Rose Robin

Hello, my name is Rose Robin.

Last year I traveled around the USA and I filmed a documentary about the road trip. I am pleased and surprised to have won two awards and the documentary is being released by indeiflix on the 18th of May. I made the money I needed to travel by performance painting and drawing landscapes.

Why do I mention this, except to boast, well, I would like other artists: painters musicians actors filmmakers ... what ever you might do, to think about doing the same thing... or if you already do please contact me and tell me your stories! it's a wonderful way to travel and see a side of the places and people you'd never see other wise, and practice your art in front of hundreds of people... put you videos or photos up on youtube or dailymotion and send me the link, I would like to start a blog or web page for traveling and performing artists!

I have made enough money to continue my travels. This year I'm back packing around Europe, I've been around England and Wales, I'm going through France now, next stop is Italy in June. I am filming for another documentary, and getting ready for two big art shows in London galleries.

I know how hard its to get into the art market, you have to use every opportunity to do so!
Here are two short videos to give you an idea:

last night I went to sleep on this beautiful island, ironically to the sound of NYC police sirens blaring from a TV set... Today I woke up to really loud insects in the trees around 6. 30. No one was up so I walked to town square at the top of the hill. The restaurant hotel "Le Gecko" where I'm staying is in the middle of the steep hill and you have to walk a good 10 mins to get to the top. I got some bread from the bakers and the lady behind the counter had heard who I was and asked if I would like to exhibit some paintings in the bakers... I said I would be coming back with posters and postcards of the drawings and paintings I do on the island and ... read more

My Broe Ben his boy-friend Dave and Daves mother Denise, Judith and Julia Daves sister and her daughter arrived to pick me up from the hostel. I piled my paintings and bags in to the two cars and we were off. They took me straight to an amazing restaurant called the chateau in a bay called Sormeou. You needed a reservation to entre the bay, as we drove pass the guarded gates and crested a hill, we had a fantastic view of a whinding road leading down into the bay, with clear waters. there were boats moared in the bay, a little harboar and a few shaks around it, and the little restaurant which was not a chateau but a pretty little house. We parked a went for a swim before lunch, the water was warm ... read more

Last night after the music got going, I went back to the hostel. I was greeted by Paulin at the bar who wanted me to met the director of the hostel Christope, They explained that they were looking for painters to do murals, and they would give me a free room and three meals a day... for as long as I needed to do the paintings, and maybe give lessons in drawing to make extra money... i said that after my tour of Italy I would come back and do the work... Christophe said that there were lodes of hostels he could talk to in France and Italy, and all over the world... I think this could be an interesting way of traveling in the future. Living life at destiny's whim is funny, as long as ... read more

I haven't had a chance to go on to internet in the last two days so let me fill you in on what's be going on. My first night in the hostal, having a good shower before going to bed and sleeping in a real bed, felt like I was sleeping deeply at the bottom of the sea. I woke at 7.30 and jumped out of my bunk-bed and realised my back was feeling great, I had a long cool shower and went for breakfast which is payed for in the price of the youth hostel. Every one is very nice here and says good morning with a smile, I found my self grinning at everyone they were all so pretty and well dress, Swiss blonds and geeky Americans, cute Koreans, and pompus British, what fun! ... read more

It's lest windy today but chilly none the less. I walk into Arles and went to get my paintings from Henry's home. When I got there I was greeted by Henry who had prepared an early lunch and asked if I would like to join him, the generosity and peaceful easy going way of his is very refreshing. We had stack and home made chips with wild thyme. I took apart my paintings and as I did Henry told me about his youth. As a child he worked with his dad making guns and traps for hunting. when he was 23 he married a gypsy stripper who danced all over Europe so he traveled with her. He was also a Bank robber for a while a got away with quite a lot but went to prison ... read more

The wind was to strong to go to the beach today, so I went to paint in Arles. I finished the painting of the Arena then went Henry's house to drop off one painting and pick up another canvas. Henry has given me the key to his home, people hardy ever lock their door here even though there is a big Gypsy culture and a lot of thieves. Henry said that if you leave your door open it's because you have nothing to steal, and people only want what is coveted. I then went to paint the town hall and Obelisk and roman church in the spot that I met Henry a few days ago. Today is the solstice the longest day of the year and the French have their festival of music which goes all ... read more

It was windy all night long, the tent was going back and forth, so I don't think I got much sleep. I walked to Arles because there are hardy any buses on Sundays. I was carrying two big long canvases which acted like sails in the wind. I got to the internet cafe and talked to my love then Henry called me and announced that he would be there shortly to take me site seeing. He met my mother and love through skype. We drove out into the Provence and he stopped the car every now and again to show me an Roman Aqueduct hidden in the olive trees, or to smell some wild herbs, lavender rosemary, or thyme. The views here are beautiful and although Henry kept saying the weather was terrible for the time ... read more

I've been out of contact for two days, but I'm safe and every things good, I forgot my computer in the last camp site in Nimes, and had to go back and get it today. Yesterday I was driven to Arles by William, the very sweet and very young cutie pie who was my neighbor at the camping Bastide. As soon as I got to Camping des Roseies just out side of Arles, I put up my tent and caught the first bus into town. Wow this place is beautiful. There's so much history here. The sky, the buildings, the views and the people are beautiful and and have so much character. I got to the center of Arles and walked up the street and turned left, and there before me was a square with an ... read more

It was a cool gray day but with all the promise of being quite sunny at any moment, I went and talked to my boy friend and mum for a while at the cafe. My mum said that 15 people were killed last night in flash floods on a camping not too far away. As I went into Nimes the sun came out and the clouds evaporated. I went to the contemporary art museum, Carré d'Art-Musée it was built by Sir Norman Foster the guy who built the gherkin in London, I didn’t find it to be a life changing experience, but there was one or two paintings which were interesting, I felt the collection was badly curate. The building is see-through which is cool, there’s a huge library down stairs as you walk up ... read more

It’s been Raining all day, I washed my clothes this morning but came back to get them 5 mins to later. Somebody had been through my clothes and taken everything but one pair of shorts and few socks… so I had to go buy more clothes wearing a towel and my shorts, which took most of the day. I thought as I was have bad luck I might have a better chance at catching a fish, I went down to the river bank and found a pot of worms waiting for me, I looking around and there was no one there, so I said thank you to the wind and started to fish with the worms. I had one big fish chase my hook to the edge of the river, and I felt one nibble but ... read more
