taekwon-do moves "eeeh-yaaaw", done deal. Or I can put Sam on a flight tomorrow, maybe Brian.
Awesome Adventures, Love Dad
hey in a lot of ways Cairo sounds like a lot of laces in china, the way you describe the dusty feel of the city, the haze and all that, but the culture sounds so different, I can't imagine getting harassed for the clothes you're wearing, or not being able to walk alone at night. It sounds so interesting.
my chinese professor once told me just before I was about to go off to china that at some point, after a few weeks, or months, every person who studies abroad gets into some level of depression. the culture shock, lack of familiar things, at some point hopelessness hits. but he also says that it passes, it's just a thresh hold you have to get to and surpass. when I hit it I ate nothing but Mc Donald's for 2 weeks and spent all my time looking at old pictures from camp on facebook...
I'm checking this sight regularly. can't wait to see whats next, when do your classes start?
Welcome to Cairo! Hi Lauren: Love the blog. Glad to hear that you arrived safely and are getting organized. Don't worry about making friends, you are irrresistable! Jet lag is the worst, but will be over soon. I am sure that Cairo will reveal its charm soon. It's a great adventure - enjoy! Linda
Glad you made it Hey,
Glad to hear you made it in one piece. It seems like only yesterday we were in classes togehter, and now you are half way around the world. I wish you nothing but great adventures, and life changing experienceses. To bad you can't go out at night, but it is always better to be safe than sorry. Don't worry about not fitting in right away. I am sure your bubbly personality will intoxicate those around you, and you will be at the center of a clic of friends you will always remember fondly. It is funny to me that you didn't know what the desert does to the buildings in it. Having grown up in the desert it just seems like second nature to me. Enjoy every minute of your adventure, because things like this don't happen everyday. Peace and Love Jason.
