Until I leave to Singapore

Until I arrive back home

Who am I?

Swedish guy studying at Uppsala University. Former unicycler, expecting lots of interesting things to happen in Singapore

What's the next adventure?

I will leave for Singapore in late July and stay there for exchange studies at National Universtiy of Singarpore, and it'll be awesome!

What was the last adventure?

I did the Camino de Santiago the unconventional way. On unicycle. I met a lot of interesting people, and I would recommend everyone to do the Camino, with either one, two or even zero wheels!

Europe » Spain » Galicia » Santiago de Compostela June 28th 2011

Finally in Santiago! I woke up in a little more posh albergue in Arco do Pino and started out quite late. Among other big groups, I passed a school class who seemed to enjoy it quite a bit. The morning was cloudy, for the first time in maybe two weeks, which was a pity. On the other hand, it was so chilly that heat was no problem for the first time. Before noon, I thought I would go to Monte de Gozo, 5 km from Santiago, and stay the night there, but when I had sat down for a couple of hours seeing pilgrims passing by, I couldn't stand waiting and did the last 5 km in a real rush. It was nice to get there, but it was no real finish. The finish will be ... read more

Europe » Spain » Galicia » La Coruña » La Coruña June 27th 2011

I haven't done any updates for a while now, so there is quite a lot to say. I've conquered O Cebreiro, the last big mountain on the route, and by accident (sort of), I overtook another mountain when there was a pass-by route. It was nice too though. I had plans of going on a nightly tour just the other day, but the tube got punctured once again, so I thought it was a good idea to stay the night at an albergue as usual. I haven't had to step off many times, only during the toughest ascents, which get fewer and fewer for every 10km by now. In total, there are not very many kilometers left. Less than 40, which I will probably split in two days. Today, until now, I've done maybe 30 kilometers, ... read more

Europe » Spain » Castile & León » Molinaseca June 23rd 2011

Just finished a nice dinner at the hostel with a Danish girl and a German man, involving nice discussions, mostly about language and geography, which often is expected. This was sort of the award of the first mountain in almost 250km of flat riding. Climbing from 850 to 1500 metres above sea level and afterwards rolling down to 580 m was today´s journey, something like 45 km today also. The mountain wasn´t really equally difficult as expected, but in a couple of days, I will apparently reach a much harder ascent where it is said to be almost impossible to take the walking route with mountainbike, so I will probably take the asphalt road there. The day started out very nicely, I met a Swedish guy almost before the peak who was very nice, so I ... read more

Europe » Spain » Castile & León » León June 21st 2011

Yesterday evening I met a number of people at the albergue. Two guys from Taiwan, two from the UK, two girls from Finland and a couple from Canada. Everyone was around 20, which is not very common along the camino, so it was nice for a change not always having to deal with people who are more than double my age. From Sahagún to Léon was almost exclusively like the picture on the side. Plain straight roads, flanked with trees. I knew that this was what it would be this flat from Castrojeriz to Léon, and I do enjoy it. I have been able to do a couple of more kilometers a day during the flat stages in order to be in no hurry during the later uphill stages. ... read more

Europe » Spain » Castile & León June 20th 2011

Yesterday I really had time to rest. I arrived at 13.00 and had nothing else to do than to eat some food and take a short walk after the dinner. Dinner in a small kitchen with an Englishman who wouldn't tell me his name (for unknown reason), but spoke French very well, and two French girls. As the stores were closed, they kindly let me have some of their food, and I let them have a bite of my Morcilla del Burgos which I got from the Bike-repair guy. This morning I woke up well rested at 5.30 and left at 6.00. The first few kilometers was an ascent of 12% and 1000 meters, which apparently was possible to climb with the 125mm cranks. Then flat, flat, flat ground, for a really long distance. Gravel, roads ... read more

Europe » Spain » Castile & León » Castrojeriz June 19th 2011

One cannot be lucky always. I woke up this morning very well rested, I had bought earplugs which fitted incredibly snugly, so I couldn't hear anything. Too bad I wanted to wake up in time to get going, because when I woke up, almost all beds around me were empty, even though it was just 6.45 in the morning. Camino-people are early birds. However, when I got down to the bike stand, i saw that the tube was totally out of air. After a while of pondering the alternatives, I came across with a guy who apparently had been partying all night. He knew very little english, but we understood each other enough for him to lend me his garage, and give me a bike repair kit (which I hadn't brought myself... stupid me), help me ... read more

Europe » Spain » Castile & León » Burgos June 18th 2011

I can't believe I made 75 km today, from Grañon to Burgos. It didn't feel like it! Today was more firm uneven sand roads and some rocky ascents (Alto-Atapuerco is impossible to take by unicycle, if anyone does it, please let me know!). The Cathedral in Burgos really is huge! Now some sleep in the refuge municipal.... read more

Europe » Spain » La Rioja » Logroño June 16th 2011

So, now I am in Logroño. I had some doubts yesterday when it was so hot. I didn't think I would make it this far today; essentially two and a half stages for the people who walk. It was nice weather, cloudy, and gravel roads. I could finally switch from my 150mm cranks to the 125mm ones, which made it much easier on flat ground. I started at 6.30 and was in Logroño by 13, so 50km took me 7 hours, lunch and rest included, maybe 4-5 hours of effective riding. The downhills weren't too dangerous today, and It seems I've learned to handle the other ones really well. Most of the time I road on fine gravel roads, mostly no slope at all, which made for fast and not so tough rides. When passing through ... read more

Europe » Spain » Navarre » Estella June 15th 2011

Finally here! Today has been really hot. I probably drank four liters of water before noon, which really was needed. It's also very easy to notice that one is in Spain now. This area is much dryer than the french side on these latitudes. The trees are often thin and squiggly, like they're also craving for water. It is very nice to finally arrive in the afternoon. I slept for a couple of hours when I arrived to this hostel run by the municipality. A little more than 40km today, from Cizur Menor, close to Pamplona, to Estella.... read more

Europe » Spain » Navarre » Estella June 15th 2011

At the moment in Lorca, not far from Estella. Yesterday was really nice, I made it 45 km without feeling too sore anywhere. I met more Swedes, more people from France and Germany, even Korea (again). Yesterday was mostly downhill, which made for quite nice relaxing rides. Today is more uphill, and as the paths are less covered by vegetation, it is much hotter. Will probably sleep in Estella this night.... read more
