The group tour has at last started, at around 6 o'clock we met up with our guide and fellow travellers for the first time and after a long introductory meeting we headed out for dinner. Our tour guide was called Hang, a Cambodian in his 20's and our group consisted of a mixture of old and young, couples and individuals, British, Australian, Kiwi, Canadian and Austrian, a realy nice mix of people, over food and drinks we got to know one another a little better and also get a feel for Cambodia... ...10 postcards, 1 bracelet, a photo with a kid with a python around his neck, an 18+ joke, a massage, these are just a few of the things that $1 buys you in Cambodia. Of the 15 million people that live here 50% are ... read more

A lack of internet and time means weve been a bit restricted when it has come to the blog, in fact we are over half way through our time in Cambodia. Now we have reached the beach we might have a little more time to catch up however, so here is where we left off last time.... ....Its official, Bangkok is mental, five days was more than enough to explore the warren of tightly packed avenues. After being quite adventurous in the first two days we took it a little easier in the last couple starting with a cooking lesson at a vegetarian restaurant run by an excentric local lady called Mai Kadeei. The lesson was run by her assistant, a small Thai women called Orn who guided us through 15 authentic dishes, taking it in ... read more

22 and a half hours later... we arrived! Epic is the most fitting word for our journey, 10 hours on the plane to Mumbai, 1 hour wait, 4 hours on the plane to Bangkok, 1 hour standing in a line at passport control (Mark had to do a lot of calming me down at this point! I was getting a bit cross!) And then we encountered Bangkok rush hour which was an experience in itself- one which admittedly I slept through- but Mark relayed all the details of the flags, military vehicles and best of all, the taxi driver clipping his toenails at one red light...lovely. So we arrived at our Bangkok hostel and were shown our room, basic but very nice. 2 mattresses on the floor, shared bathroom next door and a little balcony outside ... read more

The long, long wait is almost over! This moment seemed like a distant dream when 18 months ago Rach and I, sat in the Blackbull, pen and napkin in hand tipsily jotted down an unrealistic list of far flung destinations that we were to journey to by plane, train and automobile. After seemingly a lifetime of planning, re-planning and re-re planning we are now less than an hour away from embarking on our somewhat more realistic yet still ambitious adventure around the world, encompasing 10 countries on 4 continents meaning numerous new stamps in the passport! The bags are packed (minus hair straighteners and high heal shoes), the first part of the journey from Preston to Heathrow is complete and as we sit here watching the planes take off and land the nerves and excitment have ... read more
